Role of Information Systems in Healthcare

MIS Project (worth 20%)

Special Semester 2, 2019/2020

15 April 2020

INSTRUCTIONS

The project is about establishing the value of information systems in the healthcare industry. Se-
lect a few distinctive health information systems (minimum 5) and describe them in quite a detail.
Selection of the systems is crucial in this assignment. Appraise the effectiveness of the systems.
Compare and contrast between these systems. Explain the objectives of the systems, who these
systems serve, how the systems work, what are the advantages and disadvantages of using such
systems, and discuss the value of these systems to healthcare consumers, healthcare professionals
and the healthcare industry in general. Also, do provide insightful recommendations to improve
the systems. Use suitable diagrams, tables, and case studies to support your elaboration. The find-
ings obtained from this study should be useful to healthcare stakeholders.

This is a collaborative team assignment. You are expected to write a report in the form of a CON-
CISE 10-page review article with ATLEAST 3000 words (excluding diagrams/tables). Typically,
a review article consists of the following sections: title, abstract, introduction, body, conclusion
and reference. You are allowed to come up with your own headings but acknowledge all refer-
ences (in alphabetical order) you cited in your report. Your article will be checked using Turnitin
to ensure its similarity score is not above 20%. You may want to refer to shorturl.at/lxJPS to seek
some ideas on writing a review article.

Submit softcopy of the review article, RACI Table, and presentation slides online via Moodle
by Tuesday, 2 June 2020. You are required to present a summary of your project during the
class. Peer Evaluation Forms should also be uploaded on Moodle (individually) on the same
day.

Task Delegation and Management

The following ways of doing assignments are not acceptable:

• Dividing the labor, having each member do a bit and then putting all the pieces together with
all the names.
• Assigning an assignment to a single team member who is solely responsible for its contents,
and taking turns doing so.

The following ways of doing assignments are acceptable:

• Dividing the labor initially, and then meeting later (i.e., physically/online) as a group to dis-
cuss, improve, and integrate the work done by each individual member.
• Meeting as a group to do the work, with equal, concurrent contributions.

RACI Table

You are required to use the Role & Responsibility Charting (RACI) to achieve effective collabora-
tion between team members in completing the assignment. Breakdown in detail the tasks involved
for this project. Example:

Member # 1 Member # 2 Member # 3 Member # 4

Task # 1 A C R I
Task # 2 I A C R
Task # 3 R I A C
Task # 4 C R I A

"A" Accountable "The buck stops here"

"R" Responsible "The doer"
"C" Consult "In the loop"
"I" Inform "Keep in the picture"

Peer Evaluation

The points for the project will be assigned according to the peer evaluation process. Each member
of a group will be evaluated by the other members in that group in terms of the criteria described
below. These peer evaluations will be the basis on which each student’s overall peer evaluation
score will be computed. This score will then be applied to the number of points the group receives
as a whole. For instance, if a team member’s overall peer evaluation score is 80%, then that person
will receive 80% of the total points awarded to that group’s project.

The ideal group member is one with the following profile: He or she attends all group meetings
punctually and in their entirety, contributes, takes initiative, carries out his/her share of project
work consistently and reliably, does not procrastinate or come up with excuses, and has the desire
and ability to learn new material required for completing the project at a high level of quality.

Peer evaluation scores should be assigned confidentially and not discussed within the group. They
are due within a day after you turn in your written project report. Those failing to turn in their
peer evaluation on time will receive a score of zero for the entire project regardless of the scores
assigned to them by their partners.
