S.M.A.R.T. Goals
Our main goals for our MGMT project this semester is to create a meaningful and thorough final
deliverable report, presentation and to deliver those projects on time. To our team, a meaningful
and thorough deliverable should receive at least an 80% when graded. We understand this will
be a challenge with our incredibly busy individual schedules but we feel that a B grade is
achievable if we stick to the Team Charter we have outlined in BCOM and the steps listed here.
We will be splitting work as evenly as possible and we will ensure this through the use of 4-1
votes taken while splitting any responsibilities, in order to ensure the maximum effectiveness of
each team member. Team Leader responsibilities are not factored into these splits as there are
additional rewards associated with those responsibilities. Through our precursory research, we
have determined that the two organizational problems we will identify through the course of this
semester are: the stress that in-store Target employees feel from stressors unique to them in
the organization, and the motivation of in-store Target employees and how it relates to
organizational commitment.

To keep the team on the same page and to complete our team deliverables on time, our team
will meet for 4 hours a week, every week. We will meet face-to-face for 2 hours on Tuesdays,
and for 2 hours on Thursdays, between 9AM and 11AM. Additionally, we will communicate
through Facebook Messenger when we are not face-to-face as this will allow us to remain
connected throughout each day. This strict meeting schedule will allow us to stay on the
schedule we have set out for our projects this semester and allow us to avoid as many stressors
as possible that could arise from falling behind. Constant communication will enhance each
team member’s perception of their other teammates and ensure that we all have a channel to
have our voice heard.

Developing the deliverables will follow a multi-phased roadmap to guide us through the
semester. This map is graphically represented later in this document with a Gantt chart with the
full map included here:
● The week of February 10th will have the team creating the roadmap and drafting our
Project Plan with our team leader, Grant, meeting with our assigned preceptor on
February 13th.
● From the 17th to the 19th of February, we will collectively revise our Project Plan draft so
that Grant can submit the assignment the morning of the 19th before 9AM.
● Starting on the 21st of February, Celeste and Grant will begin to disperse surveys to our
selected local Target stores and conduct interviews. We would ideally be done with this
step by the 23rd, but we have scheduled our team discussion of these results for the
25th and 27th in order to provide a time-cushion to help account for any mishaps or
delays in the data collection process. Further information regarding our data collection
plan is found later in this document.
● On March 3rd, we will meet to block out the responsibilities for each team member in
regards to the Major Report. Grant will meet with the preceptor on the 6th and we will
discuss the results of that meeting electronically the weekend of the 7th-8th. It’s
important to us to have this done before spring break begins in order to maximize our
available work-time on the next deliverable.
● After returning from spring break on the 16th, our team will devote our efforts to research
collection. When researching, we will use the library databases available to us through
D2L while being certain to only pull references from the list of approved journals
provided by Professor Martinez. We will cite more than the minimum required 5 research
articles from the aforementioned approved journals. Research is the foundation that we
are building our final deliverables on and began on February 11th and will continue
throughout the entire development process of the project.
● We will divide the responsibilities for, and begin to work on, revising our Major Report
and developing the Final Presentation on April 7th. Grant will be meeting with our
preceptor on the 10th to get feedback on our revisions to the Major Report and the rough
draft of our presentation slide deck with speaker notes.
● We will complete the final revisions of the Major Report and the Presentation on the 14th
as a team. We will also decide who is going to speak during the recording of the
Presentation at this time.
● Recording of the Presentation will take place on the 16th with the entire team present so
that the Participation 360 Feedback surveys can be completed at that time as well.
● Finally, Grant will submit our recorded Presentation and Final Major Report on the
morning of April 20th before 9AM.

Plan for Collecting Data:

The data our team will collect consists of speaking directly to Target store employees. This will
allow us to directly assess and address the OB issues. The team will be directly speaking with
Sue Dennise, a local Target store director, as well as conducting surveys at two Target
locations in Tucson. As a store director, Sues’ position allows our team to gain valuable insight
into Targets human resource department. Conducting an interview with the store director on
how Target supports its employees through HR will help us fully understand the OB issues. The
goal of this interview is to gain specific knowledge on the training HR provides, the benefits
offered to current employees, and how the department resolves employee conflicts. In addition
to the interview, surveys will be available to employees for a period of time in an effort to gain
insight from team members who work in various departments. Having a thorough employee
perspective is important as it allows our team to have a complete view of any issues present.
This employee data will consist of what their needs, wants, and concerns are within the Target
workplace. Surveys will include questions based on the OB management issues. Questions will
be either multiple choice or based on the Likert Scale. Along with internal data on employees
and management, our team will research external customer data. Customer data will include
reviews and opinions on the experience they have when conducting purchases at Target stores.
Employees take either 15 or 30 minute breaks, so we are aiming to create a 10-minute survey.
A list of important topics to consider follows, and we will be using this list to focus in and create
specific, 10 minute surveys for the employees to take via google forms.

Important topics to consider:

● Target store number (to isolate between the two)

● Primary Department
● Pay Satisfaction (I feel that I am paid a fair amount in return for the work I do)
● Promotion Satisfaction (I feel that mobility up the corporate ladder would be possible for
me, if I wanted it)
● Coworker Satisfaction (I get along well with my coworkers)
● Supervision satisfaction (higher-ups treat me with respect, do their jobs well, etc)
● Satisfaction with work itself (How much would you say you like your job (1-10))
● Stress (identify stressors, assess stress levels of employees)

Detailed below are sample questions for the employee interviews and surveys:
