Planning is the fundamental management function, which involves deciding beforehand,

what is to be done, when is it to be done, how it is to be done and who is going to do it.

It is an intellectual process which lays down an organisation’s objectives and develops


various courses of action, by which the organisation can achieve those objectives. It chalks
out exactly, how to attain a specific goal.

Planning is nothing but thinking before the action takes place. It helps us to take a peep into
the future and decide in advance the way to deal with the situations, which we are going to
encounter in future. It involves logical thinking and rational decision making.

PLANNING AT COOPERVISION

short term and long term plans are very important as far as cooper vision india is
concerned, we break them into macro and micro view points, so the macro view point
consists of something called the 5 year strategic plan, where we look at the next 5 years on
a macro level, we look at how the market movements are gonna take place, what is gonna
happen with the competition, what sort of different fiscal measures the government is
gonna take, so all that comprises of and is built into a 5 year plan, which we then present
to the board, once thats approved, the nearest year, which is for eg, we are making a 5 year
strategic plan starting from 2020-2025, 2020 is then broken into more granular levels, more
micro levels, then we look at month to month, territory to territory, hiring man power,
price movements, marketing, all these are then thrashed out on you know a more granular
level across various depts and a short term plan is then set

•What are the major factors you take into consideration before and while making these
plans?

So a couple of things we take are the objectives of the company, there are global
objectives, regional objectives, all objectives have to be in sync with each other. We also
take into account the production capacity of the company And we also take into account
the new products which are to be launched also we take into account,like I said the
microeconomic scenario in the country, and then based on that we do resource
allocation across various countries in the world and then make long and short term plans!

•So are there any general plans in the work at cooper vision you can share with us?

Okay, what we are looking at is improving eye sight, so at cooper whatever we do everyday,
is to improve peoples vision, that’s basically our mission, so the general plans that we
have is to eradicate blindness, there is a lot of preventable blindness which is there in
india, so we conduct a lot programmes in india in various places and we ensure that
people get access to best in vision at cooper india!
