Definition
Eco-logy =========== Oikos (home) + logos (science) (latin)
• Study about the relationship between organisms and their environment (home)
• Branch of biology dealing with the relations, interactions, distributions and abundance

Aquaticus (latin) : water

Aquatic : living or growing or takes place on or in water

Ecosystem = biotic + abiotic
Biotic elements : plant, animal, bacteria, fungi, virus
Abiotic elements : water, air, minerals

The principles of ecosystem

The concept of ecosystem :

• The equilibrium (balance) of energy and matter flow (the nature)
• How living and non living affect each other in their environment
• There is NO restriction on how LARGE or SMALL the area to host as an ecosystem or on the MINIMUM or
MAXIMUM numbers of the living organism
• Can be so large even so small
• With many organism or only a few
• It can be call as biological ecosystem when contain energy supplier and user
• It is a feedback reference between population of one element to another
• Positive feedback : the increase of the population of one element for example phytoplankton increase
the population of herbivorous daphnia
• Negative feedback : the increase of planktivorous fish population reduce the population of zooplankton
Ecosystem"means a dynamic complex of plant, animal and micro-
organism communities and their non-living environment interacting
as a functional unit" (Convention on the Biological Diversity, 1992).
