1 Introduction

With the release of MiriMap2000+ v4.14, Miri Technologies can now offer the capability of Multiple Sessions over
the Port 5 Ethernet Connection. This feature has been developed for and is only available on the AD2006+ fitted
with the Lantronix Xport Pro.

In the past, the IP Address and Port Numbers defined in the Port 5 settings were only used if the RTU was a master
to other stations on the Ethernet port, and the Xport Pro was configured using the Lantronix Device Installer. With
the development of Multi-Session, the Mirimap2000+ software now handles all of the settings regarding an
Ethernet Connection and Lantronix Device Installer is not used.

Version 3 maps and all other onboard Ethernet Modules remain compatible with v4.14, but any map using the
Multi-Session capabilities requires an upgrade of AD2006+ Drivers and Xport Pro Firmware. The new Drivers for the
AD2006+ can be downloaded by simply opening a map with v4.14 and re-downloading to the unit, whilst the Xport
Pro Firmware upgrade is explained in the next section.

2 Upgrading the Xport Pro Firmware for Multi-Session

The following steps should be followed to upgrade the Xport Pro Firmware on an AD2006+.

Step 1) For the Lantronix Device Installer to be able to see the Xport Pro over Ethernet on the AD2006+ the
map in it must be one with Port 5 configured as Ethernet. By default, every AD2006+ that leaves the factory
has a map with Port 5 correctly configured according to its hardware.

If the Xport Pro is not visible over Ethernet, creating a station in MiriMap2000+ and making the Port 5
settings the same as pictured below and then downloading to the unit will ensure the Xport Pro is visible
via DHCP on an Ethernet network. At this stage there is no need to put in an IP address in the Port 5
settings.

Step 2) Open Lantronix Device Installer (available here: http://www.lantronix.com/device-

networking/utilities-tools/device-installer.html)

Step 3) Cycle the power on the AD2006+. This will ensure the Xport Pro is initialised correctly for the
Firmware Upgrade.

Step 4) Find the Xport Pro intended for upgrade on the Ethernet Network and click on Upgrade, shown
below.

In this example, we will be upgrading 192.168.11.30.

Step 5) Click next on Step 1 of 5, shown below

Step 10) On Step 4 of 5, click Next, shown below.

Step 11) For Step 5 of 5, wait while the Software Downloads the Firmware, this should take less than 60
seconds. On a successful upgrade the screen below should display. Click Close.

The Xport Pro now has Multi-Session capable Firmware. If for some reason the firmware download fails to
upgrade and the Xport Pro is no longer visible via the Device Installer, the Xport Pro can be re-flashed serially via
USB using the process detailed in Appendix A.

3 IP Address Settings
With the Xport Pro on the AD2006+ now having the correct firmware, MiriMap2000+ now controls the IP Address
according only to the Port 5 settings in MiriMap2000+. Lantronix Device Installer now serves no purpose concerning
the configuration of the Ethernet Port.

3.1. DHCP

In the case where the AD2006+ needs to obtain an IP Address from a DHCP server, simply enter the IP Address as
0.0.0.0 and reprogram the AD2006+. In this case the Subnet Mask and Gateway Address are ignored, and these are
automatically configured via the DHCP Server the AD2006+ is connected to. An example of the Ethernet Port
configured for DHCP is shown below.

3.2. Static IP

In the case where the AD2006+ needs to assume a Static IP Address with a custom Subnet Mask and Gateway
Address, simply enter these values into the software and reprogram the AD2006+. By default the subnet is set as
255.255.255.0 and there is no gateway configured. An example of a configuration with a Static IP Address with a
custom Subnet Mask and Gateway Address is shown below.

4 Example Maps

4.1. Example 1 – Miri TCP Slave

Accompanying this guide is a MiriMap2000+ File named Example 1 - TCP Slave, this can be found in the examples
folder of MiriMap2000+. The map is an example setup for a TCP Slave over Ethernet using the Miri Protocol.
Whatever IP address is configured in the Port 5 settings will be the IP Address the Miri unit will give to the Xport
Pro. Historically port 10001 has been used as this is the first unreserved port. In doing this DHCP is turned off on
the device. When configuring static IP addresses ensure the IP selected is available for use on the network.

The Port 5 Settings for the TCP Slave map are shown below:

Note that for operation as a TCP Miri Slave the following settings are required:

Protocol: AD2000

Interface: Ethernet

Polling: No Poll

Session: Accepts Conn.

The IP Address and Port Number may be changed to suit your needs. Port 10001 is the first non-reserved port
number.

We can use the Watcher in MiriMap2000+ to check the comms. Go Online and look at Analog Input 8, which is by
default the Input Voltage monitor. The settings to connect over Ethernet are shown below.

4.2. Example 2 – Miri UDP Slave

Accompanying this guide is a MiriMap2000+ File named Example 2 - Miri UDP Slave, this can be found in the
examples folder of MiriMap2000+. The map is an example setup for a UDP Slave over Ethernet using the Miri
Protocol. Whatever IP address you put into the Port 5 settings will be the IP Address the Miri unit will give to the
Xport. In doing this DHCP is turned off on the device. Make sure the IP you select is free on your network. The Port 5
Settings for the UDP Slave map are shown below:

Note that for operation as a UDP Miri Slave the following settings are required:

Protocol: AD2000

Interface: Ethernet

Polling: No Poll

The IP Address and Port Number may be changed to suit your needs.

After programming the unit with this map, we can use the Watcher in MiriMap2000+ to check the comms. Open the
Watcher, select Analog Input 8 (Input Voltage monitor) in the Table and click Go Online. Use the following settings:

With UDP, often the MiriMap2000+ software can see 2 IP Addresses. When this occurs, the following pop up will
appear:

Simply select which IP address you would like MiriMap2000+ to use to communicate to the unit via. In the above
example it doesn’t matter which one you select, as the 169.254.251.136 IP address is a link-local address assigned
by the DHCP server. You may have a wireless adapter which would have a different IP.

4.3. Example 3 - Miri Multipoint with Spare TCP Programming Port

Accompanying this guide is a map named Example 3 - Miri Multipoint TCP; this can be found in the examples folder
of MiriMap2000+. An overview of the map is shown below:

This map is a Point to Multipoint example using the Miri Protocol with TCP over Ethernet. In this example the Digital
Inputs of the Master are sent to the Digital Outputs of the Slave Stations. The Digital Outputs are sent back to
MemVars00051 & MemVars00052 in the Master for observation via the Watcher.

In this example, all of the communications between Miri Units are conducted over Port 10002. It is important to
note that for any Unit to Unit communications that the same Port number needs to be used in the Master and
Slaves. For consistency Miri Technologies recommends the following Port Allocations. Port 502 for Modbus is a
Modicon reserved port and many devices expect this and won’t allow you to change.

Port Allocation

502 TCP MODBUS

10001 Miri Remote Access via Watcher and Programming Purposes (TCP)

10002 Miri Point to Multipoint Communications (UDP)

20000 DNP3 (slave only)

After programming the Master and the Slaves via MiriMap2000+, and assuming they have the Upgraded Firmware,
they should establish comms.

Now the 3 units have comms, we can look in any 3 units via Port 10001 TCP for diagnostic or Programming
purposes. Below we are going in via the Watcher on Port 10001 to the Master and seeing the Digital Inputs
displayed, as well as coming back from Station 1.

4.4. Example 4 – Miri Multipoint UDP and MODBUS with Spare TCP
Programming Port

Accompanying this guide is a map named Example 4 – Miri Multipoint UDP and MODBUS, as well as a Citect Project
File Miri_MODBUS_Testbench.ctz; these can be found in the examples folder of MiriMap2000+ . An overview of the
map is shown below:

This map is identical to Example 3, but it uses UDP to communicate over Ethernet between the Miri Units, and the
Master is also a MODBUS Slave to Citect. The IP you select for the Master must be available on the Network, and
also adjusted accordingly in the Communications>Ports settings of the Citect Project. If you simply run the project
and map, the Master Station been configured for 192.168.11.80.

When running, the Citect Testbench looks like this:

It shows the current state of the DINs and AINs of the Master, and also lets you control the DOUTS via the buttons
on the right hand side.

Appendix A - Xport Pro Firmware Re-Flash

If for some reason the Firmware Upgrade process from section 2 fails, the following process can be followed to re-
flash the Xport Pro. Please note that before starting you will need to be able to power cycle the unit, program it via
USB, and be able to turn Digital Input 1 (DIN1) on and off.

1) Accompanying this guide is a Miri Map file named Xport Pro Firmware Re-Flash.mmf. Open this in
MiriMap2000+ and download it to your AD2006+ via USB. The map is a stock AD2006 station with Port 5
Protocol set to Xport Pro Firmware Re-Flash, shown below.

2) Ensure the unit is in run mode, and perform a power cycle of the AD2006+

5) The following screen will appear. The Lantronix software now needs the Xport Pro to be powered on so it
can access it serially. This is done by turning DIN1 ON. If this doesn’t work on the first attempt (within 5
seconds of DIN1 being switched ON) turn DIN1 off and then on again for another 5 seconds. Sometimes
this can take up 3-4 attempts. Once the download starts do not turn DIN1 off during the download.
