Knighthood Marching Song

From Vanguard frat to knighthood frat

To lofty mountain peaks
Our flag is carried flying high
From victory or defeat
And never heard it furled it yet
In spite of poeman’s might
We cheered our men unto the end
And cheered them as they fight.

(Repeat I)

Viva knighthood marching song

We sing to victory
From training days
To working years
High shall our purpose be
Viva knighthood is our cry
Our fame and glory too
We fight and win or fight and die
Knighthood, Knighthood Association.

III

(Pause … Instrumental)
(Repeat II)
WHO ARE THOU?

Sir, I am JOEL MELLINRES SERGIO, 18yrs old at that time when I joined as Cadet Officer Candidate
School (COCS), LCBA ROTC Unit, Calamba, Laguna. Sir

It was 27 March 1976, when I joined the COCS training at LCBA, ROTC Unit. Then, I together with my
CO-Trainees and some Cadet Officers was called for Summer Camp Training from 01 April 1976 up to 15 May
1976. After the one month and fifteen days (1mo & 15 days) rigid training at Headquarters, 2 nd Infantry
Division, Philippine Army, Camp General Mateo Capinpin, Tanay, Rizal we went back to LCBA ROTC Unit and
continue our COCS Training.

On the 22 May 1976, Fourteenth (14) of us (1) one female and (13) male completed the COCS
Training and recognized as member of the Corps of Cadet/Cadette Officer of LCBA ROTC Unit and also a
member of Knighthood Fraternity on that day. At that time our commandant is former then 1LT MAXIMINO G
BANTOGON PA from Camp Vicente Lim, Mayapa, Calamba City, Laguna. From there became a platoon
leader, executive officer, battalion staff officer, company commander and battalion commander of 2 nd BCT of
the ROTC Contingent. On 25 March 1979, I graduated as Advance ROTC Course at the same time with my
Bachelor of Science degree together with other (16) sixteen male and (1) female cadet/cadette officer. We are
seventeen (17) cadet officers graduated the Advance ROTC Course at LCBA ROTC Unit CLASS of 1979.

At the start of my career as an officer of Armed Forces of the Philippines, I took up Advance Summer
Camp Training 43/P2LT Course at 13RHDU, ARESCOM, Camp Capinpin, Tanay Rizal for a period of two
months from 01 April 1979 to 31 May 1979. After that I filed my commissionship as 2LT while waiting for my
Armed Forces of the Philippines Serial Number I was Enlisted in the Regular Force, Philippine Army in the
grade of Private. Then I was promoted to Private First Class, Corporal, up to Sergeant and assigned at 2 nd
Infantry Division. When I was a Private First Class my commission in the reserve force as 2LT was released
pursuant to General Orders Number 790 GHQ, AFP dated 19 December 1980 effective 13 December 1980.
From the grade of sergeant, I was called to Active duty as 2LT effective 16 October 1983 and my first
assignment to 2nd Infantry Battalion, 2nd Infantry Division, Philippine Army.

From there my career as an officer of the AFP was full grown with flying colors until I reached the rank
of full Colonel. On my 56 yrs of birthday, I was retired in the military service effective 29 October 2014 with
designation of Acting Army Adjutant in the Philippine Army and at the same time my Incorporation in the
Reserve Force Philippine Army.

On 22 June 2015, I reported to Headquarters, 4 th Regional Defense Community Group, Army

Reserved Command, Camp General, Macario Sakay, Los Banos Laguna to continue my Military Service as
Reservist Volunteer Officer. I was designated as Officer In Charge of the 1703RD READY RESERVE
INFANTRY BRIGADE Station at Camp Efigenio Navarro, Brgy. Suqui, Calapan City, Oriental Mindoro.

On 24 January 2018, I was designated as fulltime capacity of Brigade Commander, 1703 rd RRIBde.
I’m not expected my career will just end in the rank of full Colonel, on the 12 th day of January 2018, I was
promoted to the rank of AD INTERIM BRIGADIER GENERAL in the Reserve Force, Armed Forces of the
Philippines. This was confirmed my appointment committees at Congress of the Philippines and Senate of the
Philippines respectively with the approval of no less than the President of the Republic of the Philippines
effective 14 March 2018.

I, Owe a lot of my career to the Knighthood Association of the Laguna College of Business of Arts,
Incorporated because if I am not a graduate of Advance ROTC Course in this institution, I will not became a
one “STAR” General. My snappiest salute to all members, with golden dedication of COUNTRY, HONOR and
LOYALTY and I am proud/aimed up – high “ONE IN A MANY” GOD BLESS
BRIEF HISTORY
UP LOS BAŇOS ROTC UNIT
(WERE WE CAME FROM)

THE UP LOS BAŇOS ROTC UNIT IS PROUD TO BE ONE OF THE FIRST ROTC UNITS
ORGANIZED IN THE COUNTRY. IT HAS ITS HUMBLE BEGINNING 83 YEARS AGO WHEN MILITARY
DRILL, AS IT WAS THEN CALLED, WAS A REQUIREMENT FOR ALL ABLE-BODIED FILIPINO MALE
STUDENTS OF THE INSTITUTION CONDUCTED BY PC OFFICERS.

THE PATRIOTIC FERVOR GENERATED BY THE OUTBREAK OF WORLD WAR I IN 1914

HEAVILY INFLUENCED THE SHIFT OF TRAINING MANAGEMENT OF THE CORPS FROM THEN
PHILIPPINE CONSTABULARY TO THE NEWLY ORGANIZED PHILIPPINE NATIONAL GUARD.

IN 1921, A LAW WAS PASSED ESTABLISHING THE FORMAL ROTC PROGRAM. THE PROGRAM
OTHER THAN COVERING MILITARY DRILL, NOW TRANCENDED INTO A RESERVE OFFICER
DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM. A TWO (2) YEAR BASIC COURSE WAS PROVIDED FOLLOWED BY
ANOTHER TWO YEARS OF ADVANCE TRAINING TO PRODUCE RESERVE OFFICERS FOR THE US
ARMY. THE AMERICAN OFFICERS SERVED IN THE UP DMST. THE NEW COURSE CURRICULUM WAS
FORMALLY INSTUTIONALIZED IN 1922.

WITH THE PASSAGE OF COMMONWEALTH ACT NO 1 ON DECEMBER 21, 1935. THE ROTC
PROGRAM BECAME PART AND PARCEL OF THE PHILIPPINE NATIONAL DEFENSE PLAN. THE UP
ROTC WAS THEN PASSED FROM THE U.S. TRANSITION PERIOD SAW THE FIRST FILIPINO OFFICER
AS COMMANDANT OF CADETS IN THE PERSON OF CAPTAIN FIDEL U SEGUNDO, A WEST POINT
GRADUATE, FROM THEN ON, FILIPINO OFFICERS WERE DESIGNATED AS COMMANDANTS.

THE UP DMST CLOSED OPERATIONS ON DECEMBER 25, 1941 AND REOPENED IN AUGUST
1946.

ON MAY 01, 1978, THE JURISDICTION, SUPERVISION AND CONTROL OF UPLB ROTC WAS
TRANSFERRED FROM THE PHILIPPINE ARMY TO THE METROPOLITAN CITIZEN MILITARY TRAINING
COMMAND (MCMTC). A YEAR LATER, CONTROL WAS REVERTED BACK TO THE FORMER.

IN JUNE 01, 1982, UPLB CMT UNIT WAS AGAIN REASSIGNED TO MCMTC. AFTER THE
FEBRUARY REVOLUTION, THE UNIT WAS ABSORBED BY THE 4 TH REGIONAL COMMUNITY DEFENSE
UNIT, 2ND INFANTRY DIVISION OF THE PHILIPPINE ARMY ON MARCH 14, 1986. ON OCTOBER 3, 1991,
LAGUNA COMMUNITY DEFENSE CENTER (LCDC) GAINED THE OPERATIONAL CONTROL OF THE
UPLB CMT UNIT FROM HQS. 4RCDU.

FINALLY, ON 01 JULY 1992, UPLB ROTC WAS ABSORBED BY THE NEWLY ACTIVATED
RESERVE COMMAND (RESCOM) PHILIPPINE ARMY AND HAS REMAINED IN ITS DESIGNATION UP TO
THE PRESENT.

KNIGHTHOOD SEAL
When the Laguna Institute ROTC Unit was activated on 16 March 1969, the Knighthood Seal
was adopted and used as the official unit seal. It is pinned by the cadet/cadette officers on their
headgear and /or collar of uniform for distinction, identify and unit pride. The colors, symbols and
terms inscribed in it have meanings as expressed below:

KNIGHT

Symbolizes strength of character, humility, leadership, chivalry and service. Like a cadet
plebe, a knight goes through a process of rigid tests from being a page to a squire when his heart and
soul are many times tested for purity, perseverance and vision before he qualifies for the most trying
challenge of Knighthood.

SHIELD

A Knight carries a shield to protect not his body, but his soul and the truth, for purity of true
and noble cause can triumph over seemingly insurmountable difficulties. As an association, the shield
represents the unity and strong personal commitment of every member to protect it from falling apart.

RED, WHITE AND BLUE STRIPES

RED – for moral courage to do what is right and just; WHITE for purity of purpose and reason
for existence under the divine guidance of the Almighty God; and BLUE for nobility of mind and spirit.

GOLD

GOLD – represents hope, prosperity and wealth.

COUNTRY, HONOR AND LOYALTY

Love of Country is far greater than life itself. Many of our brethrens, who have gone ahead of
us, have sacrificed their lives for the glory of our dear Motherland; a Knight is upright and lived an
honorable life with dignity and integrity which is beyond reproach; and Loyalty for esprit de corps and
fidelity to the duly constituted authority, the association and the alma mater.

SWORD

Symbolizes legal authority which commands respect and obedience.

RED AND BLUE TASSLES

RED – signifies the blood shed by the fallen knight for a worthy cause and BLUE – for love for
peace and tranquility.

LCBA SEALS

Official seal of dearly beloved Alma Mater.

“ONE IN A MANY”

The motto of the association which means that “there are many choices but only one is the
best”.

The date Knighthood Fraternity was founded.

The KNIGHTHOOD in Restrospect
BY JORGE L MANAOG ‘70

During the 60’s, ROTC training of cadets of the Laguna Institute (LI) was cross-enrolled to UP ROTC
Unit Los Banos. Under their graduation from the advance course, they were honed as active members of the
Vanguard Fraternity. Upon their graduation from the advance course , they were inducted into the Vanguards,
Incorporated – an alumni association, in UP Diliman along with the graduates from other UP campuses. From
1958 to 1969, LI cadets finished the advance course in Los Banos.

When the Laguna Institute ROTC Unit (LIRU) was activated on 16 March 1969 pursuant to General
Orders Numbers 375, General Headquarters, Armed Forces of the Philippines dated 13 June 1969, it
because separate and independent from UPLB and was placed directly under the 105 th Home Defense Affairs
Center, 2nd Home Defense Affairs Unit, 2nd Infantry Brigade (Separate), Philippine Army with COL ROMAN P
GUICO (GSC) PA as a Commandant and TSG Pedro L Luna PA as Tactical Non Commissioned Officer. In
1980, LIRU was renamed as the Laguna College of Business and Arts (LCBA) ROTC Unit when LI was
upgraded into college.

From its humble beginning, the Corps of Cadets, LIRU was organized with only seven (7) first class
and two (2) second class men, who ably assisted TSg Luna during the initial year. Cadet Jorge L Manaog
served as the Corps Commander. When he finished the Advance course during the first term, Cadet Alfredo C
Alinsunurin took over serving only the remainder of the year. It was during their terms when the Knighthood
Fraternity came into being following the same purpose and objective as that of the Vanguards. Since then,
many have tried to join but failed. Only those with firm determination and strong character were able to survive
the batteries of test, both mental and physical. One significant change in the membership structure was the
inclusion of cadettes in the once male fraternity.

In the intervening years following the graduation of Class ’70, a series of informal meeting of Alumni
were held at different venues and dates in order to form an association. At the forefront of the consolidation
process were then 1LT ALFREDO C ALINSUNURIN PC, 2LT BONIFACIO Y DE JESUS PA and TSg Roberto
Navarro PA. When a semblance of an association was attained, Brod Bon was elected as Commander, Little
headway was achieved, however, as the group’s only activity was to support the graduation of the ROTC
advance class. Majority of the alumni had shied away from joining learning that even basic graduates, who
were not former members of the fraternity, were admitted as full members. Since then, no further election was
held, so the incumbent unofficially functioned in a carry over capacity for years.

Until in the middle of 1993, Jorge L Manaog ’70 initiated a series of meetings which served as a
prelude to the holding of a Grand Alumni Homecoming on 26 March 1994 at Joanne’s II, Miramonte Village,
Pansol, Calamba, Laguna. Highlights of the occasion were the ratification of the Articles of Incorporation and
By-Laws; the election pf the Board of Directors; and the Induction of Class 1994. Since then, homecoming
became an annual event. In order to maintain the initial gains, the Board meet every month while the general
membership had it’s own/once a quarter. Twice, the association conducted Christmas Raffle draws to support
its plans and programs. But more significant is the registration of the association with Securities and Exchange
Commission (SEC) on 15 Oct 1997 and the participation for the first time of parading contigent to the 1997
Rizal’s Day celebration.

Every year or twice a year change of commander where took place at Laguna College of Business
and Arts. Board meets every month or as the commander may called for. Renewal registration of the
Association with Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) as per SEC Registration No. CN201602103
dated ____________. It was renamed from KNIGHTHOOD ALUMNI ASSOCIATION, INC. TO KNIGHTHOOD
ASSOCIATION OF Laguna College of Business and arts,Inc.

As of this date, the association has a total number of TWO HUNDRED SEVENTY (270) members
including the honorary. Yearly the associations conducted Christmas Party, other important activities such as
parading contingent during Rizal’s Birth Anniversary, tree planting and Medical/Dental Mission.

It is the commander responsibilities once elected to make his plans and programs for the calendar
year. Members should always remember abide and attend all meetings/activities of the association.

Always bear on us Country, Honor, and Loyalty.
