Who am I? I am a son, brother, husband, friend, Christian, teacher, coach, life-long learner.
What is my cultural background?
My mother is German, my father is Norwegian.
What family traditions regarding play have been passed
down? My mother and father were both active in sports and activities in high school, but stopped when they went to college to work and receive their education. Both liked to be outside, which has been passed down to me.
What family Christmas traditions have been passed down
from one generation to the next? With my mother, we go to my grandparents house the weekend before Christmas. As a family, we always celebrate on Christmas Eve. We usually go to the Christmas Eve church service, then come home and eat a big meal as a family and enjoy each other’s company. What family traditions have been about the high school years? My parents both went to small schools, my father in Minnesota and my mom in Iowa. Both ended up in Brookings, South Dakota but wanted to have a family in a small town, small school setting, which is how they ended up in Arlington, SD. Both my parents played multiple sports and were involved in extracurriculars, which me and my brother also did.
What family traditions have been passed down from one
generation to the next in the area of marriage and family? We are all members of the Christian church, and are married to someone of the opposite gender.
What other unique family traditions have been passed
down? My mother’s side of the family gathers for an extended weekend in the summer in Okoboji, Iowa. We also enjoy gathering at Lake Poinsett in the summer to spend time as a family. When the weather is nice, we always try to find activities outside.
