• Orientation flight with Academy Award-winning actress and star of “Open World” Brie
Larson to take place at Nellis AFB on Friday 19 January. Director Anna Boden to also fly with
Thunderbirds demonstration team i
Original plan was for Brie Larson to fly with Brig Gen Leavitt, but
aircraft scheduling may have caused the flight to be bumped to an F-16/other female officer pilot.
KEY EVENTS/UPCOMING ENGAGEMENTS:
• Disney’s Fairy Tale Weddings//Freeform//Film dates 19-20 Jan 2018//Little Rock AFB,
AR SSgt William Harkins and his fiancé were selected to have a Disney wedding in Orlando,
FL in February. His re-enlistment, on-the-job footage and home life footage was filmed at for
the series as part of the backstory. Segment to focus on AMC and LR AFB mission in
addition to the wedding.
• Ozzy and Jack’s World DeTour to film episode for third season at AMARG one day the week 29
Jan. Maj Abbott finalizing PAA with Production Company. Filming will include tour of the
AMARG and possible Spraylet or riveting activities with the talent to show the mission as well as
statics of A-10, F-16 and C-5.

Key Leader/Stakeholder meeting with Edwards AFB personnel is 18 Jan 2018. The NMUSAF
provided a bailment agreement for use of an Air Force firetruck that the production will restore for use
in the film. Expect a production assistance agreement will be accomplished following the key leader
meeting.

• "Survival in the Skies" Premiered on Smithsonian Channel. The series filmed at the NMUSAF in
2015, focusing on the development of ejection seats, parachutes and compression suits. The program
originally aired on international outlets prior to U.S. distribution. The full airing schedule is available

• Medal of Honor series // NETFLIX // release TBD// Lt Col Broshear reviewed and approved MoH
episode based on the heroism of Chief Richard Etchberger. Series outlines the events leading to the
award of the Medal of Honor from recipients of all branches. Air Force episode is a moving tribute to
the service of Chief Etchberger and upon release (date TBD) will help to bring attention to Etchberger
Foundation and continuing service of Airmen on the battlefield.

• Tim Kennedy Project//Discovery Channel//Film Jan 19-20 @ TBD

o Tim Kennedy, former Army Ranger and MMA fighter, travels the country meeting men and
women working extreme jobs to learn about what makes them tick. This segment
specifically deals with Air Force pilots and the training they go through to become the best
pilots on the planet.
o Latest News: Working with AETC to determine appropriate base (potentially Vance AFB --
unconfirmed). Will short turn next week if concurrence obtained.

• Ozzy and Jack’s World DeTour filming at AMARG one day the week of Jan 29. Maj Abbott
finalizing PAA with Production Company. Filming will include tour of the AMARG and possible

Key Leader/Stakeholder meeting with Edwards AFB was 18 Jan 2018. Prep work is scheduled to
begin Tuesday, Feb 20 on the Rosamond Lakebed. PAA in progress.
• Lance Sijan Documentary crew will be at the U.S. Air Force Academy on Monday (22 Jan) to
cover local activities honoring the 50th anniversary of Capt. Lance Sijan’s death. In coordination
with the Academy, their access is the same as local media for all events that date. The NMUSAF
is coordinating with USAFA to make Sijan archival materials (stored at the Academy) available
to media.

TOPLINE COMMENTS
● MasterChef filmed at March ARB on 14 March. Hosts Gordon Ramsay, Aaron Sanchez, and
Joe Bastianich emphasized March’s historic contributions to national defense. Contestants prepared
dishes to feed 100 AF Reserve and Air National Guard Airmen in recognition of March Field’s
100th anniversary. Set was dressed with aircraft (C-17, F-16, T-34, and 2 MQ-9s), Humvees,
various support vehicles, American flags and banners with March ARB’s 100th Anniversary logo.
o Gordon Ramsey filmed shout-outs for AFN and took photos with many of the Airmen
who participated
o Wings of Blue completed a series of great jumps for the shoot and displayed the kind of
excellence and professionalism we expect from Academy cadets!
o DoD News film crews interviewed Airmen for behind the scenes piece for AFN

o Engaging with AFSOC to discuss writer/producer trip to Hurlburt Field to receive briefings on terror
groups and AFSOC’s role in SOF ops worldwide.
● COL Kathy Graef, Special Operations Command Africa J4, will be in the local area on Friday 16 March and
will visit the SAF/PAYL offices (accompanied by her Chief) for a mission brief. The Colonel is in the area on
other business and is taking opportunity to meet with former co-worker Lt Col Broshear.
● Brig Gen Jeannie Leavitt is expected to visit SAF/PAYL 27-29 March in preparation for her next assignment as
AF Recruiting Service Commander.

in the near future on the streaming platform. Documentary was previously reviewed and notes provided
to the production company. New edit maintains the positive, uplifting story of Chief Etchberger’s
legacy. Once release is imminent, DVD copy will be sent to SAF/PAY for awareness.

• Team reviewed rough cut of Discovery Channel’s Tim Kennedy vehicle Hard to Kill, which filmed
back in January at Vance AFB. The show depicts the host enduring a series of challenges, both military-
and civilian-assisted, that help viewers understand how difficult it is to be a test pilot. Tim pulled close
to 7 Gs in a T-38 and confronted hypoxia in the altitude chamber. Notes provided to production.

Edwards AFB, Sheppard AFB, Lackland AFB as Air Force locations for a pre-release screening of the
film — Sheppard and Lackland locations cancelled due to requirements of AAFES theater procedures.
Edwards AFB able to host screening because EAFB theater operated by NEX.

● The Texas Film Commission has invited SAF/PAYL to their annual L.A.-area outreach event on 23 June.
The luncheon will bring together producers, directors, studio staff to learn about the benefits of filming in Texas.
In addition, plans for a “Texas Look Book” to be feature USAF locations is actively being discussed for
production this summer.
● Ozzy and Jack World DeTour featuring the AMARG and Davis-Monthan AFB mission (filmed Feb 18, 2018) aired

● PAYL was notified that — the Walt Disney “DisneyToons” Studio production
has been shut down. The studio is shuttering the project, along with the entire animation studio as part of
a corporate restructuring, laying off 75 staff and reassigning an unknown number of other personnel.
● Lionsgate Entertainment, the production company behind the upcoming film Escape Plan 2, selected
Edwards AFB as Air Force location for a pre-release screening of the film. Screening executed with
great success -- 110 Airmen, DoD civilians, and family members attended.

● ESPN First Take producers reached out to PAYL to explore options for 2018 Veterans Day episode (to film/air live

o Series premieres July 31st at 10 p.m. EST on Discovery. The SAF/PAYL-supported
episode, features the host, former Special Forces MSG Tim Kennedy, learning about Anti-G
Straining Maneuver (AGSM) and pulling Gs in a Vance AFB T-38 (episode also has several
other civil aviation aircraft), will be the series premiere episode.
● PAYL Team viewed the rough cut of First Man (Neil Armstrong biopic) on 19 July. Working with
producers to encourage Space-focused and Air Force-themed events in the lead up to the film’s release.
● COMIC CON 2018 “Bronies” panel featuring military members to occur on Saturday 21 July. Airmen
are advised to participate out of uniform and opinions are personal in nature/do not reflect those of the
USAF-DoD. Thoughts on "My Little Pony" ("Bronies" are adults who are big fans of the animated series)
are strictly their own.

● The Good Morning America/Marvel at the National Air and Space Museum has been moved to September
18th. Details still TBD, but event is being worked by LA/NYC teams.
● Hawaii 5-O episode #905: to be filmed at Hickam AFB 21-22 August. Episode centers on the dignified
transfer of an Airman to Hawaii by the Hawaii 5-0 agents. Through the story, the agents discover the
Airman’s backstory and patriotic reason for joining USAF. The shoot involves 7-10 USAF extras, honor
guard and C-17 aircraft. Joint Base PA assets are assisting with the production which should result in
positive joint messaging.
● Project officers will be at Luke AFB, Tuesday-Wednesday 7-8 August for a site visit and scout with
ESPN producers for First Take, a weekday morning program on ESPN. Hosts Stephen A. Smith and Max
Kellerman (with guest athletes and commentators) debate professional and college sports issues and news.
Show plans to film a military appreciation episode leading into Veteran’s Day Weekend airing live
from Luke on 9 Nov 2018. Project officers will work with base PA to incorporate key command
messaging into the event.

● The NETFLIX program “Medal Of Honor” marketing rollout to begin — meeting on 4 Sept with
Netflix marketing/PR to discuss concepts of support. SAF/PAYL team to work with Netflix to honor
CMSgt Etchberger (episode was filmed in 2017) for the full series (Fall 2018) release.

o Lockheed Martin trademark office inquired with AFSOC & PAYL about a video game released
back in May featuring an AC-130J gunship; a possible trademark violation - LM owns the
trademark to the AC-130J. In 2015, PAYL passed on supporting. AFSOC contacted PAYL to
verify non-support in order for LM to possibly pursue a cease-and-desist with Limbic.
o Update: Issue closed at PAYL level. Will interface with LM to learn more about their
trademark process in order to ensure PAYL can help avoid trademark violations.

● FOX Sports’ morning debate show Undisputed has requested official USAF support for a segment for
its Veteran’s Day episode. The segment will involve on-air personality and former USC quarterback Matt
Leinart training with Air Force members at Nellis Air Force Base. Details of support have yet to be
finalized. AFELO is also scheduled to support ESPN’s morning debate show First Take. Undisputed and
First Take are the two top morning sports shows in the nation with a combined average viewership of
~700k.
● Rising ESPN star Will Cain participated in an F-16 media flight at Luke AFB on Tuesday, 16

● Netflix to screen the new series, “Medal of Honor,” on 13 Nov 2018 at the US Navy Memorial
Theater in D.C. SAF/PAYL team provided script review, historical footage and on-site location advice
for reenactment scenes. With archival footage and commentary from historians and military leaders, the
series highlights the lives and experiences of eight courageous men who went above and beyond the call of
duty. The US Air Force MOH recipient featured is CMSgt Richard Etchberger who was posthumously
awarded the MOH for his heroics during the Vietnam War. The entire series will be on Netflix beginning
9 Nov.

● Airstrike, a Lionsgate film starring Bruce Willis, is seeking military locations for a screening for military
members. Upon reviewing the film, PAYL determined the film did not work for suggested sites---seeking
alternate venues for the production to screen the film.
● The Air Force-supported Hawaii Five-0 episode "A'ohe Kio Pohaku Nalo i Ke Alo Pali" airs Friday,
19 October at 9 PM on CBS. The episode filmed at Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam and depicted a

reverse dignified transfer of a servicemember as well as military funeral honors. The "Airmen" were
portrayed by active-duty and reserve Airmen, Soldiers, Sailors and Coast Guardsmen, as well as civilian
extras.
