1. Scope
This standard defines the design, material selection, and installation of electrical systems in plant
buildings. It does not cover the power supply to any process equipment.

This standard is for electrical installations in non-hazardous areas. For electrical installation
requirements in hazardous areas, see SES E21-G01.

3. Definitions
For the purpose of understanding this standard, the following definitions apply.
See SES E20-E01 and E20-E02 for lighting definitions.
Busway. Busways are an assembly of factory-mounted, bare or insulated conductors, which are
usually copper or aluminum bars, rods, or tubes installed in a grounded metal enclosure.
Wireway. Wireways are metallic or nonmetallic troughs with covers for housing and protecting
wires and cables.
Lighting Power Density (LPD). A measure of electrical power used to provide lighting to a space
- expressed in watts per square meter, as specified by ASHRAE.

4. General
4.1 Lighting and receptacle circuit wiring shall comply with SES E02-G01, E20-E03, and
NFPA 70.
4.2 Lighting circuits shall support lighting systems designed in accordance with
SES E02-G01 and E20-E01 and light fixtures in accordance with SES E20-E02.
4.3 Battery Rooms shall comply with SES E14-E01 and E14-S02.
4.4 Installation, inspection and testing of electrical systems in buildings, shall conform to
relevant SABIC ITP’s.
4.5 Documents shall be provided in units conforming to SES Z01-G04, and shall be written
in English language.
4.6 Any conflict(s) between this standard, SES and industry standards, engineering
drawings, and contract documents shall be resolved at the discretion of SABIC.

4.7 Plant Buildings electrical design shall comply with “HCIS Security and Fire Protection
Directives as applicable. Refer to SES E02-G01, Sections 31 and 32 for HCIS
requirements.

5. Environmental Requirements
5.1 Electrical equipment shall be able to withstand the environmental conditions specified in
E02-G01 Section 3, during storage or operation, without damage or degradation of its
operating characteristics.

6. Installation
6.1 All work shall be performed by skilled personnel.
6.2 Defective work or work which does not conform to this standard or referenced
specifications and codes, shall be corrected to the satisfaction of SABIC.
6.3 Drilling of holes in flanges of structural members, for mounting small electric and
equipment items, shall conform to SES B02-S08.
6.4 Where the corrosion protective finish is removed from any equipment or material by, for
example, cutting or welding or by accidental damage, the original finish shall be restored.
6.5 Welding to structures, beams, or equipment which have been stress relieved (heat
treated after fabrication) shall not be permitted.
6.6 The installation of, for example, supports, brackets, and hangers for equipment and
materials, shall not weaken the structure to which they are attached.
6.7 All fastening hardware, for example bolts, nuts, screws, and washers, shall be stainless
steel for outdoor use and zinc plated for indoor use. Supports for conduit and equipment
shall be hot dipped galvanized steel.
6.8 Interface wiring to all electrical equipment shall be connected in accordance with
equipment specifications and manufacturer’s instructions.
6.9 All components, equipment, and materials of the same size, rating, and configuration
shall be supplied by one manufacturer, and shall be interchangeable.

7. Power Supply Requirements


7.1 Process control buildings and substations shall have a normal and an essential power
source. Both power sources shall be 480 V, 3 phase, 3 wire, high resistance grounding,
if specified in IEC-E08-X01-01.
7.2 Administration building, warehouse, maintenance shop and other large buildings shall
be supplied by a transformer in the building electrical room.
7.2.1 The building power requirements are 480 V, 3 phase, 4 wire. In some cases a
small substation shall be required.
7.2.2 If the load is small or the building is close to a substation, the building can be
served with a 480 V feeder from a substation.
7.2.3 Where a building is fed from a substation, contractor shall provide the conversion
from a three-wire system to a four-wire system.
7.2.4 A local isolation means shall be provided within the building substation or power
panel incase the power source is provided from a power supply. Refer to E14-
S02.
7.2.5 These buildings shall have an essential power supply for essential loads and an
uninterruptible power supply (UPS) as an alternative power supply. The UPS
shall be on the essential power supply.

7.3 Work shops, operator shelters, and other small buildings shall be served from a nearby
480 V source. The source can be a substation or another building. The building being
served shall have a 480 V main panel as required by NFPA 70 Article 230. Ground fault
protection shall be provided where required by NFPA 70. These buildings shall have an
essential power supply for essential lights and where UPS systems are installed, there
shall be an essential power supply for the UPS alternative power.
7.4 All building air conditioning (A/C) equipment, for example fans, blowers, compressors,
and condensers, shall be served from the building motor control centers (MCC). Wiring
shall also be provided for A/C system controls, and an interface with the building fire
alarm system.

8. Distribution Equipment
This section discusses the power distribution in buildings downstream of the power service
discussed in section 7.
8.1 General
8.1.1 Lighting loads shall be on separate 480/400-230V transformers and
panelboards from non-lighting loads.
8.1.2 Small Power circuits including receptacles shall be on separate 480/400-230V
transformers and panelboards from non-receptacle circuits.
8.1.3 For operator shelters and other small buildings, the lighting circuits and Small
Power including receptacle circuits shall be combined on a single transformer
and panelboard.
8.2 Motor Control Centers and Switchboard
8.2.1 The main service entrance equipment for large buildings and buildings with three
phase loads shall consist of a MCC, or switchboard with main breakers and
motor starters, or both.
8.2.2 MCC’s and switchboards shall comply with SES E02-G01, E08-S01 and E09-
S01.
8.3 Transformers
8.3.1 Step-down dry type power transformers provided to serve buildings constructed
in accordance with this standard shall be in accordance with SES E04-S03. The
primary supply shall be 13.8 kV or 4.16 kV, 3 phase, 60 Hz, low resistance
grounded. The secondary system voltage shall be 480/277 V, 3 phase, 60 Hz,
solidly grounded.
8.3.2 Dry type lighting and distribution transformers for building lighting, receptacles,
fans, small heating and air conditioning units, and kitchen appliances shall
comply with SES E04-S02, E02-G01, and E20-E03.
8.3.3 Lighting transformers shall be sized in accordance with SES E02-G01 and E20-
E03.
8.3.4 Dry type transformers serving non-linear loads shall have a K-rating not less
than as specified in SES E04-S02.
8.4 Panelboards
8.4.1 Panelboards shall comply with SES E02-G01 and E20-E03.
8.4.2 The circuit breakers shall be sized based on initial loading and ultimate loading
according to SES E20-E03.
8.4.3 Panelboards shall have 20 percent spare breakers.
8.4.4 The selected location of the panelboard shall minimize branch circuit lengths.

8.4.5 Branch circuits supplying lighting or other devices that are switched periodically
at the panelboard, shall be located in the upper portion of the panelboard.
Circuits that are switched from local wall or column-mounted switches, and those
that supply receptacles and other loads that are normally continuously
energized, shall be located in the lower portion of the panelboard.
8.4.6 The side gutter of panelboards shall be a minimum of 114 mm wide.
8.4.7 The mounting height of the panelboard shall not exceed 1980 mm from the floor
to the top of the panelboard cabinet.
8.4.8 A heavy duty external grounding lug and terminal strip shall be provided.
8.4.9 Neutral buses in panelboards shall be supplied with space and lugs for the
connection of a separate neutral wire for each branch circuit.

9. Wiring Methods
9.1 General
9.1.1 Wiring methods shall conform to SES E21-G01 and NFPA 70, Article 300.
9.1.2 Separate neutral and ground conductors shall be provided for each branch
circuit.
9.1.3 Wiring methods shall be selected as follows:
a. Electrical conductors enclosed in rigid galvanized steel conduit, conduit
bodies, and wireways shall be the principal wiring method
b. The use of busways and cable trays shall be limited to electrical rooms,
buildings, and repair shops
c. The use of wireways shall be restricted to short runs where many
electrical conductors shall be collected. Wireways shall not be used as
a substitute for conduit.
d. Conduit shall be electrical metallic tubing (EMT), rigid galvanized steel
(RGS), or PVC coated RGS
e. The use of EMT and intermediate metal conduit shall be restricted to
dry, unclassified locations, for example office buildings, and where the
installation will not be subject to mechanical damage. EMT shall
conform to NEMA C80.3 and the applicable requirements of 9.2. Only
compression type EMT connectors shall be acceptable.
f. In buildings where conduit is installed in concrete floors, PVC coated
RGS conduit conforming to SES E23-S01shall be used. The minimum
size for below grade conduit shall be 1 in.
g. When above-grade conduit shall be subjected to mechanical damage,
or is installed outdoors in exposed locations, rigid hot dipped galvanized
steel conduit shall be used. In corrosive areas, PVC coated rigid
galvanized steel (RGS) conduit shall be used.
9.1.4 The mechanical continuity of all raceways, and the electrical continuity of metal
raceways, shall be maintained throughout the electrical system.
9.1.5 See SES E02-G01 for types of circuits that shall be run in the same cable tray if
separated by a barrier.
9.2 Conduit and Fittings
9.2.1 Conduit and fittings shall be supplied and installed in accordance with SES E02-
G01, E23-S01 and E23-C01.
9.2.2 For interior walls of hollow construction, for example sheetrock covered beams,
the conduit installation shall be concealed within the building wall space. For

building exteriors and interior solid walls, the conduit installation shall be surface
mounted.
9.2.3 The minimum conduit size for power feeders and multiple circuits shall be ¾ in.
9.2.4 Junction boxes shall be independently mounted, and shall not rely on the
mechanical support of the attached conduit for support.
9.3 Wireways
9.3.1 The wireway installation shall be concealed within the building wall space.
9.3.2 Wireway shall be manufactured from galvanized sheet steel with a minimum
thickness of 1.7 mm (20 gage).
9.3.3 Wireway accessories shall be of the same make and type as the wireway.
9.3.4 Wireway shall not contain preformed knockout stampings; required holes shall
be drilled to suit the installation requirement. In the event of modification, unused
holes shall be plugged.
9.4 Cable Tray
9.4.1 Cable tray shall be supplied and installed in accordance with SES E02-G01,
E24-S01 and E24-C01.
9.4.2 Cable tray shall not be used for routing of conductors to building related electrical
equipment, for example lights, receptacles, and HVAC equipment. Cable tray
shall be used for routing of cables to process equipment, cranes, hoist,
conveyors, and other similar equipment.
9.5 Busway
9.5.1 Busways shall be used to feed power to permanently installed equipment, for
example lathes, drills, and presses (maintenance tools), conveyor systems,
cranes, hoist, and similar equipment. Busways shall also be used to provide
power to isolated areas in the interior of large rooms, for example warehouse
areas, large open office areas and large open areas in manufacturing buildings.
9.5.2 Busways shall not be installed in the following locations:
a. Where subject to physical damage, excessive vibration, or corrosive
vapors
b. Where subject to dust, unless totally enclosed
c. In any Class I, Division 1 location
d. In Class I, Division 2 locations, unless enclosed and gasketed
e. In an unclassified location above a classified location, unless totally
enclosed
f. Above highly flammable materials or areas where personnel shall
congregate, unless totally enclosed
g. In wet or damp indoor locations, unless approved for the purpose by
SABIC
9.5.3 Busway enclosures shall be securely fastened in place, bonded, and grounded
in conformance with NFPA 70, Article 368.
9.5.4 All bolted busway joints shall be assembled and torqued in conformance with
vendor’s instructions.
9.5.5 Busway fittings and accessories shall be readily accessible.
9.5.6 Busways shall be securely supported at intervals not exceeding 1.52 m (60 in),
unless otherwise designed and marked.
9.5.7 Busway dead ends shall be closed.

9.5.8 Busway overcurrent protection shall be in accordance with NFPA 70, Article
368.17(A) through (D).
9.6 Wire and Cable
9.6.1 All cables shall be supplied and installed in accordance with SES E02-G01, IEC-
E22-S01 and IEC-E22-C01.
9.6.2 For all cable, construction and minimum wire sizes shall be as defined in NFPA
70, IEC-E22-S01, SES E02-G01.
9.6.3 Cables shall be continuous from end to end without splices, unless approved in
writing by SABIC.
9.6.4 Permanent wire markers shall be installed on all wires at termination points.
9.6.5 Composite power and control cables, where specified, shall be terminated in a
way that ensures power and control leads will reach their respective termination
points without splicing. Removal of the jacket for the necessary length shall be
done without damaging individual conductors.
9.6.6 In buildings with suspended ceilings, armored cable that complies with of IEC-
E22-S01 shall be used for general wiring of lighting and receptacle circuits. Type
ac cable shall be secured in accordance with NFPA 70 Article 320.
9.6.7 The radii of cable bends shall equal or exceed the minimum values specified by
manufacturer. The minimum bending radii specified in IEC-E22-S01 and in
NFPA 70 shall be used when manufacturer’s data is not available.
9.6.8 Pulling tensions and sidewall pressures for wire and cable shall not exceed the
maximum values specified by manufacturer.
9.7 Junction and Pull Boxes
9.7.1 Junction boxes and pull boxes shall be supplied and installed in accordance with
SES E23-C01.
9.7.2 Junction boxes shall be readily accessible.
9.7.3 Junction boxes shall be independently mounted and shall not rely on the
mechanical support of the attached conduit for support.
9.8 Disconnect Switches
9.8.1 Air conditioner compressor units shall have a disconnect switch located within
sight of the motor. Switch shall comply with NFPA 70 Article 440.
9.8.2 Electric space heating equipment shall have disconnecting means that comply
with NFPA 70 Article 424.
9.8.3 Electric stoves, electric water heaters, and other appliances shall have
dedicated disconnecting means that comply with NFPA 70 Article 422.
9.9 Switches and Receptacles
9.9.1 Switches and receptacles and their circuits shall comply with this section, SES
E20-E03 and NFPA 70 Article 404 and 406 respectively.
9.9.2 The indoor lighting fixtures shall be controlled by one (1) or more multi-way
switches located on the wall adjacent to the non-hinged side of the door frame,
and spaced at least 100 mm from the door trim or corner of the room when
practicable. The switch mounting height shall be 1220 mm above the finished
floor.
9.9.3 Local switches for lighting shall be rated 20 A, and shall be supplied with an ac
rating suitable for the utilization voltage.
9.9.4 Outdoor fixtures shall be controlled using photo-controlled, multi-circuit lighting
contactors equipped with door mounted hand-off-automatic (HOA) switches.

9.9.5 Receptacles and switches shall have external back wiring clamps with an anti-
rotational strand containment feature.
9.9.6 Receptacle mounting height shall be:
a. 915 mm in warehouse and similar areas
b. 460 mm in offices and similar areas
9.9.7 The maximum receptacle spacing as measured along each unbroken wall shall
be:
a. 3.2 m between receptacles installed in offices
b. 15 m between receptacles installed in warehouse
9.9.8 Receptacle spacing and mounting height for laboratory and other locations with
special purpose equipment shall be as indicated on the drawings.
9.9.9 Ground fault interrupter receptacles shall be installed in kitchen, restrooms,
outdoor areas, and other areas which tend to be wet during operation.
9.9.10 Receptacles shall be as follows:
a. Receptacles in offices and similar indoor locations shall be 3 pin, 220V , 13
Amp , 2 gang, switched type , with dimensions and configuration in
accordance with SASO 2203:2003 standard. The receptacles shall be
installed in a box with wall plate for flush mounting, or in a box with a sheet
steel cover for surface mounting.
b. Receptacles installed in non-hazardous indoor and outdoor industrial
locations shall be 3 pin – 230V – 20 Amp – 6h ,NEMA 4X with dimensions
and configuration in accordance with IEC 60309-1 and IEC 60309-2.
Receptacles shall be provided in 2 gang units or in pairs. The receptacles
and plugs shall be COOPER CROUSE-HINDS type GH 320MI6W and GH
320P6W respectively or approved equal.
c. Receptacles installed in hazardous areas, shall be heavy duty type, UL
listed and approved for use in Cl.1, Div. 2 , or Zone 1 & 2 , as required. They
shall be 3 pin – 230V- 20 Amp – 6h -NEMA 4X, with dimensions and
configuration in accordance with IEC 60309-1 and IEC 60309-2. The
receptacles and plugs shall be COOPER CROUSE-HINDS types GHG 511
4306 L3001 and GHG 511 7306 L0001 respectively or approved equal .
d. In non-hazardous areas receptacles shall have a pin configuration which
ensures that the plugs are not interchangeable with those in the hazardous
area
e. Receptacles shall be limited to eight (8) per branch circuit. Circuit loading
shall be estimated on the basis of 180 VA for each receptacle.
f. Welding receptacles shall be provided in all shop areas, positioned in a way
that a receptacle shall be reached by a 30 m cord from any location in the
area
g. Welding receptacles shall be arranged in groups of not more than three (3)
outlets per each welding circuit. The size of the welding power supply feeder
shall be based upon the following total continuous load:
(i) One (1) welding receptacle: 40 kVA
(ii) Two (2) welding receptacles: 70 kVA
(iii) Three (3) welding receptacles: 90 kVA
h. Welding Receptacles installed in Non - Hazardous Areas shall be heavy
duty, UL listed , interlocked switched type, 4 pin – 480V- 60 Amp – 7h ,
NEMA 4X with dimensions and configuration in accordance with IEC
60309-1 and IEC 60309-2.

The receptacles and plugs shall be COOPER CROUSE-HINDS types GHG


460 MI7W and GH 460P7W respectively or approved equal.
i. Welding Receptacles installed in Hazardous Areas shall be heavy duty
type, UL listed and approved for use in Cl.1, Div. 2 or Zone 1 &2 , as
required. They shall be 4 pin – 480V- 60 Amp – 7h NEMA 4X, with
dimensions and configuration in accordance with IEC 60309-1 and IEC
60309-2.
The receptacles and plugs shall be COOPER CROUSE-HINDS types GHG
514 4407 L3001 and GHG 514 7407 L0001 respectively or approved equal.
9.9.11 Receptacles should be wall mounted. Floor mounted receptacles should be
avoided.
9.9.12 Dedicated receptacle circuitry shall be provided for special power requirements,
for example computer system circuits, separate outlets for building cleaning
equipment, and kitchen appliances. In particular, office areas with computer
terminals or other electronic equipment shall be wired to preclude overheating
of the branch circuit panels and neutral conductors caused by harmonic currents
of non-linear type loads.
9.9.13 See SES E02-G01 for additional requirements for receptacles.

10. Lighting
10.1 General
10.1.1 The lighting in buildings shall comply with the SES E02-G01, E20-E01,
E20-E02, and E20-E03. Where differences in lighting levels exist between the
lighting tables that are a part of the specifications listed in this paragraph, the
table in SES E20-E01 shall apply.
10.1.2 The maximum Lighting Power Densities (LPD) and Minimum Control
Requirements shall be as per Section 9. Table 9.5.1; Table 9.6.1 of ASHRAE
90.1 shall be applied to Plant Buildings and exterior areas.
10.1.3 Rapid start fluorescent fixtures shall be used for low ceiling, indoor areas
requiring high illumination levels, for example office and control rooms. The
fixture ballast voltage shall be 230 V single phase. Lamps shall be color
corrected, cool white.
10.1.4 High pressure sodium fixtures with color corrected lamps shall be used in
outdoor and indoor applications both in classified and non-classified areas
where specified, and with ballast voltages of 230 V single phase as required.
10.1.5 In offices areas with suspended ceilings, drop-in flush troffers shall be used.
10.1.6 Lighting for control room instrument panels and similar installations shall be
designed to illuminate vertical panel mounted equipment and details with glare-
free uniform intensity. Directional luminaries shall be used.
10.1.7 For control room general area, a luminous ceiling metallic grid parabolic system
shall be provided. See SES E20-E01 and E20-E02 for additional control room
and indoor lighting requirements.
10.1.8 The exterior lighting installation shall be weatherproof and listed for the area
installed, if installed in a hazardous location.
10.1.9 Luminaries for general illumination shall be mounted minimum 2440 mm above
the finished floor.
10.2 Special Lighting
10.2.1 Lighting for control rooms with video display terminals shall be designed to
minimize glare and avoid ceiling reflections on the terminal faces.

10.2.2 Light sources shall be positioned out of the mirror-angle of reflection with respect
to the task and the operator's eyes.
10.2.3 Recessed fluorescent luminaries with an aluminum parabolic wedge louver shall
be provided.
10.2.4 A luminary dimming system shall be provided for conference rooms,
auditoriums, control rooms, and other rooms where the ability to adjust the
lighting level is important for the activities for which the room is intended, for
example the use of projectors, control system monitors, and television displays.
10.2.5 Fluorescent fixtures installed in rooms with electronic equipment shall be
provided with inductance-capacitance filters.
10.3 Essential Lighting
10.3.1 Substation and control room lighting shall be fed from the plant essential power
system.
10.3.2 In addition to the requirement of 10.3.1, essential lighting shall be provided as
follows:
a. Occupied Areas - selected key luminaries (approximately 20 percent of the
fixtures) for general illumination, to permit safe access and egress by
personnel and for monitoring critical local controls, shall be assigned to
essential power system. These fixtures shall be marked and identified as
emergency lighting.
b. All Areas - exit lights. These fixtures shall be battery pack type fixtures.
10.4 Obstruction Lighting
Usually, aviation obstruction lighting is not required on buildings. If a building structure
exceeds the height of other nearby structures, see SES E20-E01 for determination of
aviation obstruction lighting requirements.

11. Grounding
11.1 General
11.1.1 Grounding and lightning protection of buildings shall be in accordance with SES
E02-G01, E11-S03, E11-E02, X05-E04d and NFPA 70.
11.1.2 Wall mounted, pre-fabricated, copper grounding bus-bar(s) for non-instrument
grounding shall be provided in the building locations shown on the drawings,
and shall be connected to the building steel and plant grounding grid as shown
on the drawings.
11.1.3 Grounding bus-bar units shall be fabricated from 6 mm x 51 mm x 356 mm
copper bar (minimum) and as detailed on the drawings.
11.1.4 Grounding bus-bar units over 1520 mm in length shall have two (2) connections
to the plant grounding grid.
11.1.5 All electrical equipment installed in the building shall be connected to a
grounding bus-bar.
11.2 Buildings
11.2.1 Building frames shall be connected to the main grounding loop.
11.2.2 The local building grounding system shall be connected to the plant area
grounding system at two locations minimum, with green insulated, 70 mm2 (#2/0
AWG) copper wire.
11.2.3 Foundation bolts shall not be used for grounding purposes.
11.2.4 Lightning protection shall be furnished for all buildings, in conformance with
NFPA 70 and 780, and SES E11-E02. The facilities shall include all necessary

cable, down conductors, lightning rods/air terminals, connectors, test clamps,


and connections to the plant grounding system.

12. Control and Communication Systems


Refer to K series of SES for Communication systems requirements. Refer to X series for DCS
Communication and peripheral wiring system

13. Fire Alarm Systems


Refer to SES F03-G01 for building fire alarm system requirements.
14. Electrical Energy Monitoring System
14.1 As required by ASHRAE 90.1, measurement devices shall be installed in buildings
more than 2322 sq.m in floor area and for equipment installed in addition to existing
buildings (with floor area larger than 2322 sq.m floor area) , to monitor the electrical
energy use for each of the following separately:
a. Total electrical energy
b. HVAC systems
c. Interior lighting
d. Exterior lighting
e. Receptacle circuits

14.2 Health care facilities or equipment within the building need not be monitored or
recorded.
14.3 The electrical energy usage for all loads specified above shall be recorded a minimum
of every 15 minutes and reported at least hourly, daily, monthly, and annually. The
system shall be capable of maintaining all data collected for a minimum of 36 months.
14.4 Measurement devices shall also be installed to monitor the building (with floor area
larger than 2322 sq.m) use of the following types of energy supplied by utility that is not
within the building:
a. Chilled water
b. Hot water
14.5 The fuel used by on-site emergency equipment need not be monitored or recorded.

15. Documentation
15.1 General
15.1.1 Contractor shall provide documentation for the electrical systems for buildings.
The documentation required will vary according to the size and function of the
building. The electrical documents specified in this section shall be provided.
15.1.2 Small buildings shall combine the plan drawings.

15.2 One Line Diagram


15.2.1 Control buildings, administration buildings, and other larger buildings shall
require one line diagrams to show the details of these buildings’ more complex
power systems.
15.2.2 The one line diagram shall show the electrical system from the electrical service
to distribution panels, motors, HVAC, UPS, and battery chargers.
15.2.3 Equipment numbers and ratings shall be shown.
15.3 Equipment Location Plan
15.3.1 Location of transformers, motor control centers, switchboards, panelboards,
uninterruptable power supplies, batteries, battery chargers, and automatic
transfer switches shall be shown. Ratings and sizes of the equipment shall be
shown.
15.3.2 Locations of the interconnecting busways, wireways, cable trays, and conduits
shall be shown.
15.4 Lighting and Receptacles Plan
15.4.1 Locations of lighting fixtures, lighting transformers and panelboards shall be
shown.
15.4.2 Locations of receptacles, receptacle power transformers and panelboards shall
be shown.
15.4.3 Locations of transformers and panelboards of, for example kitchen appliances,
and water heaters shall be shown.
15.4.4 Locations of welding receptacles shall be shown.
15.4.5 Designation of each circuit, conduit, wireway, busway, transformer, and
panelboard shall be shown.
15.4.6 For each conduit, wireway, busway, show:
a. Its routing
b. Its designation
c. Designations of all circuits inside
d. Number and size of conductors of each circuit
15.4.7 Plan and elevation drawings shall be prepared, to determine if aviation
obstruction lighting is required. If aviation obstruction lighting is required,
aviation obstruction lighting plan drawings shall be prepared, showing the lights
and the essential power lighting circuits from the essential power panelboard to
the lights, in accordance with SES E20-E01.
15.4.8 Lighting calculations shall be provided.
15.4.9 Installation details shall be provided.
15.5 Communications Plan
15.5.1 Refer to K series of SES for Communication systems requirements.
15.6 Grounding Plan
15.6.1 Building structure grounding shall be shown.
15.6.2 Grounding for the building's electrical system, for example panelboards,
transformers, motor control centers, and switchboards shall be shown.
15.6.3 Grounding for the communications systems shall be shown.
15.6.4 Grounding details shall be shown.

16. Testing
The installation shall be tested upon completion of the work, as specified in NETA-ATS, and shall
include the tests listed in this section.
16.1 General
16.1.1 The installation of all wiring, cabling, terminations, conduit or raceway and
device installation shall be visually checked for proper installation, and all wiring
continuity shall be checked.
16.1.2 All control equipment and circuits shall be checked for proper operation.
16.2 Insulation Resistance Test
16.2.1 Tests shall be carried out using a 500 V Megger tester for equipment rated
600 V.
16.2.2 With all apparatus and lamps disconnected and all switches closed, the
insulation resistance shall not be less than one (1) MΩ between conductors or
conductors to earth.
16.2.3 Where it is not practicable to disconnect the apparatus or remove lamps, with all
switches open, the insulation resistance shall not be less than 0.5 MΩ between
conductors or conductors to earth.
16.3 Polarity Check
Verification of polarity shall be made, to ensure that all single pole control devices are
connected to the live conductor only; that the outer contacts of center-contact bayonet
and Edison-type screw lampholders are connected to the neutral or grounded conductor;
and that cabling has been correctly connected to plugs and receptacles.
16.4 Grounding
Ground continuity reading shall be recorded from each piece of equipment to the main
grounding terminal. No test reading shall exceed 0.1 Ω.
