Answer the following questions to the best of your ability.
1.) The title of this poem is If You Forget Me.
2.) It was written by Pablo Neruda. 3.) This poem is written in the 1st person point of view. 4.) The speaker of this poem is the author itself. 5.) The basic situation of the poem is that the author itself is worried if his lover would leave him and forget him. 6.) The poem’s setting is that the author is very in love with his lover telling her that if she stop loving him, he will also do the same slowly as well as if she decides to forget him. Because if she does that the author itself will freely let go of his lover and find a way to gather himself and wait for another woman that will truly love him. On the hand, if she will not let go of him, he will take care of her and love her as long as she wouldn’t leave him. 7.) The poem is not a story that makes me think that it doesn’t have any conflicts. Thus, the poem is a message for the author’s love of his life thinking of what may happen. 8.) The most imagery that is present in the poem is the organic imagery because it describes how the author’s feeling such as “I shall lift my arms and my roots will set off” means that he will let go of his lover and move on of what he is feeling. 9.) The poem is a free verse because it has no limitations it making stanzas. 10.) Since it is a free verse poem then we can say that it does not follow a regular rhyme scheme rules. 11.)Alliteration: if each day, each hour. Assonance: climbs up to your lips to seek me Onomatopoeia: ah my love, ah my own. 12.)Metaphor: to leave me at the shore -this can make me think that this is a metaphor because it has a meaning that was delivered by another word which meant to be “To leave me behind”. Personification: In me all that fire is repeated -fire means love and desire and it means that all his love will always be here if she will truly loves him. 13.) The mood of this poem is pessimistic because it worries the author of what would might happen into their relationship. 14.)In me all the fire is repeated could have a connotative meaning because fire could meant hatred or love which means that we couldn’t understand its meaning of we don’t have an analysis on it. 15.) The author’s tone is worried because he thinks of what might happen on their relationship between those sweetness and love that he brings and felt. 16.) The significance of the title is that the reader itself will directly know how it feels like when he/she reads the poem such that it also directly knows the reader what’s inside of the poem or meaning of the poem. 17.) If You Forget Me by Pablo Neruda is a reflection of a man’s love for his woman. He describes his very own love of his lover of how much she really means to him. He wants to address that if she stops loving him, he will do the same slowly as well as if she forgets him. Thus, she should remember that one she decides to leave him on that same day he will let go of her and start to move on and would wait for the love that he deserves. But if she feels that they were destined for each other, he will surely love her and he will never leave him behind. 18.) For me, the purpose of this poem is to let the readers know that there will always be love in everyone and don’t just focus on one person that you may think that there will be no other person would love you the way he/she loves you. Such that the author wants to share that letting go is the only way to move on to everything that you feel.
