NATIONAL ARCHIVES OF THE PHILIPPINES

The National Archives of the Philippines is the home of about 60 million documents from the
centuries of Spanish rule in the Philippines, the American and Japanese occupations, as well as
the years of the Republic. It is also the final repository for the voluminous notarized documents
of the country

Parkfacing T.M. Kalaw Avenue, neighboring culturally significant buildings such as theMuseum of
Philippine Political Historyand theNational Historical Commission. Like its neighbors, it is under
the jurisdiction of theNational Commission for Culture and the Arts(NCCA).

THE NATIONAL HISTORICAL COMMISSION OF THE PHILIPPINES

(Filipino: Pambansang Komisyong Pangkasaysayan ng Pilipinas, abbreviated NHCP) is a


government agency of the Philippines. Its mission is "the promotion of Philippine history and
cultural heritage through research, dissemination, conservation, sites management and heraldry
works.

National Museum of the Philippines

(Filipino: Pambansang Museo ng Pilipinas) is an umbrella government organization that


oversees a number of national museums in the Philippines including ethnographic,
anthropological, archaeological and visual arts collections. Since 1998, the National Museum
has been the regulatory and enforcement agency of the Government of the Philippines in the
restoring and safeguarding of important cultural properties, sites, and reservations throughout
the Philippines.
NATIONAL MUSEUM OF FINE ARTS

The National Museum of Fine Arts, formerly called the National Art Gallery, is housed in the old
Legislative Building. The building was originally intended as a public library as proposed
in Daniel Burnham's 1905 Plan for Manila. Designed by Ralph Harrington Doane, the American
consulting architect of the Bureau of Public Works, and his assistant Antonio Toledo.
Construction of the building began in 1918 and completed in 1921.
NATIONAL MUSEUM OF ANTHROPOLOGY

The National Museum of Anthropology, formerly known as the Museum of the Filipino People,
is a component museum of the National Museum of the Philippines that houses the
Archaeology Division, Ethnology Division, Exhibition, Editorial and Media Production Services
Division (EEMPSD), Maritime and Underwater Cultural Heritage Division (MUCHD), and
Museum Services Division (MSD). It is located in the Agrifina Circle, Rizal Park, Manila across the
main National Museum building which is the National Museum for Fine Arts. The building was
the former headquarters of the Department of Finance.
NATIONAL MUSEUM OF NATURAL HISTORY

It was recently announced that the third building of this museum complex — the one presently
occupied by the Department of Tourism, shall be developed into the National Museum of
Natural History, once the Department moves out and transfers to its permanent location
in Makati. The National Museum of Natural History will have a hexagonal DNA tower structure
in its center which will be the base for the ventilating roof-dome of the whole building. Living
trees will also be planted within the interior of the building. It was expected to be finished in
the last quarter of 2015[6] but the opening of the museum was moved sometime in 2017. In
October 2017, the National Museum of Natural History officially opened to the public with its
iconic Tree of Life structure.
UNIVERSITY OF THE PHILIPPINES MAIN LIBRARY

The School of Library and Information Studies of the University of the Philippines or UP-SLIS is


the oldest library school in the Philippines. Formally established in March 1961 as the Institute
of Library Science, it can trace it roots to 1914, making it one of the first library schools in Asia.
It is an independent degree-granting unit of the University of the Philippines Diliman, and offers
programs in the field of library and information science. In December 2015, the Commission on
Higher Education declared the school as the first Center of Excellence among the universities
and colleges with library and information programs in the Philippines.
Gonzalez Hall in UP Diliman, which houses the school. The building also houses the Main
Library, the University Archives and a Heritage Museum, making it an ideal laboratory for LIS
students.

ADMU RIZAL LIBRARY

The Rizal Library is the main university library of the Ateneo de Manila University. It mainly


serves and supports the teaching and research in the Loyola Schools. It is named after Ateneo
de Manila alumnus José Rizal, the national hero of the Philippines.
The Ateneo's main library was first located in the Ateneo campus in Intramuros, Manila. Fathers
Vicente Jiménez, S.J. and Jacinto Lloven, S.J. collected books and started a library. Supported by
the Ayuntamiento (city government of Manila), the first Ateneo library in Intramuros served its
purpose effectively for over four decades. In 1921, when the school administration passed to
American Jesuits, the Ateneo library was briefly under the care of Fr. Edward Duffy, S.J. Fr.
Walter J. Claffey, S.J., was appointed its first director. Claffey officially established the library in
the Intramuros campus's "Salón de Vistas," which was later called "Rizal Hall." Fr. Walter
Meagher, S.J. became director in 1922 and two years later Fr. James Moran took over.

UST LIBRARY

The UST Miguel de Benavides Library (Tagalog: Aklatang Miguel de


Benavides, Spanish: Biblioteca Miguel de Benavides), (formerly called UST Central Library) is the
Central University Library of the University of Santo Tomas. The Library has been in continuous
service and even antedates the existence of the University itself. Even wars did not interrupt
this service and it has adapted over time.

The University Library can be considered as the oldest in the country. The first seeds were
planted when in the early 17th century "the founders," Fr. Miguel de Benavides and Fr. Diego
Soria, donated their private collections for a future college. Through the history of the
University other Dominicans contributed books indispensable in the education for the
priesthood.
