I am writing again to express my concems with your Executive Orders (“EO”) that has a direct and negative impact on my community, Moss Point. Your EO directly interferes with the ability of municipal elected officials” statutory duties and commitments, including but not limited to the governing authorities’ ability to restrict businesses that it does not deem “essential”, religious organizations, and specifically daycares. Iam asking you to please work with us by amending your EO and removing the barriers that took away the municipalities’ authority to protect its citizens. As local leaders, we are on the frontline daily and know and understand our communities’ needs. As such, itis imperative that we can define essential businesses how we see fit. If you are not aware, I urge you to speak to Dr. Dobbs so that you are fully aware of the large number of citizens testing positive for COVID-19 in the City of Moss Point. Moss Point is considered a hot spot and the numbers are growing due to the amount of people out conducting non-essential business and not social distancing. While your Supplement cleared up the confusion with regard to a local authorities’ ability to restrict businesses, the fact that you identified every business imaginable as “essential” has prevented the City of ‘Moss Point from taking swift action to protect its citizens. You order is creating hardship for us on a local level. Pease hear the local leaders and listen to us as we work through this time. ‘At this time, we understand that you have not made plans to mandate a shelter in place for the state. This is not the best idea. However, Iam asking you not to take away the statutory authority from ‘municipalities by putting in an executive order that puts our constituents at higher risk for COVID-19. In Moss Point, itis proven that without a shelter in place and the closing of some nonessential services this virus will continue to spread. We are simply asking you to work with us by allowing us to do out jobs.
