Reading about the weather
As they did almost every morning, the two elderly friends were sat slowly enjoying a steaming cup of warming coffee at a corner table. The first looked up at the rapidly darkening skies outside and quoted an old saying: “When the wind’s in the south, the rain’s in its mouth.“ For a moment, the other man said nothing, but simply continued to stare out of the window. Then, as they put on their heavy overcoats, scarves and gloves, and prepared to leave, he smiled and added: “My grandfather told me a long time ago that the ‘south wind warms the aged‘“. Stepping out of the warmth of the coffee house into the chill of an early spring morning, the first man said gruffly: “I bet he never spent his winters in Nebraska!”
