Since the initiation of its academic sojourn in 2001, NLUJ has produced some of the finest minds
across the spectrum of legal practitioners and scholarship for the focus in the institution is not
just on impartation of legal knowledge, but on creation of a collaborative, distinctive legal
education ethos. The University’s wholehearted endeavors have been primarily focused on:
consolidation of academic learning; inculcation of the highest ethical standards in our talented
students; honouring the canonical legacy of legal systems while contributing pro actively
towards its timely transmogrification; driving academic innovation and transforming the sphere
of education for a prismatic future.
The University has the stature of a monolith in the legal education arena and attained glory by
consistently securing an eulogistic ranking in Ministry of Human Resource Development
initiated National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) for gauging academic excellence in
premier Law institutions and won the prestigious Asia’s No. 1 Brand Award 2018 and India’s
No. 1 Brand Award 2017 in quick succession.
The University premises its entire academic and research endeavor around its haloed motto
‘Knowledge is Empowerment’.The cornerstones that provide the foundation of our educational
mission are the life of the mind, participatory learning, interdisciplinary inquiry, and an
education for future leaders. Located on an aesthetically congenial residential campus in the Blue
City of India, the University offers a rigorous and interdisciplinary professional education that
blends the study of law with humanities, social sciences, and management. Students, faculty, and
staff form a small, tightly knit community devoted to the life of the intellectual inquiry and
rigour.The teaching pedagogy is innovative and prolegomenous aiming to create scholars who
can carve their own paths and build upon the instruction offered to them through a host of
resources and platforms. The institution does not seek to impose a single viewpoint or style of
thought on its students but encourages proliferation and amaranthine learning.
Our Graduates do many things in their careers, and they all take with them the analytic skills
nourished during their years at NLUJ.With an environment focused on the acquisition of broad
and basic knowledge of law, an understanding of the functioning of the legal system, and the
development of analytic abilities of the highest order; a degree at the University prepares
students for any professional role they might choose -legal practice or legal education,
entrepreneurial ventures, international private or public law practice, corporate practice,
government service, alternative dispute resolution including arbitration and mediation, or pro
bono work with non-profit organizations.
A viogorous classroom environment coupled with our thriving research centers and programs
enrich our students’ education through daily lectures, roundtable discussions, and conferences,
and also serve as blueprints for resultant scholarly output and student involvement on issues and
activities in multifarious spheres of law.
A major mission at the University has been to develop and disseminate knowledge through
scholarly research that critically analyzes the development of law and related disciplines. The
institution’s research mission is broad, encompassing a broad range of thought from the
empirical to the theoretical; from pure legal topics to far-reaching interdisciplinary inquiry; from
local, state, and national to international and comparative law. Synchronously, the faculty
members are concerned with the interaction between law and society in a myriad of ways, and
draw on economics, cultural studies, public policy, feminist theory, history, political science,
management, and other disciplines. The interdisciplinary faculty pursues innovative work that
expands the understanding of the law and influences the global community.

In furtherance of its zeal towards augmentation of scholarly research, the students and faculty of
NLUJ publish regularly in journals of national and international repute. The Corporate Law
Society and Constitutional Law Society engage in the most contemporaneous debates and brain
storming sessions in the respective spheres of Corporate Governance and Constitutional
mandate. The University also encourages quality publications and wide dissemination of ideas
through its many publications namely NLUJ Law Review, Trade Law & Development (TL&D),
Indian Journal of Arbitration Law (IJAL), Journal on Governance, Journal of Comparative
Constitutional Law & Administrative Law Quarterly’ (CALQ), Journal of Intellectual Property
Studies (JIPS) and The Indian Journal of Legal Theory (IJLT).

NLUJ has a number of strategic interdisciplinary research groups working together on major
problems affecting the country and the world. We actively encourage all of our researchers and
students to stretch their boundaries and contribute to fields like Intellectual Property, Arbitration,
Tax Law, Transactional Law, Capital Markets, Gender Studies, Legal Theory, Child Rights
Advocacy, and Competition Law. The University is also a much acclaimed member of the
BRICS Law Institute including 6 global Universities namely Pontifical Catholic University,
Brazil; University of Sao Paulo; Ural State Law University, Russia; Beijing Union University,
China; University of Pretoria, South Africa and National Law University Jodhpur as its
signatories for encouraging international legal cooperation.

Our graduates, at the crest of their skills and acumen, are sought after by globally top law firms
and have attained leadership roles at eminent social justice organizations, law firms, NGOs,
governmental entities and academic institutions.Jobs at prestigious international law firms like
Herbert Smith Freehills and Linklaters LLP have been secured by our meritorious and assiduous
scholars while others have gone on to work towards partnerships in leading national law firms.
13 students of NLUJ have won the coveted Aditya Birla scholarship till date which entitles them
to receive scholarship during their entire time span on the campus and also benefit from exposure
to the diverse pool of talent available within the Aditya Birla Group.
Regular academic events and lecture series hosted at the University are curtain raisers to diverse
spheres of thought and concern in the contemporaneous realm of Law and help students analyze
law in action. The organizational endeavor, along with spirited participation, develop the co-
curricular exposure of students and serves them in go stead in the years ahead. The year 2019
witnessed the organization of the first edition of its India Alumni Lecture Programme (IALP) by
Herbert Smith Freehills; organization of a two day Workshop on Biodiversity Lawsunder the
GOI-UNDP-GEF Global Access and Benefit Sharing (ABS) Project 2017-19; a training
programme for the Group A officers of IP & TAFS cadre for Ministry of Corporate Affairs;
organization of the first NLUJ Deal Mediation Competition; the organization of the
prestigiousTenth NLU Antitrust Law Moot Court Competition, 2019; workshop on Banking
Sector at the cross-roads of Disruption: Competition Law perspective by Centre for Competition Law and
Policy (CCLP) and the Centre for Studies in Banking and Finance (CSBF); organization of IV CARTAL
Conference on International Arbitration with the theme Navigating Murky Waters: Uncertainties in
International Arbitration with SIAC, ICC, Young ICCA, AFIA, MCIA, CiArb, VIAC, SAARC
Arbitration Council (“SARCO”), Bar Association of India and Society of Indian Law Firms joined as the
Institutional Partners of the Conference.
The University passionately adheres to the policy ofconsolidating and supplementing classroom
learning byproviding myriad pedagogical exposure to our students from multitudinous spheres
with a kaleidoscopic perspective, to help them make informed career choices. In adherence of the
same objective, the University regularly invites eminent speakers with multifarious perspectives
to share their wisdom.Prof. Swadesh Kalsi, Adjunct Professor of Law, Robert H. McKinney
School of Law, Indiana University, Indianapolis addressed the students on Prevention of
Corruption and FCPA; Prof. C. Raj Kumar, Vice Chancellor, O. P. Jindal Global University,
Sonepat addressed the students on Corruption and its Impact on Human Rights and the Rule of
Law; Ambassador Dr. V. S. Seshadri visited the University under the Ministry of External
Affairs' Distinguished Lecture Series programme 2019 and delivered a lecture on Challenges
from Evolving International Trading Arrangements; Dr. Scott Pryor, Professor of Law,
Campbell University, North Carolina, U.S.A addressed the students on Selected Issues of
Insolvency and Bankruptcy Act, 2016 and US Bankruptcy Code; Prof. Dr. Ernst Ulrich
Petersmann, Emeritus Professor of International and European Law at the European University
Institute, Italy delivered a series of lectures on the Methodology Problems in International
Trade, Investment and Health Law and Adjudication; Prof. M.L. Kumawat, Former Vice
Chancellor! Sardar Patel University of Police Security & Criminal Justice, Jodhpur delivered a
lecture on Investigation: Issues, Challenges and Way Forward; Justice Manju Goel, Former
Judge, Delhi High Courtdelivered a lecture on Importance and Relevance of Mediation for
Lawyers;Hon'ble Shri Y.K. Sinha, Central Information Commissioner, Govt. Of India and
Former Ambassador to U.K.visited the University under the Ministry of External Affairs’
Distinguished Lecture Series programme and delivered a lecture on Implications of BREXIT and
the prospects of an India-UK FTA; Justice Madan B. Lokur, Judge at Supreme Court of
Fiji,delivered a lecture on Careers in Litigation: A View from the Bench; Mr. Gary B. Born,
Partner, and Ms. Dharshini Prasad, Senior Associate, Wilmer Cutler Pickering Hale and Dorr
LLP, London, delivered a lecture on the New York Convention; Mr. Rishab Gupta, Partner,
Shardul Amarchand Mangaldas, delivered a lecture on Selection of Arbitrators in International
Investment Arbitration; Mr. Siddhant Chamola, Senior Associate, Anand and Anand, delivered a
lecture on The Practical Aspects of Intellectual Property.

Synchronous with the intellectual feast on offer are the invigorating natural environs of the
University, witha harmonious blend of aesthetic exquisiteness and efficacy, and the euphonious
blend of winged creatures providing a background symphony to ardent academic endeavors.
State of the art facilities for teaching, learning, mooting, administration, operations, sports,
cultural and a wide variety of curricular, co-curricular and extra-curricular activities are available
amidst a panoramic environment. The Halls of Learning (I & II), Administrative Block, Library
Block, Halls of Residence, Mess Block, multi facility Recreational Centre, Auditorium,
Insurance Block, Amphitheatre, Video Conferencing Lecture Theatre and Convention Centre for
students are all planned as epitomes of pragmatism. Adequate attention has also been paid to the
sartorial sense of students in envisioning the residential infrastructure of the University with
single-seater rooms offering comfort and privacy and a wide range of dining options available on
demand. The entire campus is extremely IT savvy with 24 x 7 connectivity to internet through
LAN and Wi-Fi with due attention to providing the requisite comfort for providing a world class
educational experience.

Course Structure
The University adheres to a tailor-made and comprehensive semester system with each academic
year comprising of two semesters, with 6 subjects prescribed for study in each semester.
Specialized honors courses are offered in IV and V year in Corporate Law, Trade and Investment
Law, Criminal Law, Intellectual Property Law and Constitutional Law. Besides honors courses, a
number of specialized optional courses like Health Law, Media Law, Sports Law, Entertainment
Law, Competition Law, Interface between Law and Jurisprudence etc. are offered as per
requirement and availability of expertise. Seminar courses are completed by the students and
provide the much requisite super specialization in the student’s avowed field of study.

As per CLAT 2020 rules


The University reserves the right to cancel the admission of any candidate in accordance with the
Rules. In case of admission under NRI/NRIs sponsored category, a candidate has to apply as a
NRI/NRIs sponsored candidate in the CLAT form. After publication of CLAT-2020 result,
CLAT-2020 Office will publish the merit list of NRI/NRIs sponsored candidates and from that
merit list applications shall be invited for admission which shall be made strictly on the basis of
aforesaid merit list.

One year LL.M Program in Corporate Laws and IPR Laws


NLUJ offers One-Year LLM degree programme in 2 specialized branches of Law namely
Corporate Laws and IPRLaws. The LLM programme aims at disseminating a wider knowledge
of contemporary developments in and applicability of laws in specialized scenarios and also
encourages the post-graduate students to identify and carve out au courant approaches to the
study of law.

Course Structure
The LL.M. programme is based on semester system with general and specialized courses offered
in each semester. The second semester constituting Dissertation writing sees its inception in the
first semester itself and helps the student build the citadel of his/her own specialised learning.
The programme seeks to build legal scholarship for the future in diverse arenas of law.
