The Intent
The objective of this survey is to obtain information on the Safe Evacuation of the
Occupants of the Building in case of Fire. The questionnaire that follows is a tool for
collection of data to understand the need to strengthen the safe evacuation of the
occupants of the building in the case of emergency in case of Fire.

All the Engineering Heads / Facility Managers are requested to respond candidly to all
the questions. The information will be used only to take further measures to strengthen
the safety and security of the hotel premises and the building and will be kept
confidential. Thank you for your co-operation.

Q1. Have Emergency Lights and Exit Signages been implemented in the Hotel Building?

& Exit Lights?

Q3. Are the Emergency and Exit Luminaries located at the point of emphasis on escape
routes?

Q4. Are the Emergency and Exit Luminaries installed as per international or national
standards because in the end the owner is responsible for the emergency lighting as
per relevant emergency lighting standards of NBC India 2016, Part 4 Fire and Life
Safety?

Q5. Do we comply to NFPA 101 (Chapter 7.9) Section 7.10.5.2.2 which asks for exit signs
to flash on and off upon activation of the fire alarm system?

Q6. Is the procedure for emergency lighting fixtures and its periodic testing &
maintenance as per relevant emergency lighting standards of NBC India 2016, Part 12
Assets and Facility Management?

Q7. Does the emergency and exit light installed has the monitoring facility to check the
lights in the Building Management System to ensure proper maintenance records?

Q8. Does the emergency and exit lighting system comply to NBC 2016 PART 4: FIRE AND
LIFE SAFETY Section 3.4.7.1 f), Lighting which asks for the emergency lighting shall be
provided to be put on within 5 Seconds of the failure of the normal lighting shall be
able to maintain the required illumination level for a period of not less 1½ hours (90

minutes) in the event of failure of the normal lighting even for smaller premises?

Q9. Does the emergency and exit lighting system comply to NBC 2016 PART 4: FIRE AND
LIFE SAFETY Section 3.4.7.1 d), Lighting which asks for; The horizontal luminance at
floor level on the centreline of an escape route shall not be less than 10 lumen/m 2
(10lux)? In addition, for escape routes up to 2m wide, Does 50 % of the route width lit
to a minimum of 5 lumen/m2 (5 lux)?
Q10. Does the building has other safety and security systems, out of the following?
a. Integrated Building Management System IP Based
b. Addressable Fire Alarm System
c. Public Address and Evacuation System
d. Battery Health Monitoring System
