No thanks it's a fine car but I don't see a reason to personally own it other than
looks.

Used to want like crazy. Then my wife's dad got a 4-shit during his mid-life
crisis, now it's ruined for me :( And no, the crusty old cunt never let me drive
it, he always hated me and the marriage

Someone tell me good things about them, quick.

Always wanted one but went with a miata instead. Can't be mad about my decision.
Easy to fix and a good project car.

Don't get it then, it'll only make you look sour. Get an S2000 or a Boxster.

there was a gasoline green one i used to see local to me. The problem with BMWs and
Mercs is that some are fine and others are catastrophically bad (e.g. the E60).
most brands are at least consistently good or bad (i.e. Alfa)

brah the reason e60 is shite is because its a high performance engine and bmw was
being jewish and saving money on crucial parts. im pretty sure if e60 was made with
quality parts it would be one of the best M5s

I still love these damn things and think about buying one every year. I need to
just do it and get it out of my system. I'm sure they are nowhere as fun as they
look.

Yes Bröther, these are an addictive car. Get it out of your system! But the 4
cylinder one won't give you the high as the inline-six.

Unless you're doing highway pulls (which all z3's suck at) a 4cyl is going to be
nearly indentical in performance.
Know how I know? I've had 3 z3's. A 1.9, a 2.5, and a 3.2.
They're also not that great of sports cars. My attachment to z3's isn't "Wow such a
good car!"
They don't handle well. They're not light, They're slow, the stock trailing arms
don't have adjustment so their alignments are shit, the interior quality is
lacking, they literally all leak where the top meets the windshield. And they have
German airconditioning.
They're fine. But they're not what people seem to think they are. Ever driven an
e36? Imagine that, except with e30 rear suspension.
Sure, reliability and robustness are two good things that can be said about them.
Same goes for all having a torsen dif. But the money some of these boomers are
asking for them is just stupid. for a, at the newst, 18 year old car.
If anyone here wants one, I advise getting a 97/98 2.8L or a 99/00 M.
The "2.3" 2.5L is a TU which limits support, has tons of unnecessary emissions
shit, and has tons of model specific parts. Even a 99 2.3 E46 which has the "same
engine" isn't a drop in motor swap. It's all fucked.
Then the 00+ 2.5, 2.8, and 3.0 are M54's. Which is a shit show.

Yeah, BUT! the trick is to get one from an auction that has minor damage from the
front or back then fixing it. I snag mine for $1,600 with 57K miles on the engine.
(Because the z3 has fragile frame as said from another anon.) Also, F U C K boomer
pricing and don't fall for their scams. but comparing it to a Miata... It's
obviously the winner with the z3.

I wouldn't recommend buying a z3 with front end damage unless you're really set on
doing serious body work.
Any damage to the hood/wheel well is an instant total on a z3 because shit's such a
bitch to repair properly, and hoods, if you can find one, are expensive.
Labor + Parts is astronomical on that.
And if it's the driver's side with loom damage have fun sorting a hundred 18ga
wires and trying to repair them.
