Summary
It has been seen that neophytes in the research field do not understand the nuts and bolts of how
to write a good research proposal. Moreover, they do not realize the importance of research
proposal. A researcher proposal is vital for a researcher in all fields. It gives you a road map for
future research as well. Indeed it is an action plan or a blueprint. Traenkel & Wallenb(2006)
define research proposal as a detailed document created to investigate a specific problem.
Without research proposal, one cannot jump to the actual publications as it defines the intentions
and accurate relationship between variables. Furthermore, it sheds light upon the literature
review. The basic purpose of developing research proposal is to show the problem on which we
are working and that problem should have a significant worth for the academia. No matter what
is the degree of complexity, limited resources, time availability and at the end your purpose of
doing research. However, the scope may vary according to the supervisor or the Research
Guidance Committee. In short, any sort of research begins with an idea or an identification of a
problem. Before all this, one should keep this in mind that board members are having busy
schedule, we researchers have to ask ourselves the certain questions? Will our research study
contribute anything worthwhile towards society? Have we created a link between already done
work especially in terms of theory e.g S-O-R & TPB theory? Can we sort out and speculate the
gaps related to our area of research? Do we researches determine/ identify the scope, parameters
limit, relevant data synchronization, coherence, logical sequence of variables? Are we choosing
the right instruments for data gathering and analysis? If we are clear about our research proposal
theme, we are going to complete our thesis in a timely manner.

Proposal Structure
Preliminaries:
It includes the cover page with a self-explanatory and eye catching phrase. Researcher should
mention the topic’s name, degree, institution, and department. It should have table of contents
which confirms writing rules, titles and subtitles.
Developing a Research Idea:
We use one of the most effective technique to develop a research idea i.e, brainstorming. Other
than the title, we browsed famous journals like Landfonline, Sage, IOR’s, Elsevier, Taylor and
Francis, JSTOR, Springer and British Journal of research. To have an idea of already established
literature. Before this, we should be vigilant about which niche we are going to investigate i.e ,
consumer behavior, advertising, branding or digitalization. All of this will lead towards a well
defined topic statement. So, creating a concept map will help us to ponder upon the relationships
between the various variables. On the other hand, developing research questions and research
objectives are prerequisites of your research proposal.
For instance,
1. How does climate change impact extinction of animal and plant species?
2. Which human activities have the highest impact on rising temperature?
A good research question clarifies the direction. In this whole rigorous research process, we
narrow down and refine questions.
Personality of consumers Personality of consumer of purchase decision

How does personality traits impact consumer purchase decision?

The topic statement should not be broad or narrow rather it should be purposeful. After defining
the problem, it ultimately paves the way for background clarification, justification of the study
and aims of the study. The background should relate the historical, political, social educational,
managerial, and administrative perspective of the problem. The study has to be justified with
defining the gaps in the available literature. Additionally, the purpose/ aims of the study must
address the basic research questions of how, when, where, why and what,
In order to convince the reader, lets take the start of the statement from the purpose of the study
is to investigate/exam a poorly and randomly constructed statement leads to nothing but a
confused situation. In comparison, a well defined and properly designed statement helps the
researcher to determine specific objectives, identify specific variables and hypothesis
formulation. Last but not the least, the reviewer will not consider your poorly organized research
proposal.
The key parts of a good research problem statement:
1. Always formulate a good answer and good question.
2. Follow top down research moving from general to specific.
3. You must have logical thinking, there can be several alternatives for one problem.
4. A research question must have established a relationship between variables.
5. A hypothesis must be a declaration statement of the relations between one or two more
variables.

Objectives:
Our research question should be relevant to the research problem. The objectives will be specific,
measurable, achievable, realistic, and time-bound.
Research hypothesis;
These ae the assumptions derived from experience, interviews, and related literatures scholars
often call it “educated guess”. It can also be defined as a statement of a problem and exhibiting
relationship between dependent and independent variables e.g. Workplace satisfaction decreases
employee turnover.
Significance of research:
In short, significance of our research we are going to explain have our research will contribute to
the society. What is special and unique in it for the reader? We may also redefine and improvise
the existing knowledge.
Literature review:
It gives us the background and context for research problem. It is a technical process, a
researcher must know how to work and develop literature review coherently. It begins with
finding, managing, using and reviewing the already available resources.
Research Methodology:
Research methodology is the heart of a research proposal. We must be clear about the
methodology whether it is descriptive, exploratory or causal. Another is that you evaluate either
working upon the primary research or secondary research. In fact, it must define the population,
sample size and sampling techniques. The greater the sample size, the more accurate the results
will be.
Data collection:
A researcher is going to adapt or adopt the questionnaire for data collection. After this, he will
run the data in SPSS: ANOVA or Regression analysis.
Theoretical framework:
It not only serves as basis for conducting research but also gives us the important concepts,
theories, models and definitions of terminologies (operationalization).
Conceptual framework:
It is the representation of an abstract idea. After formulating theoretical framework, we develop a
model sort of flowchart with arrows paving the way for direction among independent and
dependent variables.
Limitations/ delimitations:
It includes/excludes geographical boundaries, social, political, ethnic, demographic areas etc. it
identifies the potential weaknesses of the study. Furthermore, it gives a direction to the new
researchers by leaving one variable and encouraging them to work on it.
Outline: it includes chapters, references, citation style whether it is APA style to be followed.
Conclusion:
Let’s conclude the above discussion on a lighter note that a good quality research will take the
researcher to the new heights of success and a poor quality domes the researcher.
