14. Functions of the AMF/Generator Controller Unit

AMF controller is a very advanced power source selector, minimizing the operational
expenditure on diesel fuel and commercial power.
AC Controller switches on AC only when it is really required mostly it manages with the
Exhaust fan if the ambient temperature is low. Switches on both ACs if DG is running and the
DG is under-loaded. This saves on the EB bill.

• Start the DG engine when the commercial power fails and the shelter needs ac power
( after battery capacity is used /shelter temp has gone up).
• Monitors the output of the alternator for stabilization of voltages and frequency.
• Transfer the load.
• Monitor the fuel level in the tank.
• Monitor the engine lube oil pressure, stop DG engine in case of fault.
• Monitor the DG set enclosure temperature.
• Monitors the starter battery health.
• Programmable crank attempts.
• Programmable start and stop pulse periods.
• Auto/semi auto mode operation.
• Stop DG incase Emergency or fire/smoke alarm.

Automatic test run

DG set test run is performed to ensure DG set healthiness, before starting a battery
discharge cycle in case of mains fail.

Automatic rest period

Generally generator used in these areas is not rated for continuous operation. The
generator run time and rest period can be programmable.

Automatic maintenance running

Sometimes the generator may not be required for weeks together. However, if the prime mover is
not run for long periods there are chances of the piston in cylinder to get stuck/sticky. Hence the
generator is run for some time whether it is required or not once in few days. This period is
programmable and the GCU takes care of these maintenance runs.

3) 4 channel DC Energy meter

a) 4 channel DC Energy meter, BTS load current and energy consumption in a day.

4) DG Fuel left estimation counter.

5) Battery AH estimation counter.

At the end of the day the CSC sends the energy consumed/run hours by each ac/dc loads to
the server. The typical ac loads are AC1, AC2 and Power Plant. Typical DC loads are BTS-1, BTS-2,
BTS-3, and BTS-4. The same are shown in the monthly reports to cross check with the actual bills
obtained from the field.

16. Future Proof features

Cell Sites Controller built with advanced 32 bit processor, having rich peripherals, fast 12bit
ADCs and DMA. Application developed in real time operating system with multitasking for ease of
firmware updates. Above 50% of code memory space left for future updates.
Optimised power consumption vs system performance meets the international green
energy regulations.

• Automatic site Software updates from server.

• Site configuration can be modified from server.
• Spare control channel outputs.
• Spare analog input channels.
• Spare PFC inputs.
• Expandable power plant / battery sensor slave modules.
• Spare communication ports (RS232-3Nos, RS485-1No, isolated optical data link-1No)
