Pirates of the Caribbean
As you can see the photo above, it is the poster of the movie “Pirates of the Caribbean”. The picture shows the characters that will be seen in the movie. The guy at the center of the picture tells that he is the main character. Appropriate colors are used to depict the main content of this movie. For the proximity, the main title and the subtitle are placed close to each other. And for the other texts are placed far from each other specifically the names of the Actors. The main text is positioned at center of the picture because it holds the main content of the movie. Name of the actors are positioned at the top while the movie credits are positioned at the bottom of the picture. It shows that the background is different from the text’s font but it also shows that the text is related to the background. Design principles and elements that are used in the picture worked well together. The Walk The image is emphasizing the tower, a venue probably that revolves around the content in which the person in the middle of the tower is walking in a piece of string balanced by a pole. It shows a very accurate alignment given that it is symmetrical, it is still very pleasing since there is an equally weighted elements. Given that the background is different from the elements, it still shows that they are harmoniously together and that the content is readable. It shows that the tower contains the same illustrated patterns until it reaches the very top of the building. Though the building occupies a lot of space but it’s still proportional with the person crossing the tower. The hierarchy shows that the person is the most important element in the image since it is at the very top and the way the person connects with the tower. The viewer can digest the relationship within the person and the building to the title which is "The Walk". It shows that there is organization and high quality of work since elements are communicated very clearly. Kita Kita Just like most movie posters, the film title was emphasized through text enlargement of the words 'Kita Kita.' Similarly, two other translations are incorporated but have lesser weights compared to the aforementioned. In terms of emphasis, the Japanese text was succeeded by the English translation. Below was the premiere night date which includes the day, time, and venue. Although written in bold letters and underlined, the text below are smaller because the title carries the most relevance. The font face of the text is appropriate for the whole poster because it gives a funny and playful vibe that goes along with the subjects and color scheme. The titles and text are in one place while the two subjects are close to each other and not on the opposite edges. This gives emphasis to the title itself where two people are seeing each other eye to eye, making it evident to the viewers. The text is left aligned while the subjects are on the right side. Also the noodle pasta graphics heading up were added which also draws the eyes upwards. Origami papers are cleverly drawn as a design related to the movie. Good repetition but with varying sizes and colors also makes the addition of origami more balanced. When it comes to contrast, the cool and warm tones in the poster complemented each other. Touches of orange and pink above and blue and violet below create a nice pastel background that suggests a light drama. Since the background is light, naturally, the dark text also complemented with it. Hannibal The first thing you would probably notice from the poster of the movie “Hannibal” is the eerie atmosphere it creates depicted from the highly contrasting colors. The utilization of a dark shadow brings out and highlights the face of a character, specifically his eye, catches the attention of any viewer. An appropriate color palette was also used to suggest the genre of this movie to be chilling and bloodcurdling. Another aspect that was emphasized is of course the title of the movie wherein the word Hannibal is enlarged to stress its relevance. As for the proximity of the texts, most of the entries are quite far apart make more empty spaces signifying the mystery behind the film. Meanwhile, the alignment of the texts is positioned on the left side of the poster where the shadow of the character is emphasizing the facial features of the character. On the other hand, the title, credits, and names of actor are on a center alignment at the bottom and top of the poster to balance and focus the texts which consequently creates an organization surrounding the subject. Lastly, all the colors of the texts are on the lighter and warmer side of the spectrum to contrast with the dark background. To summarize, all elements and design principles used in this movie poster worked very well together, incorporating all necessary aspects, to create a visual aid that would be enticing and significant for the audience. The Other Woman The poster for the film (The Other Woman) is a minimalistic style of art that uses media-style "emojis" to represent names and expressions. As it is minimalistic in nature, the act of inducing creativity brings a unique tone to the overall contrast of the picture. The plain background gives the emojis more focus and detail (as the emojis form the "knuckle" that pertains to the essence of the film). There are a lot of negative spaces as evident in the bright white color used in the background and the balance of the overall picture is asymmetrical with more emphasis given to the lower and right-hand corner. The movement consist of a right to left and downward approach which gives the viewer quite the difficulty to observe the design. There are no real pattern shown in the image thus nullifying repetition, still that doesn't mean that the image is not artistic since the image follows a minimalistic style of approach. There is harmony in color since the white background give more contrast and the multitude of emojis used are aplenty. In terms of hierarchy, the most obvious object is the title, located in the middle right on the image. Overall, the design is unorthodox as most of the principles are not added but still combines the random elements to create an appealing picture.
