    The Volunteer Experience

    Sample Volunteer Position Description


    Position Title: Army Family Team Building (AFTB) Instructor

    Responsible To: AFTB Instructor Manager

    Purpose: Instruct AFTB classes

    Supervisor: AFTB Volunteer Program Manager

    Duties:

    ƒ Be available to teach Level I, II and III


    ƒ Assemble necessary course materials prior to scheduled presentation
    ƒ Attend AFTB meetings and activities
    ƒ Actively participate in the AFTB program
    ƒ Assist AFTB leadership whenever necessary to ensure program effectiveness and
    act as a spokesperson for the AFTB program
    ƒ Support the professional ethics and goals of the program
    ƒ The use of a motor vehicle, personal or government, is not required
    ƒ All FRG volunteers working with children require “line of sight” supervision at all
    activities and programs with children in attendance. At no time will a volunteer
    who has not had a completed background check be allowed to supervise children
    without a volunteer or employee that has a completed background check
    ƒ Report any safety issues that may render you or clients susceptible to injuries

    Time Required: 2-3 hours per month

    Term: One year

    Qualifications:

    ƒ Successfully complete the AFTB Instructor Course


    ƒ Ability to communicate orally and in writing
    ƒ Working knowledge of AFTB program
    ƒ Experience with other volunteer organizations and/or other family programs
    ƒ Ability to manage multiple priorities and follow through
    ƒ Ability to work well in a team environment

    Recommended Training:

    ƒ Orientation to local program


    ƒ AFTB Levels

    Benefits:

    ƒ Professional development courses will be offered on a quarterly basis


    ƒ When available, computer courses will be offered

    Evaluation:

    ƒ Informal quarterly evaluation by the Instructor Manager in accordance with


    position description
    ƒ Formal annual evaluation by the Volunteer Program Manager
