IN THE NEWS
Fund raising is in vogue

Children’s Hospice. It featured local businesses including Watson Wynne Hairdressing, the
Fabulous You company and Dettagli menswear.

Sequel success for Jack

Sun Sharer, which went to number one in the romance charts last year. The sequel is called
A Path Too Long and profits will go towards setting up a children’s charity called CITE.

Iron Age broadband

A special historical experiment took place last month when communication was attempted
between ten ancient Hillforts.
The experiment involved local people close to ten Hillforts on the Sandstone Ridge, the
Clwydian Range, Halkyn Mountain and the Wirral, trying to communicate between the
Hillforts using torch light.
Flares were launched from the Hillforts followed by torch light at Maiden Castle, Beeston
Castle, Kelsborrow, Helsby, Burton Point, Moel y Gaer Rhosesmor, Penycloddiau, Moel
Arthur, Moel Fenlli and Caer Drewyn.
Iron Age settlements can be found on many of the summits of the Sandstone Ridge,
Clwydian Range and surrounding hills, dating back around 2,500 years. Most of the Hillforts
across the surrounding landscape can be seen from each other. The experiment is aiming to
see if the glowing fires could have been
seen across the hills and acted as a
communication or warning system.
Volunteers were invited to help with this
mass experiment by manning each of the
ten hilltops and signalling with torches in
an attempt to make contact across the
landscape.
Said, Councillor Herbert Manley,
Executive Member for Prosperity: “This is
such an exciting and visual experiment,
possibly the last time these Hillforts were
connected in such a way was over 2,000
years ago.”

Winter Gritting
At the meeting at the end of November,
the Parish Council were pleased to

ice and says
“There’s no law stopping you from
clearing snow and ice on the pavement
outside your home or from public
spaces. It’s unlikely you’ll be sued or
held legally responsible for any injuries on the path if you have cleared it carefully. Follow
the snow code when clearing snow and ice safely.”
More details are on www.direct.gov.uk/en/N11/Newsroom/DG_191868.

CRIME UPDATE
Tattenhall
PC Lowe and PC Owens say they have received
many reports of people acting suspiciously
around houses and roads and even trespassing onto private property. When challenged, the
individuals provide unacceptable reasons for their presence or beat a hasty retreat. Looking
for scrap metal, seeking gardening or tree clearing work, driveway repair etc. are the usual
excuses. Often, they are seeking ‘easy pickings’ and the current high prices for scrap metals is
a strong incentive for their actions.

Tarporley
Throughout November and December there have been a few complaints regarding anti social
behaviour in Tarporley. Police Community Support Officer Emily Benson and PC Gigg will
concentrate on this over the new year.
Over the coming months it is planned to run some traffic enforcement campaigns throughout
the area.

If you have any questions or see me on patrol please feel free to stop and chat
with your PCSO or PC Ged Gigg at Dragon Hall Police Station Whitchurch Road

TARPORLEY HIGH SCHOOL & Si

Queen of puddings!
For the second year running Tarporley Food Technology Department
entered students in the Spring Board Future Chef Competition.
The group consisted of four year eleven pupils Daniel Roberts,
Matt Kidd, Peter Mulchay, Alastair Jones and two year ten pupils
Alex Wild Jones and Alice Walsh.
There was a heat held in School which was extremely
competitive and the menus were of an excellent standard.
Judging the competition were Mr Carl Williams the school’s
canteen manager and Mr Adam Senior from the Old Hall
Hotel Frodsham.
The students were watched and questioned while making
their chosen dishes, and then the judges went off to decide
on the winner.
The school heat winner was Alice Walsh beating all the
boys with her Prawn and Ginger Cakes, Coriander Rice with a
sweet chilli dip.
Alice then went on to the local finals in Chester where she
achieved a very close second with her Zigeuner Schnitzel with
cous cous and green beans followed by melt in the middle
chocolate puddings with cream. It was said her puddings were
the pudding of the day.

health & beauty with Angela Bartlett

Q. I like to have my eyebrows waxed as it takes out all the

small hairs that tweezing leaves behind, but my skin has
become very sensitive to the heat of the wax. Can you
suggest an alternative?
A. Waxing is a very effective method for shaping the
brows, however the heat of the wax and the fact that the
wax adheres to the skin as well as the hair can be too
much for some people’s skin in the sensitive eye area. A
good alternative to waxing is threading, as it thoroughly
removes all the small hairs and is gentle on the skin. It
can take slightly longer than waxing, which
is reflected in the price of the treatment, but
the results are great with excellent eyebrow
definition. Many of my clients are now coming to
us for threading!

Q. I have tiny white hard lumps under my skin on

my upper cheeks. Can you tell me what they are
and how I can get them removed?
A. These little lumps are called ‘milia’ and
contain keratin, which is the same protein Angela Bartlett has over 26 years of
found in hair and nails. Why they occur, no one experience in the beauty and holistic

The December meeting was attended by 20 members in spite of
the inclement weather After discussion on future events there was
a talk by Chris Smith entitled ‘Cheshire cheese from Whitchurch’.
With the aid of videos including an old Pathe newsreel, we learnt
how Cheshire cheese was made in the past, from the beginning
of the nineteenth century until the present day. Chris brought two
examples from different cheesemakers for us to taste and compare
with those found at supermarkets .Everyone is looking forward
to the Christmas Party which will be held on December 10th where members and their
guests will be given mulled wine followed by a 2 course dinner. Further celebrations will
be held in the New Year. Meanwhile the Book Club and Walking Group continue to hold
regular meetings. New members are always welcome at the Peckforton Village Rooms with
meetings on the first Wednesday of the month starting at 7.30 pm. As usual, though, there
will be no meeting in January but on February 2nd the talk is entitled Hippotherapy by Ann
Mayfield. Hippotherapy is a form of physical, occupational and speech therapy in which a
therapist uses the characteristic movements of a horse to provide carefully graded motor
and sensory input.
