Introduction

The following work is carried out to address the material Electromagnetic Theory
and waves which in its second phase illustrates the propagation of waves in
different media, such as determining the impedance, the tangent of losses, specific
parameters to determine the behavior of the propagation media the operations to
analyze each component of the development of the topics of electrodynamics under
the theory of application through several exercises to perform in this wonderful
course.

Questions: (write with your own words)

Questions: (write the answer with your own words)

1. In the context of electromagnetic waves, what does "Open propagation medium"
mean?
2. In the context of the means of propagation, what is the meaning of "Tangent of
loss"?
3. According to the value of the loss tangent, how are the propagation media
classified?
4. What are the parameters of wave propagation through a medium?
DEVELOPING::

1. Open propagation medium: Electromagnetic waves are those that

do not need a material means to propagate, including, among others,
visible light and radio, telephony and television waves all propagate in
a vacuum at a speed of 3000000Km / s but not infinite, we define as a
means to as a set of oscillators capable of entering vibration by the
action of a force
When we talk about a medium, I don't know what it means. It refers to
air to the extent that this is the most common means of propagating
sound in acoustic systems among human beings, whether through
speech or music, for example.
The air as medium has other important characteristics for propagation
The propagation is linear, which means that different waves can
propagate through the same space at the same time without affecting
each other.
-It is a non-dispersive medium since the waves propagate at the same
speed independent of their frequency and amplitude.
-is also a homogeneous medium, so that the sound for example
spreads spherically in all directions forming what is known in this case
as a sound field.
2. Loss tangent: refers to the parameter that depends on the
characteristics of the medium and the frequency of the signal and
determines the relationship between the conduction current and the
displacement.
σ
tan ( δ )=
ωϵ
Where:
ϵ =electric permit
ϵ =ϵ r ϵ 0
1
ϵ 0= ∗10−9
36 π
σ =conductivity
ω=2 πf angular frequency .

3. According to the loss tangent, we can characterize the means as:

- tan ( δ ) ≥10 → Good driver
- tan ( δ ) <0,01 →Good insulator
-0,01< tan ( δ ) <10 → Dissipative dielectric
- tan ( δ )=0→ Dielectricperfect
- tan ( δ ) →∞ → Perfect driver ..
4. The parameters that are taken into account through the medium, as the
first measure taken into account as the first measure is:
-The amplitude: It is the maximum elongation or what is the same the
maximum distance of any point of the measured wave with respect to its
equilibrium position its joined A, is expressed in units of length (m).
-The wavelength: It is the distance between two successive points that are in
the same state of vibration (same elongation, speed and acceleration)
It is symbolized with the Greek letter
λ ( lambda ) expressed ∈units of (m).

Electromagnetic waves travel at the speed of light when they propagate in a

vacuum when these waves have their advance through the metallic
transmission lines the speed depends largely on the type of cable traveling
the electromagnetic wave slower
5. Key properties in electromagnetic waves:
1- The wave is transversal; so much É as B́they are perpendicular to the
direction of propagation of the wave, the electric and magnetic fields are also
perpendicular to each other, the direction of propagation is the direction of
the vector product É x B́.
2- There is a definite reason between the magnitudes of É y B́ : E=cB
3- The wave travels in a vacuum with defined and invariable speed.
4-Unlike the mechanical waves that need oscillating particles of a medium
such as air or water, in order to transmit said waves they do not need a
medium that undulates within them is an electric and magnetic field.
Act 5: individually, depending on the exploration performed, solve the 5
steps of the application exercise, using the means of propagation chosen, the
procedures performed must be shown.

Application exercises:

-Calculate the tangent of losses Tan (δ) and the angle of losses δ of the
medium chosen in Table 1, if through it travel an electromagnetic wave E of
frequency f =CCC MHz. Note that CCC are the first 3 digits of your
identification number:

σ σ
tan ( δ )= =
ω ε 2 πf ε r ε o

 Conductivity: 4
Electrical permittivity: ε r =80
 f : 943 Mhz

σ 4
tan ( δ )= = =0,95307
ω ε 2 π∗943∗10 ∗80∗8.85∗10−12
6

tan ( δ )=0,95307

( δ )=tan−1 ( 0,95307 )=43,62°

2. According to the result obtained in point 1, classify the behavior of the
chosen medium according to one of the 5 options in Table 2:

As we see it, it would be classified as dissipative dielectrics.

3. According to the classification obtained in point 2 and using Table 3 below,

calculate the following wave propagation parameters in the chosen medium:

γ = √ i∗ω∗μ∗μ0∗( σ +i∗ω∗ε )= √i∗2∗π∗f∗μ r∗μ 0∗( σ +i∗2∗π∗f ∗ε r∗ε 0 )

γ =48.6704+ 4.19692i

4. According to the results obtained in point 3 and using the following equations,
calculate the propagation characteristics of the wave in the chosen medium:
--Propagatión speed:

5. According to the parameters obtained in the previous points and knowing that the
maximum value of the E wave is 120V / m, calculate:

The penetration depth of the wave δ p in the middle..

Conclusions
Conclusion 1:

-We analyze the concepts of the propagation of electromagnetic waves in

different media, taking into account the laws of application for the different
concepts addressed within the material Electromagnetic theory.

-We approve the appropriate concepts to solve a series of exercises aimed at

the conceptualization of issues related to the subject, such as open
propagation media, loss tangent, propagation media and their classification,
essential issues for the proper development of topics to talk about.
