2.8 Synchronising keys with radio remote
control ► 04.00
It becomes necessary to synchronise keys with radio remote con‐
trol when:
♦ New additional keys have been purchased for the vehicle (a
total of up to 4 keys is possible) or defective keys have been
renewed
♦ Radio remote control central locking control unit -J276- has
been replaced
or
♦ The complete lock system has been replaced
Always match the new keys to the immobilizer first ⇒ Electrical
system self-diagnosis; Rep. gr. 01 ; Self-diagnosis of immobilizer
Successful synchronisation of a key supersedes the previous
synchronisation (code) of the other keys.
The whole key set (maximum 4 keys) must therefore be re-
synchronised immediately one after the other.
Note
2. Central locking 43

– Holding the unlock button -1- pressed, press the lock button
-2- three times.
– Release lock -2- button. The warning lamp -3- in the key will
flash five times.
Once the radio receiver has accepted synchronisation of the key,
the vehicle is locked and unlocked again once by the system and
the hazard warning lights are activated accordingly.
After completing the synchronization of a key the other (maximum
of a further three) keys must be synchronised by pressing and
holding the lock button -2- and depressing the unlock button -1-
three times along with the relevant reaction from the system,
within the next 20 seconds for each.
The synchronisation process is terminated when the time limit of
20 seconds is exceeded or the ignition is switched on for at least
5 seconds. If 4 keys are synchronised, the synchronisation proc‐
ess is terminated automatically.

– Remove bolts -1- and remove exterior door handle.
AG.
Note
Perform the adjustment on the rear right wing door in the opened
position. The top and bottom locks should be carefully blocked
using a screwdriver or another suitable tool.
• When actuating the exterior door handle, both door locks must
engage at the same time. If the door locks can be heard to
open at different times, the following described adjustment
must be performed.
– Remove rear right wing door trim ⇒ General body repairs,
interior; Rep. gr. 70 ; Rear right wing door trim
– Unclip ball joint -1- at the lock operating mechanism -2- (figure
shows ball joint for door upper lock).
– Turn ball joint -1- on the operating rod (thread) so that the ef‐
fective length of the operating rod becomes greater or smaller.
• Extending the operating rod “retards” unlocking of the door
lock while shortening it causes “premature” locking.
– Adjust the length of both operating rods so that both door locks
are unlocked reliably and simultaneously.
