1.0 OBJECTIVE
 To display an idea of model
 Understand the method to shape a clay
 Know how to use modelling tools clay automotive.
2.0 INTRODUCTION
Clay modelling is a method to present our idea for a product, clay modelling mostly
used in automotive industry, to show the actual design of product in 3d before used in 3d
scanning for CAD model. Another reason is to save the costing for sample model.
Before a new model is launched, a long period of creating the right design takes place.
Even today, computer models are not sufficient to evaluate a design. Therefore 1:4 and then
1:1 models are built to get an impression of the final model. Clay is smoothed over the foam.
Modellers then use various tools and slicks to finalize the shape of the car, since changes are
readily possible.
3.0 METHODOLOGY

Follow the instruction from lecturer

Follow the information from technical drawing

Use clay oven to heat the clay and make it soft, paste the soft clay
onto the surface.

Use modelling tools clay automotive to remove material and giving a

clay form that is representative of the design required.

After finished the clay model, use modelling tools clay automotive to
sand the surface of clay model become tidy and clean
3.1 EQUIPMENT/APPARATUS
TOOLS USAGE
CLAY RAKE
 To remove material in an efficient manner.

DOUBLE WIRE END

 Cutting and slicing as removing amounts of
clay.

RULER
 Use to measure the length and width of objects
4.0 RESULTS AND DISCUSSIONS

4.1 Design evaluation

Figure 1.0: Baseboard drawing diagram

Based on figure 1.0 shown about the sketching diagram, this sketching diagram provided
the length and width of the baseboard product. It also provided top view, front view, and side
view, this would help the information clear.
Figure 2.0: Armature Cross Section of Perodua – Myvi.

Based on figure 2.0 shown about the sketching diagram, this sketching diagram provided
the length and width of the product. It also provided front view, and side view, this would help
the information clear and easy to done.
4.2 Process evaluation

FIGURE 1.0 : Cut the wooden plate

First , baseboard car clay must be measure the length and dimension on the drawing.
Then ,used the jigsaw to cut the plate of wood .
FIGURE 2.0: Show the final result of the baseboard

FIGURE 3.0 : Glue the support wood plate and stopper by using wood glue .
FIGURE 4.0: Cut the polystyrene

Polystyrene must be measure the length and the dimension based on drawing. After
finish the measurement, cut it by using the standing jigsaw machine.

FIGURE 5.0: Show the polystyrene that been cut

The polystyrene had been cut with 23cm x 27cm x 32cm and glue all the polystyrene
together. And then wait about 1 day for dry the glue.
FIGURE 6.0: Show the process shaping the polystyrene of car.

Cut the polystyrene and shaping it become a Perodua - Myvi car by using the file
tool. File the curve shape surface base on the drawing sketch.

FIGURE 7.0: Measuring the tyre hole.

Sketch the hole of tyre with the depth 1cm inside base on the Armature Cross
Section drawing . Cut the line by using the knife.
FIGURE 8.0: Cutting a pair of tyre on the blue foam.

Make a pair of tyres at polystyrene .First we need to measure the diameter 20cm ,
The cut it by using line as a guide and sand the surface by using sandpaper to get a
smooth .

FIGURE 9.0: Heat the clay by using oven to paste the clay over the surface.

First, heat the clay by using oven and let it become soft. Then, use the soft clay paste
on th\e surface to enhance the dimension of the clay. Paste the clay on the product layer by
layer until the thickness become minimum 2cm .
FIGURE 10.0: Use double wind and clay rake to remove, cutting and slicing the clay

Next, use double wind and clay rake to remove the extra clay and to sand the surface of the
clay make it clean, tidy and more detailing about the car modelling.
4.3 Product evaluation

5.0 Conclusions

In conclusion, clay modelling project was completely finished by the students.

With the clay modelling process, students have learned about what the industry need
for the future works. Besides that, student got the opportunity to know about how to
used the tools that need in the process of clay modelling. Students also learned to
handle the machine such as how to used the clay oven . The more important thing
making this product was need the team support with group member by refer a guideline
drawing .
