11th grade Language Art Distance Learning Plans for April 27 through June 3

THE GLASS CASTLE

The book is a memoir. It’s about the author’s real life. Unlike an autobiography,
it reads more like a novel and puts you in the shoes of the author (who’s basically
the protagonist). It’s more of a subjective look at her life, not as objective
(although it could be).
The book has several themes present. Poverty, lost dreams, dysfunctional
families, growing up, the American South and the American West.
The book is divided into a few parts and without numbered/labeled chapters.
It’s an easy read, but long. Just over 10 hours. There are audiobooks on
YouTube. We have a document with the websites.
Reading this book is a great learning tool for the end of the year. It will test to
see if you’ve developed reading stamina, organizing your reading time, finding
evidence in the text to support your answer, and seeing how something literal
can also be a metaphor,
The way it works: It’s going to work somewhat similarly to what you did with THE
GREAT GATSBY.
 You read from Monday through Thursday. Each day you read for about 30
minutes.
 Then, you type the answers to study questions. Save them and submit
them under “Assignments” in Teams.
 Mr. and Ms. Garcia check them the following week as you move on with
the next set of pages in the book.
