1. Differentiate the Following:

a. In-group from out group (5pts)


An Out group is any group that you don’t belong to, while an in-group is a group that
you associate with yourself.

b. Nuclear Family from Extended family (5pts)


The difference between the nuclear family and the extended family is that a nuclear
family refers to a single basic family unit of parents and their children, whereas the
extended family refers to uncles, ect. Nuclear family have different disadvantages and it
is better to live in extended family.

2. Give the meaning of the following: (10pts)

a. Patrilineal Descent
Patrilineal, or agnatic, descent is established by tracing descent exclusively through
males from founding male ancestor

b. Matrilineal Descent
A matrilineal is a line of descent from a female ancestor to a descendant in which the
individuals in all intervening generations are mothers.

c. Bilateral Descent
Bilaterla Descent is a system of family lineage in which the relatives on the mothers side
and fathers side are equally important for emotional ties or for transfer of property or
wealth. It is a family arrangement where descent and inheritance are passed equally
through both parents.
