server fails with error "V-79-57344-65233 - A failure occurred querying the Writer status. "

Solution
An Exchange 2007 redirect restore to Recovery Storage Group of a different Exchange 2007
server fails with the above error.
The following events are logged in the Application log on the Exchange server during the restore
process:
Event Type: Error
Event Source: MSExchangeIS
Event Category: Exchange VSS Writer
Event ID: 9717
Date: 9/9/2009
Time: 12:18:16 PM
User: N/A
Computer: ServerName
Description:Exchange VSS Writer failed with error code -2147221233 when processing the
post-restore event.
If any databases were restored, they are likely in a dirty-shutdown state.
If debugging is enabled for the remote agent on the Backup Exec server and the Exchange
server, then the remote agent debug log on the Exchange server displays the error as shown
below. For more information on how to enable debugging in Backup Exec please refer the

Workaround:
Run a redirect restore of the Exchange 2007 Information Store backup to a flat file and mount
the Exchange database manually.
