IDB Cultural Center: Call For Proposals


The Cultural Center of the Inter-American Development Bank is launching an open call-for-proposals to obtain grants for small scale
cultural development projects.

Applications must be submitted before January 31, 2011 to the IDB country offices in the 26 countries in Latin America and the
Caribbean.

The IDB will award grants ranging from $3,000 to $10,000 for cultural projects that fulfill a local need, support artistic excellence, and
contribute toward cultural value, youth and community development besides stimulating economic and social activity in new and

The Cultural Development Grant Program is designed to encourage the development of innovative projects, preserve and recover
traditions and conserve cultural heritage, among other goals. The projects are evaluated for their viability, educational scope,
effective use of resources, ability to mobilise additional financial resources and the long-term impact on the community.
The IDB may finance up to two-thirds of a single project. Local organisations are responsible for providing the remainder of the
resources and supporting the project on a sustainable basis

Caribbean Nationals – European funded scholarships


Caribbean nationals, including staff, postgraduate students and alumni of The University of the West Indies (UWI), can apply for
scholarships available in the 2011 Mundus ACP Project led by the University of Porto, Portugal and sponsored by the European
Commission.

The Erasmus Mundus programme is a cooperation and mobility programme in higher education, which aims to promote partnerships
between European and third-country higher education institutions by providing exchange and scholarship opportunities.

Participation in the Project is not limited to the staff and students of The UWI (Target Group 1), however. Full Master’s scholarships
are available to Caribbean nationals who have obtained a university degree or equivalent from other Higher Education Institutions
(HEIs) in the Caribbean countries classified as ACP countries* (Target Group 2), as well as candidates who can demonstrate that they
are in a particularly vulnerable Institution, for social, political or economical reasons (Target Group 3).

The deadlines for application are December 31, 2010 for UWI Doctoral students and academic and administrative staff (Target Group
1) and January 31, 2011 for all other categories of Master’s students (Target Groups 2 & 3).

Program in Economic Policy Management


The Program in Economic Policy Management (PEPM) at Columbia University’s School of International and Public Affairs (SIPA) is a
14-month mid-career professional program for policymakers, development professionals and others interested in gaining applied
