Overview
PI ProcessBook is a graphics package that allows users to create dynamic,
interactive trends featuring real-time PI data. Data can be viewed from multiple
sources, such as relational databases that expose ODBC compliant interfaces, or AF
2.x data. Additionally, PI ProcessBook provides tools for analyzing data on the
display and incorporates Microsoft Visual Basic for Applications (VBA), so that
special activities or routine chores can be automated.
This version of PI ProcessBook provides the following enhancements:
 Element relative displays (ERDs) can be created using AF elements that
switch data context within a given display. This functionality supplements
the module relative display (MRD) add-in from previous releases. If the
Asset subsystem of the PI Server has been used to migrate the Module
Database to an AF database, then existing MRD displays will
automatically be upgraded to use the appropriate AF elements by the
ERD add-in if the MRD add-in is uninstalled.
 New collaboration features allow you to communicate with other users
from within PI ProcessBook. A list of subscribers to a PI Notification can
be listed and contacted using Office Communicator (version 2005 or
2007). Using the Communicator technology, a user can email, instant
message or see a phone number for Contacts. The specific features are
dependent on the Communicator version and configuration. In addition, a
screen capture of the active display can be taken and emailed in one step
using the Contact list, using Microsoft Outlook. The collaboration
functionality requires that Office Communicator is installed on your
computer and you are logged in to it.
 A new toolbar to navigate recently opened and bookmarked displays is
provided. This toolbar provides a familiar browsing experience and
reduces the time spent searching for a recently used display. The forward
and backward browsing feature retains the list of opened files from the
currently open session of PI ProcessBook, but the bookmark manager
provides a permanent listing of frequently used displays.
 Playback functionality has been added to support users who troubleshoot
problems by replaying events. A toolbar provides the ability to playback a
time period within a display. This feature helps you analyze conditions in
a plant during a specific time frame.
 The Statistical Quality Control (SQC) symbol has been fully incorporated
into PI ProcessBook as a native symbol. In addition, a new Sigma
estimation method based on standard deviation has been provided in the
symbol.
Please read the online help for additional information on these topics.

ProcessBook

Note: PLIs with an * have been addressed in the new Element Relative Display add-in
although they were reported against the Module Relative Display add-in.

Enhancements

 AF Dataset
Enumeration sets are now handled like digital tags. This means that every
enumeration value is associated with a distinct integer value which does not change
over time. This provides consistent dynamic symbol display whenever a display is
opened. Previously, enumeration sets were treated as string tags. This meant that
each value returned from the enumeration set was assigned a new value and could
provide different results depending on when a display is opened.
 Display Navigation
A Browser style navigation toolbar provides features to navigate backwards and
forwards through displays in a manner similar to web browsers. An address bar is
also provided to either open previously viewed displays or browse to a different
display. Bookmarks are supported on a per-user basis and the bookmarks can be
organized and shared among users. Please see the Help file for additional
information.
 Element Relative Displays
Module Relative Displays (MRD) are now supplemented with Element Relative
Displays (ERD). Existing MRD displays are automatically converted to ERD displays
when a PI system administrator has migrated the Module database to an AF
database and the MRD add-in has been uninstalled. New ERD displays can be
created without the need of an existing MRD display. Please see the Help file for
additional information.
Note that zoom areas and trend cursors are reverted/lost when switching between
Elements.
It is recommended that you turn off the recursive search feature of the Filter control
in the Elements of Interest docking window. This is done by un-checking the Include
Children option of the Filter accessible by clicking the down arrow next to the
magnifying glass in the Filter control. This is especially important if your Elements of
Interest have extensive sub-elements.
Also note that the Datasheet Control (version 2.0.1 and earlier) and the PI BatchView
symbol (version 3.1.4 and earlier) cannot be used with the Element Relative Display
add-in (not even if the Module database has been migrated to the AF database).
These two products have specific handling dependent on the Module database.
These two components work normally in PI ProcessBook 3.2 as long as there is no
attempt to use the Element Relative Display configuration.

4
 Module Relative Displays
Module Relative Displays (MRD) continue to work in PI ProcessBook 3.2 with the
exception of creating new MRD displays. New MRD displays can only use Module
databases from non-migrated PI Servers. Once a Module database has been
migrated to an AF database it is omitted from the Available Modules tree when
creating a new MRD display. Combining Module Relative Display references and
Element Relative Display references on the same display is not recommended or
supported.

 PI Notifications Add-In
PI ProcessBook version 3.2 includes support for user presence through Office
Communications Server 2007 and the Unified Communications Client API. This
allows users to communicate and collaborate with other users from within PI
ProcessBook (without having to launch a separate application). A new Contacts
docking window is available that not only shows the set of available contacts
available through Office Communicator but also a list of subscribers to a notification
in escalation order. The Help file has more information on using this functionality.
The Contacts docking window not only allows Instant Messaging (IM) but the ability
to send an image of the active display through e-mail.
Note that Office Communicator 2005 or 2007 must be on the machine for this
functionality to be present. In addition, the Microsoft Outlook XP or later client must
be on the machine for the ability to send e-mail through this add-in.
 Playback
This feature provides a mechanism to playback a specific time period on the active
display. In addition, the display time range control inside of the playback toolbar can
be used to set the display range of all symbols in the active display. Please see the
Help file for additional information.
Note that zoom areas and trend cursors are reverted/lost when a display is being
played back.
 SQC Symbol
The PI SQC symbol is now included with PI ProcessBook, a separate license is no
longer required.
PI SQC 3.2.0.0 provides users with a choice of sigma estimation method for
Individuals, X-Bar and Moving Average Shewhart charts. Currently sigma is
estimated using the moving range calculation method. An alternative and statistically
acceptable method is the actual calculation of the process standard deviation. Also,
on the legend the standard deviation, STDEV, statistic is now replaced by the Sigma
value.
 Symbol Library
The Data Center category has been added to the Symbol Library.

Known Issues
This section lists problems and enhancements that have been deferred until a future
release.

5
 The Data Sheet Control versions 1.0 and 2.0 are incompatible with PI
ProcessBook 3.2.
 PI ProcessBook does not support MFC-based ActiveX controls created with
Microsoft Visual Studio 2005. ActiveX controls created with Visual Studio
2005 should be based on ATL or should override
COleControl::OnSetObjectRects in ctlinplc.cpp with a version based on MFC
version 7.
Note that once a Module Relative Display is upgraded to an Element Relative
Display, the display will not show data for Element Relative dynamic symbols in
versions of PI ProcessBook prior to 3.2.

 AF Dataset
Punch List Item Description
SCR 26637 If an AF attribute accesses a PI tag that is on a PI
Server but the PI Server is not in the Known
Servers Table, the attribute will report that the
server could not be found. The PI Server should
be entered into the Known Servers Table and PI
ProcessBook restarted.
SCR 26637 PI ProcessBook dynamic symbols receive data
from PI tags on an exception (push from the PI
Server) basis. Dynamic symbols configured with
the AF dataset retrieve data on a pull (from the
AF SDK) basis. This can result in data returned
from the dataset with slightly different
timestamps, due to the timing of the pull request,
which can lead to a situation where dynamic
symbols configured with element attributes
configured to access PI tags do not exactly
match the values displayed from dynamic
symbols configured directly with the same PI tag.
SCR 26561 If an attribute of an element accesses a server
that requires a password the PI Server must be
connected to show data for the attribute.

 Automation
Punch List Item Description
Font SCR 17474 The Font object (Dim myFont as Font) is changed
to IDualFont in all automation calls. This is due to
the PI ProcessBook Font object conflicting with a
Microsoft Font object.
Object Creation SCR 17474 The VBA menu items can become disabled when
creating an object in VBA (CreateObject()). This
currently happens when creating a WebBrowser
object. To re-enable the VBA menu items, show
PI ProcessBook and click on a PI ProcessBook
menu item.

6
Punch List Item Description
Time SCR 17474 PI ProcessBook 3.0 and higher returns sub-
seconds as part of a date string. The “Date”
datatype in VBA does not recognize sub-
seconds. As a result, assigning a date string to
the “Date” datatype in VBA results in the
following error message -“Run-time error „13‟:
Type Mismatch”.
The following example demonstrates this error:
Sub Sub_Second_Date()
Dim dt As Date
Trend1.CurrentCursor = 1
dt = Trend1.CursorTime
End Sub

Use the following workaround:

Sub Sub_Second_Date()
Dim dt As Date
Dim TmFmt As New PITimeFormat
Trend1.CurrentCursor = 1
TmFmt.InputString = Trend1.CursorTime
dt = TmFmt.LocalDate
End Sub

 Datasets
Punch List Item Description
SCR 26618 If a display has dynamic symbols that are using a
custom dataset, and the custom dataset is
removed, the dynamic symbols do not update.
The display must be refreshed to show BAD
DATA. If the dataset is reloaded, the display must
be reverted to obtain new data.
SCR 26619 When tags are renamed on a PI server, datasets
using those PI tags are not able to resolve the
renamed tag when the display is opened.
Symbols using these datasets show "No Data".
The datasets must be redefined with the new tag
name manually.
SCR 26620 PI ProcessBook does not support leading and/or
trailing spaces in the name of the Value column
of a PI Expression dataset. In addition, a server
name must be specified when creating a PI
Expression dataset through automation.
SCR 24308 Text from the Microsoft Windows Clipboard
should not be pasted into the Value Column
Name field of the PI Calculation Data dialog
window. It is possible to paste invisible,
unsupported characters this way, which cause
errors in processing the column name. Type the
column name using the keyboard instead.

7
 Details Add-in
Punch List Item Description
SCR 25894 The Details window does not support dataset
names that look like tag names, e.g.
\\server\tagname.
SCR 26621 Times displayed in the add-in for SQC control
limits always use the client's time zone.
SCR 26622 The Details add-in does not support showing Y
tags with duplicate data sources for an XY Plot
symbol. Only one entry for each unique Y tag
name is shown in the data source drop-down list.
However, selecting Show All from the add-in's
data source list shows results for each tag
including duplicates.
SCR 26622 The Details add-in does not update to reflect
reverting or changing the end time of Value, Bar,
and Multi-State symbols.
SCR 25815 When a display is configured to use the PI server
time zone, the add-in displays time data for an
XY Plot symbol using the X tag's PI Server time
zone.
SCR 26622 Value, bar and multi-state symbols only show
one value in the Details window when they are
configured with a dataset.
SCR 26622 Module Context tags are always displayed in the
client time zone within the Details add-in.
SCR 26259 The add-in does not respond to module context
switches when using Module Relative displays
with Value, Bar, and Multi-State symbols. Once a
new module is selected, the "refresh data" button
on the add-in should be selected to refresh the
view of data.
SCR 25864 PI Servers 3.4 or higher should be used for
annotations, otherwise, it is possible that an
annotated event will not only be marked as
annotated but also marked as substituted.
SCR 25865 The add-in only supports the last selected
symbol, so if all symbols are selected, e.g., using
Select All, only the last selected symbol is shown
in the add-in window.
SCR 26315 Dropping a cursor on a trend with two traces in
different time zones that are configured to use
absolute timestamps with a display set to server
time can result in an incorrect highlighting of the
corresponding event in the Details window.
SCR 26315 Pressing the Revert button on the details add-in
when there are multiple traces on a trend from
different time zones may also lead to incorrect
highlighting.
SCR 26218 PI ProcessBook must be restarted if the Regional
Options are changed in order to ensure the
Details add-in operates correctly.

8
Punch List Item Description
SCR 26315 If a trend with multiple tags from different time
zones is selected and the show all option is used
for the details window, the timestamps displayed
could be adjusted to the wrong time zone.
SCR 26947 The Details add-in needs to be restarted using
the Tools | Add-In Manger... menu item when the
Data option stops showing data. Select the
Details item from the Available Add-Ins list and
uncheck and then re-check the Loaded/Unloaded
checkbox.

 Docking Windows
Punch List Item Description
SCR 26770 PI ProcessBook‟s unpinned docking windows
may not dock as expected on secondary displays
on multiple monitor systems. This is true on only
those screens aligned above or to the left of
Windows' primary display. The tab shown for
unpinned windows can appear pushed over by
other pinned windows. It's recommended to
either keep all docking windows pinned or
unpinned when running ProcessBook on these
secondary displays.

 Drag and Drop

Punch List Item Description
SCR 27502 When a symbol is drag and dropped onto a
Microsoft Word document, the symbol appears
much larger than in a PI ProcessBook display.
Instead of dragging a symbol, use Copy and
Paste to provide a properly sized symbol.

 Element Relative Display

Punch List Item Description
SCR 29006 When a Trend Display is created from a relatively
configured dynamic symbol. e.g. Element
Relative Display, the context information is not
copied from the Element Relative Display to the
Trend Display. This causes any dynamic symbols
configured to display the current context to show
as NO DATA on the Trend Display. Relative tags
will continue to update on the Trend Display. If
the Trend Display is saved and reopened,
dynamic symbols configured relatively will show
NO DATA because the saved Trend Display has
no contexts associated with it.

9
 File/Button Links
Punch List Item Description
SCR 26623 To ensure file compatibility concerning file/button
links between PI ProcessBook 3.0.15.x and PI
ProcessBook 3.1, files should not be moved from
their original location when the link relies on an
absolute (c:\<filename>) reference to a file. If the
source and target files must be moved, and the
file must be updated, then the file should only be
opened in PI ProcessBook 3.1 or higher from that
point forward.
SCR 26623 Vista does not properly handle OS command
links specifying a working folder. For example, if
a link is configured to open MS Explorer with a
working directory other than the users default
directory, the working folder is ignored and MS
Explorer opens using the default and not working
directory.
SCR 26623 Opening displays with links created in earlier
versions of PI ProcessBook in v3.1 automatically
recalculates the absolute and relative paths to
links. This causes problems if the links are OS
commands with paths that use spaces that are
not enclosed in quotes (“). In this case, version
3.1 truncates the OS command at the first space
encountered after the working directory path is
traversed and the link is likely to fail. To avoid this
problem, either add the quotes to the link
definition before opening the display in version
3.1 or add the quotes in the link definition in
version 3.1.
SCR 26623 Links using OS commands should either be
defined using an absolute path or by including a
Working Folder that is a valid DOS path (e.g.,
Z:\MyFolder\ or C:\SubDirectory\) where the
target can be successfully found. Relative paths
(such as .\MyFolder), UNC paths (such as
\\MyServer\MyFolder), or URL paths (e.g.,
http://MyServer/MyDirectory/) have no effect
when entered in the Working Folder field
because Windows does not support using these
types of path to set the active directory.
SCR 25608 If an OS command link supplies an absolute path
to a file that is incorrect, PI ProcessBook does
not attempt to resolve the true location of the file
and displays an error message stating that the
Action failed to execute.
SCR 19070 When an invalid Action is set for a
ButtonDefinition or Entry object through
automation, no error message is provided.
SCR 19070 Relative actions are not finalized until the display
or workbook is saved for the first time. No error
message is displayed if the relative action is
invalid after saving.

10
Punch List Item Description
SCR 19070 Displays containing button links that were
originally created in PI ProcessBook 2.x versions
and saved in 3.0.x may not work as expected in
PI ProcessBook 3.1, due to problems with the
earlier versions. It is recommended that those 2.x
version displays are opened directly in 3.1
without opening or saving them in 3.0.x versions.
SCR 19070 Button links created or modified using PI
ProcessBook 3.1 should not be modified in
earlier versions of PI ProcessBook. Any
modifications to the link are lost when re-opened
in PI ProcessBook 3.1.
SCR 26617 Files created in PI ProcessBook 2.11 that are
upgraded to 3.0.15.9 that contain standalone file
links (<path to
display>\DISPLAY:DISPLAY.PDI) or embedded
display links (<path to
procbook>\PROCBOOK:DISPLAY) do not work
correctly in PI ProcessBook 3.1. The following
VBA code can be used to fix the links:
Dim oButton as Button
Dim oButtonDefinition as ButtonDefinition

Set oButton = Symbols(“<Button object

name>”)
Set oButtonDefinition =
oButton.GetDefinition

If oButtonDefinition.Action = “” Then ‘ if the

action property is blank
oButtonDefinition.Action = “<path
to the target>”
oButton.SetDefinition
oButtonDefinition ‘ set modified definition
back to the button
End If

 File Open/Save
Punch List Item Description
SCR 26624 In Windows 2003, Vista and 2008 you cannot
browse to an http or ftp location. Instead, to open
a file through the Open dialog, type in a fully
qualified path, e.g. http://servername/display.pdi.

11
Punch List Item Description
SCR 26624 In Windows 2003, Vista and 2008 typing a full
path to a sub-folder of a shared folder, for
example "\\server\share\subfolder", will not
update the list of files in dialog. Entering a path
without the subfolder name will work as
expected. Adding a backslash to the end of the
path updates the file list, e.g.
"\\server\share\subfolder\".
SCR 26624 In Windows 2003, Vista and 2008 typing a full
path to a sub-folder of a shared folder that
includes wildcards, for example "c:\files\*.pdi"
does not return a list of files. To work aroud this
issue, first type the target folder, for example
"c:\files", and press enter. Once the dialog shows
the contents of that folder enter the wildcard, in
the previous example it would be "*.pdi".
SCR 26625 In the SaveAs dialog, you cannot browse to an
http or ftp location. Instead, to save a file to an
http or ftp location, type in a fully qualified path,
e.g. http://servername/display.pdi.
SCR 26625 A file's extension cannot be set to # or !.
SCR 26625 Using a file name that contains a question mark
(?) may cause ProcessBook to hang when
running the application on Windows Vista.
SCR 26781 Files cannot be saved on an http, https or ftp
server from a Vista machine.
SCR 27558 Entering a fileserver name without a share name,
e.g. \\myFileServer, in a File Open dialog on
Microsoft Windows 2008 or Vista displays an
error message containing the text "No such
interface supported". You must add a share
name in addition to the fileserver name, e.g.
\\myFileServer\myShare, to browse files on the
share.

 Localized and Regional Settings

Punch List Item Description
SCR 18985 Changes to the negative number format in the
Regional and Language Options Control Panel
applet are ignored by PI ProcessBook.
SCR 26627 PI ProcessBook does not support the space
character as a time separator.
SCR 26627 In Regional Options, if the "Standards and
Formats" value (also known as user locale) does
not match the "Language for non-Unicode
programs" setting (also known as system locale)
for a non-Western character set then characters
may not display properly in PI ProcessBook 3.1.

12
 Module Relative Display
Punch List Item Description
SCR 26559 If an alias in a Module Relative Display accesses
a server that requires a password, the PI Server
must be connected to show data for the alias.

 PI BatchView
Punch List Item Description
SCR 27635 If PI ProcessBook 3.1, PI ActiveView 3.1 and PI
BatchView 3.1 (or lower for PI BatchView) are
installed and PI ActiveView 3.1 is uninstalled,
then PI BatchView must first be repaired and
then PI ProcessBook 3.1 must be repaired next
to restore PI BatchView functionality in PI
ProcessBook.

 PI Notifications
Punch List Item Description
SCR 22718 The PI Notifications add-in shows notifications for
the default PI System configured at the time the
add-in is loaded. The PI System selected is
immutable once loaded. Changing the default PI
System in another application such as PI System
Explorer does not update the view in the add-in
until the add-in is reloaded.

 PI Properties
Punch List Item Description
SCR 25799 When viewing the PI Properties tab for a PIW or
PDI file under Windows Explorer, the information
displayed is inaccurate until the file has been
saved in PI ProcessBook 3.1 once. PIW files
always show 0 for "Number of Scripts" even after
being saved in PI ProcessBook 3.1.

 Playback
Punch List Item Description
SCR 29185 Playback must be stopped for a maximized SQC
or Batch symbol to be restored to its original
state.

13
 Setup
Punch List Item Description
SCR 26630 PI ProcessBook may show a message stating
"Please wait while Windows configures Microsoft
Office Professional Plus 2007" during the first run
of PI ProcessBook, if Microsoft Office 2007 is
installed, but has not yet been configured.
SCR 27443 Users who desire to maintain any toolbar
changes made in 2.x can restore these settings
after upgrading. The 2.x toolbar customizations
are maintained in a file named
PBToolbarConfig.ini located under the Windows
user's ProcessBook Application Data folder. This
file from 2.x will normally be located in
c:\Documents and Settings\username\Application
Data\PISystem\PI-ProcessBook in Windows XP.
In Windows Vista under c:\Users\username\
Application Data\PISystem\PI-ProcessBook.
Manually copying this file into the language sub
folder (EN for English systems) will restore any
customized menus and toolbars from 2.x.
Toolbars positions will not match 100% from 2.x
and will have to manually be repositioned when
running ProcessBook the first time after copying
the file.
If at all possible it is recommended to manually
re-customize the toolbars and menus inside
ProcessBook 3.1 and not import settings from 2.x
as detailed above.

 Server Management
Punch List Item Description
SCR 26631 A display should be reverted if a PI Server used
by the display is manually disconnected and
reconnected using the Connections dialog so that
data updates are received.
SCR 27091 An error dialog can appear when creating a
dynamic symbol if the default server requires a
password. This only occurs the first time the
default server is connected. Acknowledging the
error dialog box allows you to continue to enter a
password and configure the dynamic symbol.
SCR 27268 A Select New Node dialog is shown even when
PI Servers are automatically added by the PI
SDK when the new PI Server is accessed by a
placeholder in a dataset.
SCR 27285 Displays created with versions of PI ProcessBook
prior to 3.0.x continue to show the "Select New
Node" dialog even when the "Automatically add
unknown servers" checkbox is enabled in the "PI
Connection Manager" "Connection Options"
dialog. This is because the PI Server name was
not stored in those earlier versions.

14
 SQC
Punch List Item Description
Backward Compatibility In order for a PI ProcessBook add-in that uses PI
SQC 1.14 to remain backward compatible when
built against PI ProcessBook 3.1.1.0 or PI
ProcessBook 3.2.0.0, the add-in must reference
the PI SQC 1.14 type library.
Data Favorites Add-In The Data Favorites Add-in does not support SQC
symbol creation or addition of PI tags to the
symbol.
Data Filtering When a filter equation is defined with "Keep Bad
Values" and the sigma calculation data filter is
turned off, the range calculation skips bad values
and restarts the range calculation on the next
good value.
PI Notifications Add-In Applying a time range from a PI Notification to a
display containing an SQC symbol may render an
invalid Shewhart chart due to a statistically
insignificant sample size.
Server Name Resolution The PI SDK option to automatically add an
unknown server is not honored by PI SQC.
Playback Limitation The PlayBack Tool Bar applies a time range
within a playback period to all symbols on the
display. The time range will override a SQC
symbol definition with a start time of "Trigger Tag"
or "N Samples Before Time'. If a narrow display
range yields an insignificant sample size than the
messages "Not enough samples" or "Data query
failed" will show on the Shewhart chart. Reverting
the display will return the SQC symbol to the
initial definition.
AF2 Dataset Limitation Alarm tag PI Point attributes are not available for
an AF element's attribute whose data reference is
an RT-SQC Alarm Point.
SCR 26637 PI ProcessBook dynamic symbols receive data
from PI tags on an exception (push from the PI
Server) basis. Dynamic symbols configured with
the AF dataset retrieve data on a pull (from the
AF SDK) basis. This can result in interpreted data
returned from the dataset which could lead to a
situation where dynamic symbols configured with
element attributes configured to access PI tags
do not exactly match the values displayed from
dynamic symbols configured with the same PI
tag.
SCR 27191 The AF Data Set Add-In works with the SQC
symbol with the following constraint: The "N
samples before end time" query is evaluated only
within an eight hour period.
SCR 27192 The AF Modeler Add-In works with the SQC
symbol with the following constraints: 1) The "N
samples before end time" query is evaluated only
within an eight hour period. 2) When the AF
attribute points to a fast updating PI tag, some
snapshot values may be lost.

15
Punch List Item Description
SCR 26621 Times displayed in the Details add-in for SQC
control limits always use the client's time zone.

The Details Add-In does not support server time

zones for Expression, Summary, and Custom
datasets within SQC symbols. Times are
displayed in the client time zone. Cursors
dropped on the chart do not highlight the
corresponding row in the details data grid.

SCR 26266 On the aggregate Shewhart charts, the trend

cursor does not match the value in the raw data
grid because many raw points are used to
calculate the plotted point value. In the plot data
grid the cursor does not work at all.
SCR 27193 When the SQC chart is in zoom mode, the
Details Add-In data grid displays all chart data.
SCR 26493 The center line edges are not drawn at step
changes for SQC charts using a center line
defined by a PI Tag that is stepped.
SCR 21369 Problems when updating over long time periods
for moving average, moving range and moving
standard deviation chart types
SCR 27644 The time range control is not applied to SQC
symbols when more than one SQC or trend
symbol is selected.
SCR 23325 The time scroll, pan one period forward and pan
one period backward controls do not work
properly when a trigger tag is defined as the start
time of the SQC symbol.
SCR 15947 The following undo operations are not functioning
for SQC: Undo Scroll Time, Undo Time Range
and Undo Revert.

 Status Bar
Punch List Item Description
SCR 27509 It is possible that the entire status bar is not
visible when using PI ProcessBook on a multi-
display Citrix system. Resizing the PI
ProcessBook application window across the
monitors exposes the status bar.

 ToolTip Statistics Add-In

Punch List Item Description
SCR 26634 Statistics for XY Plot symbols are shown when
the symbol is configured to show the server and
tag name in the legend. If the server or tagname
is not in the legend, statistics are not shown.

16
Punch List Item Description
SCR 26634 Tooltips shown on Trends and XY Plots at the
intersection point of many different tags can
create very large tooltips that may not fit optimally
on the screen. Under certain circumstances, this
can cause the tip to repeatedly flash on and off. A
workaround is to reconfigure tooltip statistics or
completely disable Tooltip Statistics.
SCR 27555 Preference changes made to the Tooltips
Statistics add-in are not saved when an English
version of PI ProcessBook is run on a non-
English operating system.
SCR 27556 If a trend is configured with traces from different
time zones the statistics shown in the tooltip for a
trace that is in a different time zone than the first
trace will be incorrect if the time range of the
trend is changed at run time.

 Trend
Punch List Item Description
SCR 26635 Trace rendering issues have been seen in which
the plot markers do not appear on the trace and a
segment of the trace line appears in the wrong
location. The problem occurs if the segment is
represented by a data point whose start time
occurs far before the start time of the trend. Also,
the ratio of trend duration to the distance from the
previous data point is less than approximately
0.0000013 (or less than a ratio of 30 seconds to
9 months). For example, the data is: 1/1/2007,
with a value of 10 and current time is 10/1/2007
0:01 with a value of 20 and the trend is defined
from 10/1/2007 0:00:45 to 10/1/2007 0:01:15. In
this case, the data values are 9 months apart and
a trend is 30 seconds in duration centering on the
second data point. In this case, the trace may not
appear on the markers. The markers are located
where the trace should be.
SCR 26635 Non-updating trend symbols do not show newly
updated points or value attributes unless the
trend is reverted. Also, updating trends, with an
End Time of * or *+#<increment>, that have the
PB2TraceCompatibility INI setting turned On do
not display new annotations of existing PI data in
the status area of the trend unless the trend is
reverted. This is due to the annotation event for
existing PI data only being available through the
archive event pipe which is not available by
default (PB2TraceCompatibility=1) . Setting the
PB2TraceCompatibility Off (0) enables the
archive event pipe and the trend then displays
new annotations.
SCR 26635 Setting the Max scale to Autorange and the Min
to a value greater than the maximum does not
invert the trend. Displaying the Trend Scale
dialog shows that the Min value is reset to
Database, not the absolute entered value.

17
Punch List Item Description
SCR 27031 Trends that have markers turned off may result in
linear regression calculations that are not as
precise as trends that have markers turned on.
Additionally, the best fit parameter, r, will be
smaller in magnitude.

 XP Themes
Punch List Item Description
SCR 23907 In Windows XP or Vista, using any Desktop
Theme other than Windows Classic, the first tab
of the VBA color palette does not render
correctly. It appears blank, yet still selects a color
if clicked on. The second tab (System Colors)
works fine. The VBA color palette appears both in
the VBA editor when changing the colors of forms
and controls as well as in PI ProcessBook when
changing colors of ActiveX control symbols in the
Properties dialog.
In order to clearly see these dialogs, you need to
disable support for Desktop Themes by setting
the EnableXPThemes key to 0 in the [Startup]
section of the ProcessBook.INI file.

 XY Plot
Punch List Item Description
SCR 26636 It is possible for the correlation coefficient to be
truncated. Once the symbol is selected the
coefficient appears correctly.
SCR 26636 Fast updating element attributes, e.g. once per
second, cause the XY Plot to show too many
points when the time span is a minute or less.
SCR 27243 After importing a display containing an XY Plot
from an SVG file, be sure to Revert the XY Plot
symbol to activate all its settings after the import.
Currently, data is retrieved before all the symbol
properties are set, so there may be unexpected
results in the symbol before a Revert action.

ProcessBook.
In order to benefit from the PI Notifications add-in delivered with this version of PI
ProcessBook, you must have PI Notifications client 1.0.777.0 or greater installed.

18
In order to benefit from the PI Notifications add-in presence functionality you must
have Office Communicator 2005 or 2007 installed on your machine. In addition,
Microsoft Outlook must also be installed in order to send e-mail from the Contacts
docking window.
PI ProcessBook 3.2 only supports version 3.2 or higher of the SVG add-in. See the
SVG add-in release notes for more information.
PI ProcessBook 3.2 only supports PI BatchView version 3.1.4 or higher.
This version of PI ProcessBook installs or upgrades Microsoft Visual Basic for
Applications (VBA) 6.5. If you already have VBA 6.5 installed on your machine, PI
ProcessBook uses the existing installation and increments the installation reference
count.
Internet Explorer (IE) 6 or higher with the latest updates must be on the client
machine to take advantage of SharePoint Server interaction with PI ProcessBook.

Notes for Administrators

The OSIsoft pre-requisite kit should be installed on a target system before silently
installing PI ProcessBook. For silent installations with Active Directory Group Policy,
please consult Support Solution 3136OSI8: “How to Deploy Products with Active
Directory Group Policy”.
To invoke a silent installation, enter the command „setup.exe –f silent.ini‟. The
silent.ini file can be customized to provide default a PI Server configuration setting as
follows:
[COMMANDLINE]
4 = /qn REBOOT=Suppress ALLUSERS=1 PI_SERVER= localhost
PI_ALIAS=localhost PI_TYPE=3 PI_PORT=5450 PI_USER=piadmin
INSTALLDIR="C:\Program Files\PIPC"

The line above is the only line that should be changed in the silent.ini file delivered
with PI ProcessBook. localhost entries for the PI SDK, component 4, should be
changed to reference the appropriate PI server.

Microsoft Windows 2000

This operating system is no longer tested. Please see Support Bulletin Operating
System Alert: Microsoft Phasing Out Microsoft Windows 2000.

Microsoft Vista

The Allow button must be clicked in order to repair or remove PI ProcessBook when
UAC is turned on.
UAC should be disabled to ensure successful deployment using silent installation.
Otherwise, elevated permission dialogs can be displayed by the operating system.

19
Shared and Administrator Installs

PI ProcessBook 3.2 does not support Administrator or Shared installation types, as

were available in versions prior to 3.0.x.

Operating Systems

The following operating system platforms (with minimum Service Pack requirements
noted, where they apply) are supported:
 Windows XP SP2
 Windows Vista
 Windows 2003 Server SP1
 Windows 2008 Server
Note that saving a file in Microsoft Vista or Windows 2008 to a restricted area, e.g.
Program Files\PIPC, results in the file being stored in the users VirtualStore folder
although PI ProcessBook continues to report that the file is saved in the restricted
area.

System Prerequisites

OSIsoft products and their installation depend on operating system components such
as Microsoft run time libraries, the Windows Installer engine, .NET Framework, and
other operating system redistributable packages. These operating system
components are available in three prerequisite setup kits. All three setup kits contain
both 32 and 64-bit redistributables.

 Online: Recommended for installation on a computer connected to the

internet. Portions of this kit connect to Microsoft sites and download Microsoft
.NET components for the operating system on which it is run.
 Standalone: Recommended for installation on a computer that cannot
connect to Microsoft downloads or if such connection is not desirable. This kit
does not connect to download sites, but is much larger.
 Legacy: For older operating systems or product distributions that do not
require the .NET Framework 3.5.

To ensure that all necessary prerequisite components are installed, OSIsoft product
setup kits check for dependent components. If a dependency is missing, the
installation will exit, and the user will need to install prerequisites.
See the Prerequisite Kits page on the OSIsoft Tech Support Web site for more
information.

Server Platforms

PI ProcessBook communicates with recent versions of PI Servers. On Windows and

UNIX, the PI Server must be at least version 3.2 Build 354 (Service Release 1).

20
High Availability features require PI Server 3.4.375 or later. PI2 Servers on
OpenVMS are not supported as of Platform Release 1 (PI ProcessBook 3.0.15.7
PR1).
Annotations are fully supported, read and write, with PI Server 3.3.362.61 and
higher.
Migration of Module Relative Displays to Element Relative Displays requires the
migration performed with PI Server 3.5 or later.
PI2 Servers on OpenVMS are not supported as of Platform Release 1 (PI
ProcessBook 3.0.15.7 PR1).

Hardware Requirements

Physical Memory: Minimum 128 MB; Recommended 512 MB. Although 128 MB
provides acceptable performance for many, increasing the available RAM improves
performance, especially when there are multiple applications running simultaneously
on the same machine.
Processor Speed: Pentium III CPU or better. A faster processor may help
performance if displays have complex calculations performed locally, but increasing
the installed RAM is more likely to help with general performance.
Hard Disk Space: 300 MB of empty space on the system drive for application files
and registry entries.

In addition to the drive space required for the application files and registry entries,
there must also be enough space available to keep a backup copy of the pisdk.msi
and ProcessBook.msi files. Even after the product is uninstalled the backup copy still
exists. This copy is deleted only when the system is rebooted.

Software Requirements

Internet Explorer 6.0 SP1 or later must be installed on the target system.

Distribution Kit Files

The following files are present on the PI ProcessBook media:

AFClient.msi

Note that the setup kit includes Microsoft Office Primary Interop Assembly (PIA) for
Office XP (Microsoft.Office.Interop.Outlook.dll).

Upgrading from a Previous Version

If you have a previous version of PI ProcessBook installed on your computer, you

should upgrade that version with the released version instead of removing it. During
the installation of PI ProcessBook, the uninstall program of the version previously
installed is automatically run, but you will not lose your settings in the .INI files.
Upgrades are supported for PI ProcessBook 3.0.x and above.
If the startup file for the current release of PI ProcessBook is PIDEMO.PIW, the
upgrade to PI ProcessBook 3.2 might not find the PIDEMO.PIW file on startup. The
reason this file might not be found is that this file has been moved to <PIPC
home>\procbook\en starting with release 3.1 of PI ProcessBook. To stop this error
from displaying when starting PI ProcessBook either specify another startup file or
update the location of the PIDEMO.PIW file to <PIPC home>\procbook\en using the
Tools | Preference menu item.
PI ProcessBook 3.2 is compatible with PI ActiveView 3.1 and 3.2.

Uninstalling PI ProcessBook

PI ProcessBook can be removed from your system by selecting it for removal in the
Add/Remove Programs utility in Control Panel for Windows XP and 2003, or the
Programs and Features Control Panel for Windows Vista and 2008 Server. You must
have administrator privileges on your machine to successfully uninstall PI
ProcessBook on Windows XP or Windows 2003 Server.
If PI ProcessBook is uninstalled on a system with PI ActiveView. The PI ActiveView
installation should be repaired to ensure proper functionality. The repair needs to be
done to support non-administrator users.

List of Files Installed During Setup

The following tables list the files installed by the PI ProcessBook setup program.
These files are installed in the same location as other PI products, usually
C:\Program Files\PIPC\Procbook. The files installed by svg.msi are listed in the
Release Notes in C:\Program Files\PIPC\Procbook\en\AddIn_SVG.htm.
