BASIC FUNCTION

To provide leadership and technical guidance for the identification, planning and execution of
plant maintenance and engineering programs consistent with sound engineering practices and
company policies so the plant facility will operate without interruption and will meet its
production objectives.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES

• Manage skilled trades; maintenance.


• Assures all plant facilities, equipment and molds are maintained at optimum levels related to
the skilled trades staff and supports continuous improvement projects in order to provide
uninterrupted service and maximum output so the plant will be in a position to meet its
production objectives and shipping requirements.
• Continuously monitor new technologies to ensure systems achieve maximum efficiency and
sustainability goals.
• Insure plant maintenance and engineering projects are completed within the economic cost
standards established, all of which contribute to the plant’s profitability.
• Manage new equipment and engineering activities as it relates to plant systems.
• Manage and coordinate internal and external engineering resources on plant and system
maintenance and upgrades including ownership of tool crib and all spare parts.
• Account for the development, discipline, and safety of engineering and maintenance
personnel so plant programs can be accomplished efficiently, economically, and safely and
in line with overall maintenance, engineering, and plant objectives.
• Provide planning input and coordination with Kohler corporate engineering, staff engineering
or outside engineering firms to see that facility expansion meets division production
requirements.
• Accountable for key input to facilities expansion requirements, both as to type of equipment
and timing of construction.
• Trained on all applicable SOPs, LOPs, policies, and procedures.

RELATIONSHIPS AND CONTACTS

Supervisory Relationships:
• Reports to Plant Manager, Huntsville

Organization Relationships:
• Supervises 2 plant engineers, 1 general supervisor, 4 supervisors/team leaders, 4
automation/controls technicians, 24 skilled maintenance associates, 2 lubrication
technicians, and various outside contractors.

External Relationships:
• Frequent contact with vendors/suppliers regarding design, material specifications, tooling
considerations, and component specifications. Investigate new products, processes, and
materials for process improvements.

• Occasional contact with outside consultants regarding technical product design and
development beyond in-house capabilities or resource limitations.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

Bachelor’s degree in related field. Twelve or more years of work experience or advanced
technical degree with 10 or more years work experience in a manufacturing operation.
Recognized achievement and technical expertise within a professional field or posses in-depth,
applied experience in multiple engineering specialties.
• Good communication and organizational skills.
• Ability to control costs and plan budgets.
• Ability to motivate, energize, influence and develop subordinates.
