WALT: use past tense irregular verbs in our writing.

1. Read and find.

Find the verbs in the past simple and write them in the boxes.

The small man had an axe in his hands. He went up to the tree and
hit it. It made a loud noise, but the axe got stuck in the tree. It
came out of the tree, but it took a lot of strength. He thought he
knew how to cut the tree down, but first he found a place to rest
in the hot sun. The animals gave him some good advice.

We can use the past simple to talk about things we did in the past. The past simple ending is –ed
for regular verbs:

play – played watch – watched want – wanted

Irregular verbs have a special form:

eat – ate write – wrote go – went
