FIRST READING

Baruch 1:15-22

15 During the Babylonian captivity, the exiles prayed:

“Justice is with the Lord, our God; and we today are
flushed with shame, we men of Judah and citizens of
Jerusalem, 16 that we, with our kings and rulers and
priests and prophets, and with our ancestors, 17 have
sinned in the Lord’s sight 18 and disobeyed him. We have
neither heeded the voice of the Lord, our God, nor
followed the precepts which the Lord set before us. 19
From the time the Lord led our ancestors out of the land
of Egypt until the present day, we have been disobedient
to the Lord, our God, and only too ready to disregard his
voice. 20 And the evils and the curse which the Lord
enjoined upon Moses, his servant, at the time he led our
ancestors forth from the land of Egypt to give us the land
flowing with milk and honey, cling to us even today. 21
For we did not heed the voice of the Lord, our God, in all
the words of the prophets whom he sent us, 22 but each
one of us went off after the devices of our own wicked
hearts, served other gods, and did evil in the sight of the
Lord, our God.”
PSALM

Psalm 79:1-2, 3-5, 8, 9

R: For the glory of your name, O Lord, deliver us.

1 O God, the nations have come into your inheritance;

they have defiled your holy temple, they have laid
Jerusalem in ruins. 2 They have given the corpses of your
servants as food to the birds of heaven, the flesh of your
faithful ones to the beasts of the earth. (R)

3 They have poured out their blood like water round

about Jerusalem, and there is no one to bury them. 4 We
have become the reproach of our neighbors, the scorn
and derision of those around us. 5 O Lord, how long? Will
you be angry forever? Will your jealousy burn like fire? (R)

8 Remember not against us the iniquities of the past;

may your compassion quickly come to us, for we are
brought very low. (R)

9 Help us, O God our savior, because of the glory of your

name; deliver us and pardon our sins for your name’s
sake. (R)
Mass Introduction
October 4, 2019
Feast of St Francis of Assisi

Today is the feast day of St. Francis of Assisi, one of the

holiest people to ever live. He kept his life simple and
avoided all worldly distractions. He believed that all he
needed to do was seek God’s will and follow it; he
believed God would look after everything else. His simple
faith remains a challenge to us. Luxury and waste—a
constant presence in our society—would have been
abhorrent to his sense of simplicity and justice. 1

In today’s Gospel, Jesus forcefully reproached the

unrepentant cities of Chorazin, Bethsaida, and
Capernaum for their sense of self-entitlement. When life
becomes easy for us, the temptation is to be complacent
and to feel entitled, even toward God. May we have a
sense of shame for our sinfulness because when we
admit who we are, that is when we truly grow.2

The Gospel has been proclaimed to us and we must

follow it. Our challenge is to focus on the things that
really matter and not allow worldly excuses to cloud our
minds and thinking. Let us be vigilant and ruthless in
rejecting temptations.3

Our mass presider is the Parish Priest of St. Mary of the

Perpetual Holy Rosary, Rev. Fr. Dionisio “Diony” Tabiliran.

Prayers of the Faithful

October 4, 2019

Priest: Let us pray to the Father that He may grant

what we truly need and guide us in the of
friendship, unity and peace. Confident in His
faithfulness and love, we pray:

Response: Lord, listen to your people.

1. That the Church may always find joy, unity and peace
in God’s presence and never lose sight of Her mission,
we pray. (R)
2. That the government leaders may be faithful to their
commitments and fulfill their duties in the spirit of
love and service, we pray. (R)
3. That the poor, the marginalized, the weak, the dying,
the lonely and the broken-hearted may find welcome
and refuge in our midst, we pray. (R)
4. That in this month of Rosary, may the Holy Spirit
inspire us to always pray and seek the guidance of
Christ in every decision that we are going to make, we
pray. (R)
5. That the life of St. Francis of Assisi may inspire us to
live simply and help those who are in need, we pray.
(R)
6. That Christ may bring to His eternal kingdom our
dearly departed especially (mention the list here), we
pray. (R)
7. That those celebrating birth anniversary and other
special occasions this October, may the good Lord
continue to bless them with good health, joy and
peace, we pray. (R)
8. In silence, we pray for our personal intentions (pause
for a while), we pray. (R)
Priest: Lord our God, we come and seek for your
presence in us always. Help us to be thankful
for your gifts and we may use them for the
building up of your kingdom. May we have
the strength to overcome all things through
Christ who lives and reigns forever and ever.

All: Amen.
GOSPEL

Luke 10:13-16

13 Jesus said to them, “Woe to you, Chorazin! Woe to

you, Bethsaida! For if the mighty deeds done in your
midst had been done in Tyre and Sidon, they would long
ago have repented, sitting in sackcloth and ashes. 14 But
it will be more tolerable for Tyre and Sidon at the
judgment than for you. 15 And as for you, Capernaum,
‘Will you be exalted to heaven? You will go down to the
netherworld.’” 16 Whoever listens to you listens to me.
Whoever rejects you rejects me. And whoever rejects me
rejects the one who sent me.”
