Field Networks: Problem Definition
• Pressure Transmitter issues

• Measurements were intermittently missing on the Operator screen
• Measurement on the display of pressure transmitter was stable.

Field Networks : Start of investigation
• Signal was dirty

• Electromagnetic Interference
• Grounding issues.
• Floating ground, ground currents.
• Shielding was not uniformly grounded
• Junction boxes were plastic and they missed the Faraday cage effect to keep out
the interferences.

Field Networks: Wiring Discipline
• Reworked some of the wiring and found major measurement issues just
disappeared, some junction boxes had to be exchanged with better quality where
the cabling length was taken to the limit.
• Training for the staff.
• Regular Network performance audit.

Field Networks :
•Once one section of the plant performed well, Audit was carried out
at other sites. Recommendations were made and implemented.
•Based on this experience customer involved E+H in “ Revamp
2nd blast furnace” project.
