From my research I learnt that I need to send some time trying
to find suitable locations as I have found that many of the
short films that I analyse used the locations to show off a
deeper understanding to the audience about the background
of the character and the socio-economic status that the
character has. I will now try and spend some time working on
the locations of my shoot as I need multiple different locations
in my short film as the character goes from one place to
another in each scene.
The research into existing artist and professionals clarified to
me what aspects of the short films that I like of theirs and what
I want to include in mine. This was like a practical example of
the codes and conventions that I had previously learnt, as they
used the same concept that I was learning about in their own
production. For example, the locations in their short films were
tactically thought through to make the overall emotion in the
scene more exaggerated. I will try and use this same or a
similar idea in my production to make my overall product more
effecting and gripping for the audience.
The research into the target audience through the use of my
survey’s allowed me to simply and clearly understand exactly
what the target audience want from my production. For
example, asking preferences like the length of my short film or
ask if they like the outline of the plot, has helped me to gather
valuable information, that I will be able to use to improve the
whole production in general. In the future I would have liked to
ask more questions through the use of Vox pops or a focus
group. However, I was unable to do this as we are currently in
lockdown due to the Coronavirus.
The researched into my platforms show that the target
audience want to see my short film on YouTube. I also asked
the reasoning behind why they chose this platform and they
suggested that it was the easiest for them to access the short
film on out of many other streaming sites. This means that I
will have to follow the guidelines that YouTube set if I want to
upload my short film on there. This caused me to change my
ideas slightly to suggest to the audience what happens at the
party but not show anything bad or graphic to stick to the
guidelines they set.
I need to start thinking about suitable locations for my short
film to be set in, as this is an important part of my short film to
make it look more professional. Other than that, I have
completed all the necessary work for this week, and I have
also met all the deadlines.
