Food [puckEXT. A SMALL TOWN IN THE PHILIPPINES- DAY
filled with old trucks, and cars covered with dust
drawings. A little boy on one window, and a food trick onl ef
other. i}
There's a small church, beside it is the Philippine Flag.
Below are three shirtless old men reading a newspaper.
On the opposite side of the church are kids on the basketball
court, many of them wearing over-sized basketball jerseys and
shorts. The hoops are falling apart.
Now we see a small house with a garage right beside it. A
signage “Jorge's Car Repair Shop” in Bold Purple is posted by
the garage. Inside the shop, under one of the cars, repairing
it, is JORGE. A chubby 11 year old Filipino boy wearing a
dirty white tank top and cargo shorts. His hands are filled
with oil marks and scratches.
Jorge pulls out a pipe from the bottom of the car and makes a
loud clang. Oil squirts out onto his face!
Sitting down by the car, knitting is PAPA, a 40 year old man.
PAPA
Jorge, ano ba?!
(Jorge, what’s with you?!)
Jorge gets out of the bottom of the car.
JORGE
At least ako nagtatrabaho!
(At least I'm working’
He drops the pipe and sticks his tongue out at Papa.
He goes inside the house.
INT. JORGE’S HOUSE - CONTINUOUS
Jorge slams the door to his room, crossing his arms and
furrowing his eyebrows.
He gets a pamphlet from his table drawer. It says “PHILIPPI
CULINARY SCHOOL: BEST IN THE WORLD!” Behind the pamphlet is
drawing of multiple RED food trucks in different parts of thé
world, but there's one giant truck in the middle of it all.
It's labeled "Sabella" on the big truck, and the top title
reads “JORGE’S GREATEST FILIPINO FOOD TRUCK”.He kisses the pamphlet.
JORGE
Konti nalang, Sabella.
(Just a bit more, Sabella.)
The ground starts to tremble from the loud footstep:
approaching. “
MAMA, a 40 year old woman, barges in Jorge’s room.
MAMA
Walang hiya ka, bata ka!
(You shameless kid!)
Jorge drops his jaw and furrows his eyebrows.
JORGE
Walang hiya ka!
(You're shameless!)
Mama drops her jaw as well and storms out of the room.
MAMA
Junjun! Loko anak mo!
(Junjun! Your son is crazy!)
Jorge stares at the door and gulps.
Immediately he goes under his bed and fetches a box. It says
“pangarap Ko (My dreams)” drawn with glitter.
He opens it and grabs a thick folder with cash. He counts it,
but he hears someone coming up the stairs!
PAPA
Hoy. Ano ba naman to?
(Hey.. what is happening?)
In a hurry, Jorge grabs a thick backpack and another bigger
pink folder beside the box.
He opens his window, goes out, and walks down the roof.
EXT. TOWN STREET - A WHILE AFTER
Jorge walks on the side of the town street, holding the big
pink folder and the culinary school pamphlet.
He looks at the pink folder, it says “MENUDO NI JORGE
(Jorge's Stew)” drawn with glitters as well. He gets the
recipe out, and puts it beside the pamphlet. He looks to his left and there stood an old small building
with “PHILIPPINE CULINARY SCHOOL” engraved on the top of the
door.
There are no people surrounding the building. The cracks of
the building are huge, the paint is faded and the trees
surrounding the campus are limping down, close to dead.
Jorge approaches the gate where a guard sits asleep.
He walks in.
INT. INSIDE THE SCHOOL - CONTINUOUS
Jorge opens the door, it makes a loud, creaky sound.
He stares at the door as it closes slowly, and walks in
making his orange crocs squeak.
The building is basically empty. The floors and walls are
shiny, but there are many cracks on the walls. The shelf of
books’ is almost destroyed with some flies surrounding it.
In the corner near the door, sitting asleep, is an old woman
holding an empanada.
There’s a reception table in the middle of the hall.
Jorge approaches the table.
THE RECEPTIONIST, a skinny young man in his 20s, wearing a
dirty sando, chews gum and stares at his mobile device. He's
wearing earphones but you could hear the loud video game
sounds from his phone.
Jorge drops the pamphlet and the recipe card on the reception
table.
JORGE
Pre, enroll ako. Enroll mo'ko.
(Dude, I'm enrolling. Enroll me.)
The receptionist, without laying an eye on Jorge, removes one
earphone and hands out a really long paper with a title 4
“REQUIREMENTS” on the top.
Jorge gets the paper, the end of the paper reaches the floor.
He stares at it, gulps, then furrows his eyebrows.
JORGE (CONT'D)
/ Enroll mo ako, sabi eh!
(I said enroll me!)The receptionist finally looks at Jorge. He stands up slowly,
and stares Jorge down.
Jorge makes an angry face and clenches his fists.
RECEPTIONIST
Pre. Bumalik ka kapag eighteen ka
na.
(Dude, come back when you're
eighteen.)
EXT. TOWN STREET - A MOMENT AFTER
Jorge is sitting outside the campus, he’s holding the recipe
and the pamphlet.
He stares at the drawing at the back of the pamphlet as tears
slowly come out of his eyes.
He crumples the drawing, stands up, and walks away.
EXT. HOUSE PORCH - NIGHT
Jorge approaches his house, Papa is outside shirtless,
staring into blank space.
PAPA
Ano balita?
(What's the news?)
Jorge stares down and goes into the house.
INT. INSIDE THE HOUSE - CONTINUOUS
Mama is on the couch reading the newspaper, there’s two
bottles of beer on the table.
Jorge goes in front of her, still with his head down.
JORGE
Pasensya na, po.
(Forgive me, mother.)
it with her fingers and rubs his arms.
MAMA
Hay nako anak..
Sige, Mag-hain ka na.
(oh, my child.
Go Set the table for dinner.)Cnn ae

Jorge is in the kitchen, in front of the stove. There’s red
stew in the pan bowl and he's mixing it with a wooden S
spatula. \
He puts the spatula out of the bowl, and looks out the window
where a van with a set up eatery is parked by the basketball
court. The kids around the van are energized running, and the
adults are seen chatting and laughing while holding sticks of
barbecue, isaw, hot dogs, and bowls filled with stew.
Jorge continues to stare out.
The spatula catches on fire.
He stares at the spatula for a few seconds, without
panicking, then puts the fire out with his kitchen cloth.
INT. DINING TABLE - CONTINUOUS
Jorge and his parents sit on the dining table. They’re
holding each other's hands while their heads are bowed down. SG)
JORGE
Panginoon... Pahingi naman po ng
food truck?
(Lord. Could I please have a food
truck?)
Mama and Papa open their eyes and stare at each other. They
look at the stew, which has an unusual shade of red, potatoes
with burnt skin, and soggy leaves.
Jorge opens his eyes, and scoops some stew into his bowl.
He eats it.
Papa stares at the stew, then stares at Mama. He takes a deep
breath in, then slowly scoops stew into his and Mama’s bowl.
They slowly lift their spoonful of stew into their mouth.
They cough.
Jorge looks at them, but they turn away to hide their face:
He looks at his bowl, and takes a spoonful of the stew.
Mama and Papa stare at the spoon as Jorge brings it to hij
mouth. . .
Jorge moves the spoon slowly...He tastes it. Makes a big swallow.
He raises one of his eyebrows and...
Makes a slight approval nod.
Jorge smiles.
Mama and Papa stare at each other as Jorge continues to eat
the stew faster and faster.
EXT. OUTSIDE THE HOUSE - DAY
There are kids playing again on the basketball court. The
same old men are shirtless outside the church.
Papa is sitting outside the house knitting again. Mama goes
out and breathes in the fresh air with a delicate smile.
Aman in his 50's approaches the porch.
MAN
Bukas ba kayo?
(Are you open?)
MAMA
00, si Jorge nasa garahe.
(Yes, Jorge is inside the garage.)
The man approaches the garage.
Mama stretches her arms and continues to look around, still
smiling.
A few moments later...
The man comes back.
MAN
Wala naman pong tao sa loob.
(There's no one inside.)
Mama freezes, her face suddenly changes. She rushes inside
the house.
Papa stops knitting. Sighs and knits again.
INT. JORGE'S ROOM - CONTINUOUS
Mama runs to Jorge's room. His bed isn’t fixed [and the window
is open. =
Mama sighs.MAMA
ay, dios mio.
(Oh God.)
INT. A BUS - DAY
Jorge happily sits in the bus. He has his huge backpack
beside him. There’s a giant patch on it that reads “THE BEST.
COOK!”
EXT. BUS STOP - CONTINUOUS
Jorge gets down on the bus stop and walks across the street
where there’s a car junk shop.
EXT. JUNK SHOP - CONTINUOUS
Jorge goes to the counter where a WOMAN in her mid 20's
stands. Jorge drops the folder of cash.
JORGE
Nagbebenta kayo ng food truck?
Pula sana. ‘
(Do you sell food trucks?
A red one I hope.)
The woman stares at Jorge, then counts the money. She scans
through them, spreading them around as she chews her gum with
a poker face.
She stares at Jorge again and looks at the back, where we see
an old red food truck!
WOMAN
Sandali lang.
(Wait here.)
Jorge puts on a big smile as the woman walks to the back. He
can’t get his eyes off the truck. He giggles.
Moments later...
‘The woman comes back. She puts on the table a bunch of red
toy cars.
WOMAN (CONT'D)
Toyota o Honda?
Jorge looks at the toy cars and exhales. He extends his hands
over the cash and slowly drags them back in the folder and
puts it in his bag.He walks away but looks back at the truck, it shines as he
stares longer.
He continues to walk away and goes toward the bus stop.
EXT. BUS STOP - CONTINUOUS
Jorge awaits for a bus. As one approaches from afar, he hits
his left pocket in search of his money. The left one makes no
noise. He tries the right, but still no noise.|He hits all of
his pockets, panicking.
One of his pockets make a sound. He calms down and ari
what's in it.
It's a crumpled paper.
He opens it.
It's the drawing of the food trucks and the giant Sabella.
JORGE
Sabella...
He stares at the paper, then looks back at the food truck
where the junk shop is. The bus stops and covers the view.
He stares at the drawing again.
EXT. JUNK SHOP - MOMENTS LATER
The woman in the counter puts on earphones, she blasts “Shut
up and drive” by Rihanna.
She closes her eyes and lays back.
THEN... at her back we see Jorge run to the truck!
He gets in and shuts the door!
But he goes back out again and runs towards the key shelf
where there’s only one key.
He grabs it and runs back to the truck, turns it on, and
drives away!
The woman still doesn’t hear anything until THREE MEN start
shouting, chasing the truck from the garage.EXT. THE TOWN STREETS - CONTINUOUS
Jorge is inside the truck, nervous, constantly staring back.
He’s driving at 60mph, and shifting gears like a pro!
A few meters away, he spots the Philippine Culinary School.
The Receptionist stands by the bus stop, right in front of
the school.
Jorge, while driving, puts the window down and sticks his
tongue out.
The receptionist’s mouth drops.
Jorge laughs again, and cheers himself on.
EXT. HOUSE PORCH - NIGHT
There's a police car right in front of the house, the siren
lights are on. Behind the police car is the food truck.
Jorge is watching from his room window as a policeman talks
to his parents.
‘The woman and the three men from the junk shop are beside the
policeman.
Mama slowly looks to Jorge, disappointed. She looks down and
continues to talk to the police.
Papa hands the policeman and one of the junk shop men some
cash. m
PAPA A
(We're very sorry)
O 0
The policeman and the junk shop people don't answer Papa.
Instead, they stare at Jorge as they walk away.
INT, THE LIVING ROOM - CONTINUOUS
Jorge goes down the stairs. His Papa is sitting on the couch,
rubbing his head as if he has a headache.
Mama is standing up drinking a cold bottle of beer, she chugs
it.
Jorge gulps.10.
Mama puts the beer off her mouth and wipes it with her arm
unattractively.
MAMA
Ano trip mo?
(What's your deal?)
Jorge looks at Papa, whose eyes are closed. He looks at Mama
again.
He's shivering.
JORGE
Po?
(I'm sorry?)
Mama looks at Jorge, then looks at Papa. She exhales.
Jorge looks confused. He stares at Papa again but he’s
avoiding eye contact.
Mama gets Jorge’s attention.
MAMA
Binili namin.
(We bought it.)
Jorge smiles. But Papa and Mama aren’t smiling at all.
JORGE
Binili niyo po?!?
(You bought it?!?
Mama gets disgusted by his smile.
MAMA.
Excited? Tanga! Ano, ibibigay namin
sayo agad agad?
(Excited? Idiot! What do you think,
we'll give it to you right away?!)
Jorge loses his smile.
Mama stares him down. She motions him to sit down.
Jorge shakes again, and slowly goes down on the floor while
staring at Mama.
She hands him over thick layers of paper.
MAMA (CONT'D)
Kung atat na atat kang magka-food
truck, ayan. Pirmahan mo.
(MORE)a.
MAMA (CONT'D)
(So, if you're really desperate to
have your food truck, here. Sign
it.)
Jorge gets the thick layers of paper. The title reads “Mama
and Papa’s Greatest Contract” in Times New Roman. Jorge looks
confused. He scans through the pages where there’s
handwritten “Rules and Regulations”.
MAMA (CONT'D)
Apat na araw, doble na mga utos ko
sayo. Magtatrabaho ka sa garahe,
kahit sawang-sawa ka na!
(Four days a week, doubled chores,
and you will continue working in
the garage, whether you like it or
not.)
Jorge stares at both of them. His mouth is open, almost about
to cry.
He stares at the contract longer.
He breaks down.
His tears start to pile up on his hand.
Mama rolls her eyes and walks out of the living room. Papa
stands up slowly and follows her.
Jorge continues to cry as he scans through the contract once
again.
We see a glimpse of what's on it: "6 Hours on weekends 1/2
Minimum Wage", "General House Cleaning Once A Week", "Food
Truck Upon 10 Years Completion”
Finally, he reaches the last page. His name is laid out on
the bottom right. He slowly gets the pen and puts it on the
paper, about to sign.
He sobs.
The ball of the pen touches the paper, slightly. But Jorge
sobs harder, and looks at his bag on the couch. It's slightly
opened, and we can see Sabella's windshield. An added drawing
of Jorge is inside driving it with a huge smile, and a chef's
hat.
He stops sobbing, but little tears are still falling.2
INT. MAMA AND PAPA'S BEDROOM - MOMENTS LATER
Mama in her sleeping clothes, combs her hair in front of the
dresser. There's a bottle of beer beside her. Papa is sitting
on the bed, reading the newspaper.
PAPA
Baka naman masyadong harsh yung
ginawa natin?
(Maybe what we did was too harsh?)
MAMA
Bahala siya.
(Let him be.
)
A shadow figure outside of the door drops something heavy in
front of the door. Mama and Papa stare at the bottom shadow,
then continue back to what they were doing.
Mama giggles.
MAMA (CONT'D)
Yan ata yung kontrata.
(That's probably the contract.)
Moments later... =

compartment and grabs his chef's hat. He puts it on, and his
smile gets bigger.
He turns on the radio, “I love my truck” by Glen Campbell
plays. He sings along as he continues to drive.
