Gritting number
Richard, from Tarporley Health Store,
is urging people to call the Cheshire West
Highways Dept on 0300 123 7036 to report
iced up pavements that have not been
gritted. He is making the plea after a woman
fell and broke her leg on the pavement.

Winter Gritting
At the meeting at the end of November,
the Parish Council were pleased to
recruit and train 15 volunteers willing to
grit the pavements and some roadways
near where they live. Each volunteer
was given a supply of salt and some
basic equipment, purchased by the
Parish Council.
The government has now issued
guidance on the clearance of snow and
ice and says
“There’s no law stopping you from
clearing snow and ice on the pavement
outside your home or from public
spaces. It’s unlikely you’ll be sued or
held legally responsible for any injuries on the path if you have cleared it carefully. Follow
the snow code when clearing snow and ice safely.”
More details are on www.direct.gov.uk/en/N11/Newsroom/DG_191868.
If you would like to become a volunteer, please contact our Parish Clerk on Tel 01829

Queen of puddings!
For the second year running Tarporley Food Technology Department
entered students in the Spring Board Future Chef Competition.
The group consisted of four year eleven pupils Daniel Roberts,
Matt Kidd, Peter Mulchay, Alastair Jones and two year ten pupils
Alex Wild Jones and Alice Walsh.
There was a heat held in School which was extremely
competitive and the menus were of an excellent standard.
Judging the competition were Mr Carl Williams the school’s
canteen manager and Mr Adam Senior from the Old Hall
Hotel Frodsham.
The students were watched and questioned while making
their chosen dishes, and then the judges went off to decide
on the winner.
The school heat winner was Alice Walsh beating all the
boys with her Prawn and Ginger Cakes, Coriander Rice with a
sweet chilli dip.
Alice then went on to the local finals in Chester where she
achieved a very close second with her Zigeuner Schnitzel with
cous cous and green beans followed by melt in the middle
chocolate puddings with cream. It was said her puddings were
the pudding of the day.
Tarporley High School and Sixth Form College once again presented a great musical
show, Oliver! last month
The show has gone down a storm, playing to full houses and great reviews. The
director, Miss E Roberts said “I am delighted with the commitment and standard of
performance shown by the students, musicians, production team and technical crew.
They have worked exceptionally hard over a relatively short period of time to bring the
story alive”. Photograph shows the whole cast.
Burns night
Tarporley Scouts are holding a Burns Night/Celidh on
Saturday 22rd January from 7pm-midnight to raise
funds for the purchase of a new minibus for the Group.
The evening of Scottish Dancing, which includes
supper will be held at Tarporley Community Centre.
Tables for up to 12 people can be booked. For further
information, or to purchase tickets, please contact Liza Roberts on 01829 730373 or email

new name for family group
A GROUP who give support to struggling parents in the Tarporley
and Tattenhall area has merged with a similar group in Chester.
At the Annual General Meeting in November, Home-Start Vale
with the Chester and Ellesmere Port
Royal officially merged
steering committee and changed its name to Home-Start West
Cheshire.
Home-Start West Cheshire aims to give support to families who
may be struggling to cope with a variety of challenges, including
post natal illness, isolation, disability, the demands of parenting young children and multiple
births: helping to prevent these difficulties from escalating into a crisis.
They do this using parent volunteers who offer support, practical help and friendship to
families in their own homes for a few hours a week. Volunteers are recruited, trained and
supported in this role by paid staff. If you are interested in becoming a Family Support
