Also the table for the flow rate in every main sanitary fitting inside building is used. This table
is obtained for the International Plumbing Code:
The values of the drainage volume for every discharge are calculated using the flow rate and
the estimated time of discharge for every main sanitary fitting. The resultant figures are the
following ones:
c) Water closet flush valve 1.58 l/s during 4 seconds.
d) Urinal , valve 0.76 l/s during 4 seconds
e) Lavatory 0.13 l/s during 5 seconds
f) Ablution 0.13 l/s during 20 seconds
With these figures and the daily frequency of uses for every sanitary fitting (included in
Employer’s requirements), the estimated daily volume of domestic water for QU Station has
been obtained
These values have been calculated using the next equation (for example for the WC
calculation):
WC average flow (l/day) = (12 discharges / h * 4 hours + 6 discharges / h * 16 hours) *
14 water closets *1.58 l/s * 4 s = 12741.12 liters / day
For the other sanitary fixtures the same method has been used.
It has been considered a 10% of security coefficient.
Based on this, the daily water demand will be 25 m³ for one day.
According to Kahramaa regulations, the storage tank shall be for 48 hours of water demand.
Therefore the volume the tank for domestic water uses will be of 50 m³.
Irrigation water uses
The irrigation water consumption has been calculated due regard to the green zones and the
trees considered in the landscaping project.
According to Branding Manual C0-ABM-0-002-H3 – Schedules - v1.0, the flows of water
considered are the following:
- Water for green zones: 12 l/m2/day
- Water for trees: 80l/tree/day
The storage tank shall be for 24 hours of water irrigation demand. Therefore the volume the
tank for irrigation water uses will be of 40 m³, (besides it has been considered 50 m³ for
domestic uses). The total water volume of the tank is 90 m³.
4.2.3 Conclusions
There will be a common Service Connection for both supplies (plumbing and firefighting uses).
A simultaneous filling of the tanks is not considered. Then, the most critical filling will be from
the firefighting water tank.
Therefore, the final value for required water flow from Kahramma will be 22.22 l/s (1333 l/min).
The material for the Service Connection will be Medium Density Polyethylene MDPE, PE-80,
SDR11 PN 12.5 bar with Nominal Diameter of 160 mm..
The velocity and pressure losses for this pipe are the following ones:

The conclusion for the necessary conditions of domestic water and firefighting service
connection for QU is shown below:

The indications of Employer’s requirements have been used also. The next table show its:
Therefore, the Water Supply Fixture Units assigned to the sanitary fixtures of the Station QU
are shown in the following table:
The next tables show the calculated simultaneous water flow, pipe diameters and the water
velocity in all the branches of the Cold Water system inside the station.

For the pressure losses in fittings, the table E103.3(6) has been used.
The most unfavorable pipeline route is for CL-HVAC-3 water supply. Then, the pressure
calculated in this table has been considered.
Therefore, the Flow and Head for the Booster Pumps equipment will be the following:
a) Flow Rate 7.8 l/s
b) Head 48 w.c.m.

5.3.1 Calculations
The trackway drainage is calculated to drain the water flow from an eventually failure or use of
one Hose Connection or pipe for the Standpipe system (Fire Fighting installation). According
NFPA 14, the water flow for one Hose Connection of Class I is 948 l/min (15.8 l/s)
On the other hand, two floor drains will be installed in trackway structure between every axes
pair of the station. Then if there is a break or an unusual use of the standpipe or hose
connection, the water flow of 948 l/min will be splitted to the 2 floor drains of every axes pair.
Therefore, every floor drain and its horizontal branch will be designed to drain 474 l/min (7.9
l/s).
The next calculation shows the capacity of a horizontal pipe of ND 125:
Every floor drain will have a ND 125 horizontal connection to drain until 7.90 l/s with a slope of
1%. Then, the two floor drains can be able to drain 15.8 l/s. The horizontal pipe for two floor
drains will be ND 150 mm with a slope of 1.5%.
The trackway drainage is calculated to drain the water flow from an eventually failure or use of
one Hose Connection or pipe for the Standpipe system (Fire Fighting installation). According
NFPA 14, the water flow for one Hose Connection of Class I is 948 l/min
5.4.1 Methodology
As it has been stated above, Mannings’s Equation has been used to check that the pipe
system meets the standards requirements. It’s an empirical formula for uniform flow in open
channels. Manning’s Equation is:
1 /
Where:
n is Manning’s roughness coefficient s/[m1/3]
S0 is bed slope (m/m)
R is the hydraulic radius of the flow (m)

Permeability
Considering the available geotechnical data up to now, the permeability tests carried out for
sections 10A and 11 have been analyzed for this area. A total number of 9 tests have been
performed in these sections. All of them have been executed at a depth lower than 10 m, and
the permeability coefficient ranges from 2.33E-09 m/s to 1.10E-05 m/s, with an average value
of 4.5E-06 m/s which can be assumed as the design parameter.
Drainage area
The station drainage area considered includes only the station itself.

Methodology
The infiltration trenches have been designed according to Bre Digest 365 (reference used in
QSDDM)
The design method for sizing a infiltration trench is based upon the equation of volumes:
I–O=S
where:
I = the inflow from the area drained to the infiltration trench;
O = the outflow infiltrating into the soil during rainfall;
S = the required storage in the soakaway to balance temporarily inflow and outflow.
Outflow from the infiltration trench
O = as50 x f x D
