Koala Furniture Business Case

Koala Furniture is an Australian company that sells sofas and beds locally, but as nowadays
people tend to buy everything online, they have decided to create a website, and for that purpose,
they hired a developer. Their instructions for the website development were; the website should
be developed in APS.NET 4.5.1 and C#. In this website user could log in, navigate on the pages
(Home, Sofa and Bed, About, Contact and Register) and an Administrator could have the role to
manage all the details on the website, for instance update, insert and delete.
Therefore, the website development involves a few steps, firstly the macro design should be
developed, this is what will be used throughout the website, and it is called master page, a few
other pages ware necessary to hold the content and a database to store all the information from
users and furniture.
The project is not as simple as it looks; it can take a few days to a month to be constructed.
Behind most of the pages, there are coding supporting the actions the user takes while navigating
and different languages are used for the development purpose, c#, JavaScript, Asp.net, Html,
CSS etc. The pages in this website are all linked by using a web.sitemap which is also hand-
coded.
The specifications given to the developer include the step by step of the development scenario.
Also, all the content to be displayed on the website is given. Some functionalities were not
implemented as the developer could not build them, and they are – keep the user logged in(the
user can log in, but when the page is changed the log disappears, and a new login needs to be
done), popup a larger image of a product(there is a pop up system, but instead of only one
product, all of them appear in the popup) and the filter system(all the filters work, but they could
be better developed.
Nevertheless, the website was developed, and it is working as it should, some of the
functionalities could have been better developed, but they were not clear enough, and for some,
the developer was not prepared to deal with them.
The website is shown below, as well as its functionalities explained.
Marketing the Website

Nowadays, most of the marketing is done via internet, social media and merchandise on videos.
Different from a couple of years ago when the television had the majority audience, social media
took its place and replaced it. Therefore, to have a successful business where people can easily
find and contact, it is necessary to use these ways of communication.
The first efficient method to market a company is to create a page on social media and start to
share the details, sales and any marketing material necessary to attract people. In this case, the
Koala Shop could use these profiles for marketing their new website, also creating a link
between the website and the social media in use. A space exclusive to other companies
marketing could be helpful, material providers could use it, and in exchange, they could market
Koala Shop on their website too. Also, sending the current list of customers an email inviting
them to visit their new website.
Marketing is all about creativity and expertise in what is being sold or offered, and Koala
Furniture show in their website that they trust in their products, and if the customer is not happy,
they can have their money back in 30 days, as well as they, give a three years warranty.
Therefore, it is a company that trust in its products, and it could be used during the marketing
strategy.
A second alternative to social media would be to create outdoors and banners that surround the
company to show people their newly developed website. Is still being used by many companies,
and it seems to work for most of them, as people spend a lot of their time on a traffic jam or
public transports, showing your company on the streets can help to spread it.
In conclusion, marketing a company needs a strategy; it cannot be just thrown anywhere at any
time. Therefore, after the conclusion of the website, Koala Furniture can use its social media to
start spread it, as well as their client list. Afterwards, new investment in outdoor marketing could
be handful. Marketing is very important to the company, and as soon as people start to use and
recognise the brand it becomes easier.
Website Functionalities
The home page is where everyone is linked first. In here, users and administrator can log in.

If a user logs in a message saying hello and the customer name will be shown.

If a user is not registered, a new message will show up.

For the administrator of the webpage, a different system was implemented. To log in and visit
the edition page, the admin needs to input a username and password + tick the admin box under
the login button; otherwise the website will take it as a normal customer.

Therefore, the Management page will show up.
In here, the administrator can manage all the content of the page, as well as the users.
The Bedroom’s page will show all their products as well as a filter where the user can select the
type of material they want as well as the size.
The Sofa’s page works similarly to the bedroom; however, the filter works by price and the
client can click on one of the sofas to see it bigger.
The Registration Page is where a new user will create a login to the website. It has some security,
and all the fields are mandatory, in case it is not filed, or incorrect an error will show up.
