Many people use distance-learning programs (study materials, post, TV, the

Internet, etc.) to study at home but some people think that it cannot bring the
same benefits of attending college or university.
To what extent do you agree or disagree?
OUTLINE:
1. Introduction: Thanks to the advancements in the field of technology over the
past decade, plenty of students are able to join distance-learning programs
rather than attending college or university. While some people believe
distant learning can replace ordinary ones, I am point of view that it cannot
bring the same benefits as attending college or university for the following
reasons.
2. Body:
a. College and university can teach essential skills
 Interaction
 Practice
b. College and university help build social rapports and pursue a good
job
 Events
 Better job opportunities
c. College and university environment can motivate students
 Encouragement from teachers
 Motivation from competing with peers
3. Conclusion: In conclusion, despite the fact that distance-learning programs
can be beneficial in some aspects, they cannot bring the same advantages as
institutions and replace conventional schools like universities or colleges.
Thanks to the advancements in the field of technology over the past decade, plenty
of students are able to join distance-learning programs rather than college or
university. While some people believe distant learning can replace ordinary ones, I
am point of view that it cannot bring the same benefits as attending college or
university for the following reasons.

First and foremost, attending university and college enables students to study not
only academic knowledge but also essential abilities. University education offers
students a chance to gain vital skills such as organizational or cognitive skills,
critical thinking, problems-solving skills by interacting with others and learn from
classmates as well as instructors, which cannot be found in distant learning. In
addition, when you join a college or university, you have more opportunities to
participate in extra-curricular activities so as to practice your skills and utilize what
you have learned in reality.

Another explanation for my point of view is it seems to be easier for students to

make friends in university environment. Educational institutes can be a good place
to build social relationships since you can meet and communicate with a variety of
people. What’s more is you can pursue a better job thanks to university
environment, which you cannot achieve via distance-learning programs. Students
at university tend to take part in activities that are immensely crucial for them to
gain necessary experience and skills so as to achieve better job opportunities after
graduation in the future such as volunteer works or community services.
Opponents of my view would argue that distant learning can create a flexible
atmosphere for students yet one obvious problems of those learning programs is
the lack of motivation for students. University students are often educated by
experienced professor who can give them advice and courage whenever they need
while learning online seems to be much more tiring and challenged. Additionally,
studying at college or university offers people a chance to compete with their peers
so as to create motivation for students to perform better.

In conclusion, despite the fact that distance-learning programs can be beneficial in

some aspects, they cannot bring the same advantages as institutions and replace
conventional schools like universities or colleges.
