COURSE DESCRIPTION
How is technology used to solve business problems and communicate solutions? Business and
Technology is designed to prepare students with the knowledge and skills to be an asset to the
collaborative, global, and innovative business world of today and tomorrow. Mastery use of
spreadsheets and the ability to apply leadership skills to make informed business decisions will
be a highlight of this course for students. Publishing industry appropriate documents to model
effective communication and leadership will be demonstrated through project based learning.
Students will use spreadsheet and database software to manage data while analyzing,
organizing and sharing data through visually appealing presentation.
Various forms of technologies will be used to expose students to resources, software, and
applications of business practices. Professional communication skills and practices, problem-
solving, ethical and legal issues, and the impact of effective presentation skills are enhanced in
this course to prepare students to be college and career ready. Employability skills are
integrated into activities, tasks, and projects throughout the course standards to demonstrate
the skills required by business and industry.
Competencies in the co-curricular student organization, Future Business Leaders of America
(FBLA), are integral components of the employability skills standard for this course. Business
and Technology is the second course in the Business and Technology pathway in the Business
Management and Administration cluster. Students enrolled in this course should have
successfully completed Introduction to Business and Technology. Students are strongly urged to
join FBLA ($25) to benefit from the wealth of opportunities the organization has to offer.
COURSE STANDARDS
BMA-BT-1: Demonstrate employability skills required by business and industry.
BMA-BT-2: Create, edit, and publish industry appropriate documents using technology as a tool to
increase productivity.
BMA-BT-3: Develop organizational communication skills through professional leadership, personal
ethics, and customer/business relationships.
BMA-BT-4: Manage data in spreadsheet software for effective use in a business environment.
BMA-BT-5: Master use of spreadsheet software to analyze, organize and share data from a
spreadsheet while presenting the data visually in a business environment.
BMA-BT-6: Develop creditable research skills to use information from a variety of sources.
BMA-BT-7: Apply skills and strategies for the delivery of effective oral communication and
presentations. Acquire database skills to manage data in a business environment.
BMA-BT-8: Develop personal leadership skills to work on teams, teach others, serve customers, lead,
negotiate, and work effectively and efficiently in a business environment.
BMA-BT-9 Explore how related student organizations are integral parts of career and technology
education courses through leadership development, school and community service projects,
entrepreneurship development, and competitive events.

Cell Phone (Charging Station Policy):
Students agree to NOT use their cell phones while in class, students will be given the
opportunity to use the Charging Station in class, and the rules for the station are listed below, and
are posted in the classroom. The student will be given a warning the first time he/she is seen on
his/her phone during class, the 2nd time will result in parental contact. If the student continues to
use his/her phone, the teacher has the choice on taking the charging station privileges away from
the student and the student will receive an office referral.
•The charging station is a privilege.
•Place your phone on SILENT while charging.
•Your phone must remain in the charging area for the entire class period.
•You must bring YOUR OWN charger.
•DO NOT disturb the class to retrieve your device from the charging station.
•You must charge your phone before the tardy bell rings.
•You ARE responsible for keeping any eye on your device while it is charging.
•You can pick up your phone when the bell rings to dismiss class.
•Please keep your hands off devices that do not belong to you!

 
MAINTAINING CLASSROOM: Food and drinks (including water, candy and gum) are prohibited in
the classroom. We are in a computer lab and must do our best to preserve the classroom equipment at all
times.

Academic Integrity: Students are expected to model the academic integrity policy as defined in the
Eastside High School Academic Integrity Standard found in the student handbook. This is especially
important relative to use of materials found on the internet.
Discipline Procedures
Step 1- 1st offense: Verbal warning
Step 2- 2nd offence: Student/Teacher conference
Step 3- 3rd offence: Phone call home
Step 3- 4th offence: Administrative referral
 This may be modified depending on the severity of the offence

Make-Up Policy
It is the responsibility of the student to request make up work within five (5) days after an
excused absence. Make-up work must be completed before or after all current class work has
been completed. If a student does not complete an assignment during class time, the student
should initiate before or after school arrangements with the teacher to finish BEFORE THE DUE
DATE of the assignment. All work must be completed prior to the end of each 4 ½ week grading
period. Assignments not made up during the allotted time will receive a grade of zero (0).
If you are absent on the due date of a project or long term assignment that you were aware of
prior to the absence, you will be expected to submit the assignment on the first day of your
return,
Should an assignment/test be scheduled for the day on the day you return from an absence and
notice was given before your absence, you are expected to be prepared at the scheduled time.
Computer & Technology Usage
Adherence to the established computer usage policy is required. Refer to the Student/Parent
Handbook for full details.
Parent Conferences
Parents are encouraged to join me in establishing and maintaining an open line of
communication in support of their child and opportunities for success offered through learning
experiences here at Eastside High School. Please feel free to contact me or request conferences
through the Guidance Department regarding your child’s academic progress/behavior. Likewise,
I will contact you if I feel there is a need to discuss your child’s academic progress/behavior. My
office number is 770-784-2920 ext. 4351, however, I am more accessible via email. My email
