THE RIZAL LAW AND THE CATHOLIC HIERARCHY

Topic/Lesson

A. List down 3 concepts that you do not understand well

1. The Rizal Law
2. The Catholic Hierarchy
3. Stand of Rizal on the church

B. Three new things I learned after reading this article

About Understanding History:
I used to think

That the Rizal bill was not that important to our system as a Filipino. That it is already
forgotten by us, the Filipinos and we now only believe in our modern system of life.

After reading the Article

I now think

That I was wrong. Knowing the life and works of Rizal can really change a Filipino’s
perspective of living. It can open your eyes to the reality of the world being blinded by the
modern system that is currently being used as the norm for a person’s living. Noli Me Tangere
and El Filibusterismo are Rizal’s way of making us look at the past on how our conquerors treat
us 333 years ago and to make us realize that the system that we are having right now is the
system that is not really for us. The Rizal law is the truth of being a Filipino. Catholic churches
are afraid of it because they might lose the faith of every Filipino that they have been
manipulating through religious ways and also because they might end up being forgotten.

I used to think

That Catholic Churches are the basis of truth when it comes to faith. That they don’t
keep secrets from the people.

I now think

That they have secrets that they don’t want the people to know. Because, in my opinion,
why believe such idea that the people that will read Rizal’s works will soon be against the
church?

It only means that they don’t want the person who will read the novels to know their secrets after
all. Secrets that they’ve been keeping for years just to maintain the position of the church in the
society. And lastly, even if the people will be able to read Rizal’s novels, its still their choice on
what to believe. Its just that we all Filipinos deserve to know the story of Rizal. His side on the
historical era of the Spaniards.

C. Three Questions:
1. What’s the real deal between The Rizal bill and the Catholic Hierarchy?
2. How are we able to know the life and works of Rizal if the church is against it?
3. Why is it that church believers think negatively of Rizal’s works for they are also Filipinos?
