SUMMER INTERNSHIP PROGRAMME 2020

Summer Internship is a crucial part of the MBA curriculum. It is the first hand window for
the students to experience and learn about the corporate world and a chance for the latter to
analyze and identify talent of the budding generation of future managers. As a part of the
curriculum of Master in Business Administration, students must undergo minimum 8 week’s
summer internship with the industry.

Objectives of Summer Internship

For the Company

To provide an exposure to students on real life organizational issues and to provide

an opportunity to find out solutions to those issues.

To identify talent amongst the interns and hence the prospective employees for the
future.

For the Students (Interns)

Summer Internship is a compulsory and important component of MBA evaluation

system.
To understand the organization structure and processes in the practical setting.

To utilize an opportunity to analyze real life organizational concerns and to widen

the horizon of understanding of classroom learning of concepts and theories.

To convert their performance during internship to Pre Placement Offers (PPOs).

Important for Students

1) It is the responsibility of each student to ensure that his/her Internship experience is a success.

2) The student should be proactive not only in exploring ways to contribute to the objectives and
the goals of the employer but also in exposing himself/herself to practical application of concepts
learnt in the classroom.

3) It should be recognized that an Internship is an excellent platform to learn from the corporate,
and as such the student should actively ask for additional tasks and learning opportunities.
Furthermore, as an intern, each student should make every effort to give his/her best work.

4) An Internship opportunity is a privilege, not a right.

5) The student is not only representing himself/herself but also SIBM, Pune.

6) Joining Report is very important as we require the details of your Company Guide who will be
evaluating your performance for 50 marks.

SUMMER INTERNSHIP GUIDELINES

DURATION

Minimum 56 days (8 weeks).

During internship, every student must follow the project guidelines of SIBM Pune.

EVALUATION

The Summer Internship Project carries 10 credits in your III Semester. The evaluation of the
Summer Project will be done for 500 marks. It will be done as per the following considerations:-

Parameters of Evaluation

The evaluation will be done on following parameters:

1. Rationale: Justification/need for the study

2. Objective: General and specific, stating what the project will accomplish and the value
addition to the company
3. Methodology: Covering Details on sampling plan, data collection method, data analysis,
etc.
4. Logical flow of the project.
5. Implications and value add to the organization.
6. Value addition to you as a student of Management
7. Team dynamics in the organization and your contribution to the team.
8. Findings and conclusion

EVALUATION COMPONENTS

Joining Report (10 marks)-The joining report is the first communication with the institute
after you join the company. This form must be submitted within 7 days of joining the
internship. Marks would be deducted for each day of delay. Link for submission would be
mailed to you in the second week of April 2020. The day of your joining will be considered
Day Zero. Countdown would start from the next day.

Industry/Company Analysis (40 marks)

Introduction and Review of the sector/problem

Interim Report (50 marks)

Identification of the problem (Justification/need for the study/ Literature Review)
4 to 5 pages’ minimum
(LR to contain in text Citation along with references)

Research Methodology (50 marks)

Data Collection Methods (Qualitative/Quantitative Methods covering Details on
sampling plan, data collection method, data analysis, etc.)
2 to 3 pages’ minimum

Final Project Report- format given on the next page. All students must compulsorily submit
a soft copy of the project report to your faculty mentor through an email along with 1 CD
containing the soft copy.

Viva- Would be based on summer internship project. Date would be communicated later.

Company Guide/Project Guide’s Feedback- A separate mail would be sent to your Project
Guide one month after you start your internship. Your Company Guide must fill up the form
in case of soft copy and if it’s a hard copy then they should sign it and put company’s stamp
on it. S/he could send the completed form in the form of a scanned copy.

Format of the Final Report

This should contain findings, analysis and recommendations to the industry practitioners.

The Final Project should follow the format as given below-

3. Project Completion Certificate (must contain the start and end dates of Internship)
4. Executive Summary
5. Table of Contents
6. Objective of the study

feedback form & sent it or not (a gentle reminder would do) as this involves 50 marks.

Some Important points to be noted

a. It is very important to fill the joining report within 15 days of joining your respective
company and project.
b. Please make sure all the fields are filled in the joining report.
c. Your feedback form will be sent on the basis of the company mentor details filled by you
in the Joining Report.
d. It is the prime responsibility of the student to get the feedback form filled from the
company mentor.
e. Strictly adhere to timelines of the internal and external components to be submitted to
your faculty guide in the prescribed formats given to you.
f. Those with Non-Disclosure Agreement (NDA) for your projects may not talk about
Company but cover sectorial/industry issues and give recommendations’ accordingly.
This stands mandatory for all students, however.
g. The reports SHOULD NOT BE COPIED and shall be subjected to a strict plagiarism
check. Any report which is found plagiarized shall be directly marked a ZERO for the
same.
