What’s in this Shipment, on the DVD or from the Download

In the Shipment
Your shipment includes the following:
• A DVD with the installation files for Phast, DNVS License Wizard and Phast Admin Files. If
you have downloaded the release from the internet as a zip file, please treat the unzipped file
as the DVD.
• Depending on your status as a new or existing user, and your agreement concerning hardware
and software licensing, there may be a hardware security key (sometimes called dongle)
included in this shipment. If you have a USB security key you will have to attach it to the
USB port of your PC; if you have a parallel security key you will have to insert it to the
parallel port on your PC probably between the printer cable and the PC port.
If anything is missing from your package please contact your local sales and support office, the
contact details of which are shown on the DVD.

On the DVD
This section gives a brief overview of the contents of the DVD for reference. You should read the
description of the installation process in these Installation Notes before you start to install the program.
Index.htm file
This file is located at the top level of the DVD folder structure. It opens a browser (or menu) screen
which allows you to select the programs to install, and view the documentation. This is described in
more detail in the Installation Instructions.
The other main contents of the DVD are located in three folders. The folders are described below, in
alphabetical order.
Admin_Installation
The small installation in this folder will install the Admin Files in a
specific location, generally on a network drive. This sort of
configuration is relevant in a corporate environment where all Phast
and Phast users must share the same Admin Files. If a user has to
work offline these files will not be available.
Documentation
Several types of documentation are supplied and organized into
folders on the DVD. This document and all release and installation
notes are in this Documentation folder. Technical documentation is
in the Technical_Reference sub-folders.
License_Wizard
The DVD contains a set of installation files for the DNVS License
Wizard. You do not have to use these installation files if you are
installing Phast v6.7, since the License Wizard is installed as part of the Phast main installation.
However, in some situations you might want to install the License Wizard without installing Phast: if
you want to use the License Wizard to handle licensing for another DNV Software product; or if you
want to set up concurrent licensing for Phast on a network server without installing Phast itself.
Phast_Installation
For version 6.7, there is a specific setup program that will allow you to install any Phast, Phast Micro
and/or Phast FX product. This specific setup program also installs all of the supporting files (e.g. the
Phast v6.7 Installation Notes 5 What’s in the Shipment?

Admin files, License Wizard, third-party components such as Intergraph Geomedia Object 6.1.5, etc.).
You cannot install Phast Risk from this folder’s setup program.
PhastRisk_Installation
For version 6.7, there is a specific setup program that will allow you to install any Phast Risk and/or
Phast Risk Micro. The setup program also installs all of the supporting files (e.g. the Admin files,
License Wizard, third-party components such as Intergraph Geomedia Object 6.1.5 and SQL Server
Express 2010, etc.). It is possible to also install the Phast products from this Phast Risk setup, but this
is not recommended as this would install unnecessary third-party components only required by Phast
Risk which would unnecessarily consume several gigabytes of disk space.

The next section gives detailed instructions for installing the program, and you should read these
instructions before you start the installation process.

From a Download
From the DNV software download website, (http://tinyurl.com/dnvsportal) several download options
are available:
• Phast 6.7 installation: this corresponds to the folders Phast_installation, Admin_Installation
and Documentations on the DVD as described above. The file is named Phast_6_7.zip and it
must be unzipped locally prior to any installation.
• DNVS License Wizard 3.2 installation: This corresponds to the folder License_Wizard on
the DVD as described above. The file is named License_Wizard_3_2.zip and it must be
unzipped locally prior to any installation.
• Phast Risk 6.7 installation: this corresponds to the folders PhastRisk_installation,
Admin_Installation and Documentations on the DVD as described above. Only customers
with a Phast Risk micro or Phast Risk license should download and install this package. The
file is named PhastRisk_6_7.zip and it must be unzipped locally prior to any installation.
Running the installation within the unzip tool may cause installation failure.
In order to reduce the size of the download, the browser System from the download file offers a simple
interface for starting the Phast installation. As most operating system settings prevent the start of a file
when accessing a folder, the installation process is started by opening the file Phast_README.htm
placed in the folder where the downloaded Phast_6_7.zip file was unzipped.
The Phast_README.htm presents several options: read the Release Notes and the Installation Notes,
start the Admin Files Folder or Phast 6.7 installation or browse the technical documentation.
It also provides a simplified installation process.

In order to install the program, you must have administration rights for the machine. Contact your
System Administrator to check whether you have administration rights, or to obtain these rights.

Using the Download to Start the Installation

As described before, after downloading, Phast_6_7.zip, unzip it on to the local hard disk and open
Phast_README.htm using an Internet browser.

Using the DVD Browser System to Start the Installation

There is a browser system on the DVD which gives you an easy way of installing the programs and
viewing the documentation. This system will normally start running automatically when you insert the
DVD into the drive, and the main page of the browser system will appear as shown below. You use
the different tab sections to start the installation or to open documents.

Things to be aware of
• There are several issues which users and administrators should be aware of before installing
Phast:Phast and Phast 6.531 incompatibility
• Phast and Phast 6.54 compatibility
• Installation timeout
• File Permissions and User Rights
• Study Folder Files Location
• Installation while the User is not connected to the Organization Network
• Virtualisation
• USB Security Key inserted before Phast is installed
• All installation must be started from either setup.exe or index.htm
See the section Known Issues for more information on the above subjects. Before running the
installation it is recommended you read the Known Issues section.

The Phast Installation Stages

This section describes the stages in the installation if you click on the Phast 6.7 link in the installation
tab of the DVD browser system or from the Phast_READMe.htm file.

The dialogs below may look slightly different on your system depending on the operating system.

File download prompt

The link in the installation tab is connected to a
setup program for performing the installation, and
when you click on the link a dialog will appear as
shown, asking what you want to do with the script
file.
To proceed with the installation, you should click
on Run.
Phast v6.7 Installation Notes 12 Details of the Installation Process for Phast Products

Internet Explorer prompt

This will appear depending on the security level
setting.

To proceed with the installation, you should click

on Run.

Setup.exe purpose
The program setup.exe checks your system and starts to install any pre-requisites (required third-party
components) not already on the machine and finally it runs the main Phast 6.7 installation. Some pre-
requisites have specific license agreements that you will have to accept before their installation can
proceed. A failure in running setup.exe and proceeding directly to the main Phast installation will
result in an installation failure.
Your system may already have some of the third-party components installed, in this case, the related
license agreement and installation step will not be performed. Windows XP SP3 prompts for 7 license
agreements, 5 additional components and possibly 3 reboots whereas a clean Windows 7 prompts for 3
licenses and 4 additional components and no reboot.
The following steps are for a system running a clean Windows XP SP3 with no additional software
other than Microsoft XP SP3.
.NET Framework 2.0 License Agreement
The next screen contains the license agreement
from Microsoft.

You must read this and register your acceptance

of the agreement by clicking the button Accept.

The next screen contains the license agreement
from Intergraph.

You must read this and register your acceptance

of the agreement by clicking the button Accept.

Additional Components to Be Installed

Depending on your system, some components
may not be listed as they already exist and do not
need to be re-installed.

You must click on the button Install to proceed

and start the installation of all these third-party
components.
Setup.exe will start the installation of each third-party component in order. The system may prompt
you to reboot several times and several security warning message may appear on Windows Vista and
Windows 7 depending on the system security level setting. The whole process can take up to one hour
on some operating systems.
Copy installations
Setup may be fairly busy copying the installations locally before running them. If so, the dialog may
fail to refresh and display the “Copying …” message. This step may take several minutes.

User Account Control Prompt

In Windows Vista and Windows 7, any
installation step must be approved. Failure to
click Yes within 90 seconds would lead to
installation failure as describes in the section
Known Issues.

Click on Yes to continue with the installation.

Phast v6.7 Installation Notes 14 Details of the Installation Process for Phast Products

Pre-requisites installations
For all pre-requisites a similar progress bar will
be displayed. Some of them may take some
minutes to complete.
There is no need for any interaction. Clicking on
Cancel would abort and reverse the current pre-
requisite installation and the overall installation
will be aborted.
Reboot Prompt
Some installation steps force a reboot.
When the machine is running again, please log in
as the same user in order for setup to continue
automatically with the next installation step.
Click on Yes to reboot.
After all pre-requisites are installed, the main Phast installation will automatically start.
Start of the Phast Installation
First the Windows Installer copies the installation
file locally.

Welcome Dialog
The first dialog tells you that the Phast 6.7 Setup
is preparing for the installation process. It
calculates space requirements, whether the
operating system is supported and if the pre-
requisites exist; this checking may take several
seconds. The section Known Issues mentions
some of the messages raised at this stage.
When the preparation is complete, the Next >
button will become enabled, and you must click
on this to proceed to the next stage of the
installation.
Phast v6.7 Installation Notes 15 Details of the Installation Process for Phast Products

License Agreement screen

The next dialog contains the license agreement.
You must read this and register your acceptance
of the agreement by selecting the option I accept
the terms in the license agreement. You can
select and copy the text and paste it into a word-
processing program or Notepad in order to save it
into a file or print it out by click on Print if you
want a hard copy.
Once you have clicked the I accept option, the
Next > button will become enabled, and you can
proceed to the next stage.

Custom Setup dialog

The next dialog allows you to choose which set of
products and features to install, and to choose the
location for the installation.
The dialog lists all of the Phast 6.7 products, in
descending order of the range of features in each
product. If you click on a product in the list, a
menu will drop down as shown, allowing you to
change whether or not that product is installed.
You must choose the product for which you have
purchased a license, and you should not choose
any product that is higher than this in the list. The
setup treats the highest selected product as the
“main product” for the installation, and the
licensing will only run successfully if the main
product is the same for both the installation and
the license file.
However, you can select any number of lower products, and your license will run successfully with
these products. For example, if you have purchased a license for Phast, this license will also apply to
Phast Micro.
The sole effect of selecting additional products is to get shortcuts for those products installed to the
Desktop and the Start Menu. The additional products will not require additional program files to be
installed to your computer.
Option for installing Administrative Files
Below the list of products is an Administrative
File option, which covers the files that contain
system default values for parameters, materials,
and the state of new Study Folders. This is
selected for installation by default, but you should
deselect it if you are going to take the system
default values from a shared central location on
the network. This is known as a Workstation
Installation.
Note: you should only perform a Workstation Installation after the administrator has installed the
Administration Files to the network. In a later step you will have to point to the folder on that network
that contains these files, and you will not be able to complete the installation if these files are not
Phast v6.7 Installation Notes 16 Details of the Installation Process for Phast Products

present.
If you are an Administrator installing the Administrative Files to the network, then you should run the
Administrative Files installation accessible within the same Installation page from the DVD Browser
System.
Changing the Installation Location
The Change… button at the bottom right of the
dialog allows you to change the location to which
the program and administrative files will be
installed.
The button is enabled only when an enabled item is selected in the list above, but the location that you
set will be used for all selected files, i.e. you cannot set a different location for installing different files.
When you have made your selections in this screen, click on Next > to proceed to the next stage.
Default Study Folder File Location
The location is used to save study and temporary
files. (Note: The example files are installed in the
examples folder.)
The location can be changed by clicking on the
Change… button.
The section Known Issues details several
constraints regarding this location.

Click on Next > to proceed to the next stage.

For a Workstation Installation only:

Admin Folder Dialog
This dialog appears only if you deselected the
Administrative Files in the previous settings,
asthis results in Admin files not being installed on
your computer. Instead, you need to tell the Phast
installation where the Admin files are installed.
You must click on the Change… button to
browse and locate the network folder that
contains the Admin files. Your installation will be
configured to take its system values from this
location.
The dialog will not move to the next stage if the
Admin Files do not exist at that location.
Click on Next > to proceed.

Add-on Installation Dialog

If you want to use the Multi-component add-on,
and you have purchased a relevant license, you
must select the add-on in this dialog.

The Extended Explosion Modelling add-on is

only available from the Phast Risk installation.

Click on Next > to proceed.

The next dialog summarizes the installation
options so that you can review them before you
start the installation. If you want to make a
change, click on the < Back button to return to the
appropriate screen.
The summary varies depending on operating
system, its configuration and selected options.

If the settings are correct and you want to proceed

with the installation, click on Install.

Setup Status Dialog

If you click on Next > in the Summary dialog
described above, the installation will proceed, and
the next screen will describe the progress of the
different stages in the installation.
There are many stages in the installation since
many types of file are installed. The installation
may take several minutes, depending on the speed
of your machine.

User Account Control Prompt

On Windows Vista and Windows 7, any
installation step must be approved. Failure to
click Yes within 90 seconds would lead to
installation failure as described in the section
Known Issues.

For sharing and controlling your administrative files on a network, please run this small installer. This
is for installations where users share Phast and Phast Risk’s system files including materials,
parameters and new study templates, this is known as a Workstation Installation.
Workstation Installation is not a valid option for users who may work offline as these shared files will
not be available while their machine is not connected to the organization network.

Phast v6.7 Installation Notes 21 Setting up Licensing

Setting up a License for Phast 6.7

Do I Need to Request a License File from DNV Software?
You will not need to request a license file if
1. Your existing license file is valid for the mode of Phast 6.7 (Phast Micro, Phast) and the
extension (multi component) that you wish to use,
• If you have a valid FLEXlm1 license for an earlier version of a product or a valid multi
component license, then you can use your existing licenses for Phast 6.7 and you do not
have to obtain a new license file.
• For all other situations, you (or the System Administrator) must obtain a license file for
Phast 6.7, as described in the next section. You must obtain a new or additional license
file if you have never used any previous version of Phast, if you are running SAFETI NL,
or if you want to use the multi-component functionality.
or
2. The Licensing has already been set up by the System Administrator
• Some types of license2 are specific to a machine and all licensing is handled locally on
that machine. If you have arranged with DNV Software to use this type of license, you
would normally set up the licensing yourself on your machine.
• Other types of license are specific to a Security Key (sometimes called a dongle) that can
be moved between machines, or are handled by a network server and not by the individual
machines that are running Phast. For these types of license the System Administrator may
handle the process of obtaining the license file from DNV Software, and then making the
file available to users of Phast.
The process of requesting a license file is described in the next section.
If you are going to use an existing license file, you do not need to take any action to set up the licence
and can start to use Phast 6.7 immediately.
If you are going to use a file supplied by your System Administrator, you can omit the stage of
requesting a license file and proceed immediately to the final stage: running the License Wizard to
import this license file.

Request a License File

The following process is a simplified version of a normal licence setting. You do not need any specific
user rights to perform it.
Start the Command Line
There are many ways to get the command line.
Choose one of the following:
• Press both the Windows key () and the
R key at the same time

• Windows Vista and Windows 7 (File Explorer may not display the folder ProgramData):
C:\ProgramData\DNVS\Licences
• For versions of SAFETI-NL older than version 6.7, for any version of Windows (the folder
may have to be created first.)
C:\FLEXlm

Setting a Windows Service

In order to run the License Wizard and LMTools, you must have administration rights for the machine.
Contact your System Administrator to check whether you have administration rights, or to obtain these
rights.

This step is only necessary for Network2 licenses and the import steps, as described above, completed
with the error message ERROR: License service not updated.
You should not perform the following steps if your licence is a Security Key or Standalone license.

Phast v6.7 Installation Notes 28 Removing Phast

Removing Phast
Should it be necessary to un-install Phast, the un-installation must be performed in the correct order, to
avoid possible problems when re-installing Phast 6.7, or installing other versions of Phast on the same
computer.

The aim of this section is to list the steps required to perform a clean un-installation of Phast 6.7.

Steps to follow for un-installing Phast 6.7

It is strongly recommend that users seek the help of their IT administrator in performing the following
procedures since some steps may damage the user’s computer. Do not hesitate to contact DNV
Software Helpdesk for further advice.

1. In the Windows Start menu launch the Control Panel and choose Add or Remove Programs
(Windows XP) or Uninstall a program (Vista/Windows7)

2. Remove “DNV Software Phast 6.7”

3. Remove “DNVS GMO Add-in”

4. Remove “Geomedia Objects”

5. Close the Add or Remove Programs window

6. In Windows explorer find the folder “C:\Program Files\GeoMedia Objects” and delete it.

7. The following steps must be performed by a knowledgeable software professional (like an IT

engineer) as the tool can damage the machine. It is only necessary if another version of
Geomedia Object from Intergraph needs to be installed (like the one included in an old version
of Phast such as Phast 6.53.1).

a. Start the registry editor

b. Delete the following three entries in the registry:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Intergraph\Application\Geomedia Objects
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Intergraph\Applications\GeoMedia Objects_06.01
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Intergraph\GeoMedia Objects

c. In the registry editor, browse to the key:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Intergraph\Applications\DefaultJCache

If the key value is set to “GeoMedia Objects_06.01”, then delete this key

8. Optional additional un-installations. These installations should only be removed if no other

products require them since they are generally shared or required by many applications. It is
safer to keep them. You will be prompted for rebooting many times.

a. DNVS License Wizard

b. Removing “Aladdin HASP4 Install from DNVS”
c. Remove “Sentinel Protection Installer 7.5.0”, if it exists
d. Remove “Microsoft Visual C++ 2008 Redistributable”
Phast v6.7 Installation Notes 29 Knowon Issues

Known Issues
Phast and Phast 6.531 incompatibility
Phast 6.531 uses Intergraph Geomedia 4.2 which is not compatible with later versions of Phast,
including versions 6.54 and 6.7. The installation process will remove the old version. This will prevent
Phast 6.531 from working. It is suggested you remove any old versions of Phast and Phast Risk earlier
than version 6.54.

Phast and Phast Risk 6.54 and 6.6 compatibility

Phast 6.7 upgrades Intergraph Geomedia from 6.1.2 to 6.1.7. Phast and Phast Risk 6.54 and 6.6 should
benefit from the upgrade as various fixes are included in this new version.

Installation timeout
On Microsoft Vista and Windows 7, each installation step triggers a security message similar to:

If this message is not acknowledged by clicking on Yes within 90 seconds, the installation will abort
and the following message will appear:

The above picture has the details expanded (by clicking on the button Details>>) and the installer
reports that the installation was cancelled by the user as the security message was not acknowledged.
To continue click on Close.
In this case, you will have to restart the Phast installation. Then the remaining pre-requisites (required
third-party components) will be installed.
Depending on the system, there are up to 16 security messages.

File Permissions and User Rights

Phast 6.7 requires three types of permissions and rights:
Phast v6.7 Installation Notes 30 Knowon Issues

• System “administrator” rights for installing the software. This is a temporary requirement to
allow the user to install the product. The user account can be assigned to an IT person or a
normal user who is given administrator rights for the duration of the installation. When
running Phast, the user does not need any administrator rights.
• 'Full Access' to 'Authenticated Users' to the Study Folder Files Location (by default
C:\DNVUser). During the Phast 6.7 installation, the setup program sets the Study Folder Files
Location correctly. However, if your organization has some specific setting and enforced
them, the setting may be overwritten and Phast 6.7 will fail while processing a study file.
Please contact DNV software helpdesk if you experience such a problem.
• By default, the Phast Admin Files are installed in the “All Users” profile (C:\Documents and
Settings\All Users\Application Data\DNVS\PHAST_6_7_0_371\Admin\), so any user of the
PC can read and write (with an appropriate Phast’s Administrator password) those files.
However, if the files are installed separately (using the “Phast/Phast Admin Files”
installation), Phast users may be prevented from writing to them in Phast Admin mode, in this
case please contact your IT helpdesk for permission.

Installation while the User is not connected to the Organization

Network
Installation may fail if the user is working offline. In this case the installation will produce the
following error or similar message:

There are various workarounds to overcome this issue:

• Connect to your network. If you are at your office, connecting to the missing network resource
by joining your domain/network (plugging in an Ethernet cable or switching on your wireless
connection) or if you are not in the office, using a Virtual Private Network connection over the
internet will overcome the issue.
• In some cases making offline files available can overcome the issue as it simulates the
presence of the network resource when you are not connected to the network. To switch on
Offline Files capability start Windows File Explorer and choose the menu item Tools > Folder
Options > Offline Files. Check the box Enable Offline Files.

You can then proceed with the Phast installation. It is advisable to switch the unused offline
files capability off again once Phast is installed if it is not your usual practice.
Phast v6.7 Installation Notes 31 Knowon Issues

Virtualisation
There are several issues running Phast on a virtualization operating system (Citrix, VMware, Virtual
PC, XP Mode under Windows 7, etc). Phast 6.7 is not supported under any operating system
virtualization.

USB Security Key inserted before Phast is installed

If the USB Security Key, sometimes called dongle, is inserted into the USB port before Phast is
installed, this will cause the key not to be recognized. After Phast installation is completed the USB
Security Key can be inserted into the USB port and it will be automatically recognized by the system.
Failure to follow this process would require the driver currently used by the operating system to be
uninstalled. Please contact DNV Software Helpdesk for advice.

All installation must be started from either setup.exe or index.htm

Phast 6.7 depends on several third-party components. They are normally installed using the Phast 6.7
link from the install page in the DVD browser system. Running the msi file directly from the DVD
“\PhastRisk_installation\DNV Software Phast 6.7.msi” will lead to a failure. Some checks are made to
prevent this from happening:

Request a License without Administrator Rights

The Licence Wizard requires the user to have Administrator Rights on the local machine. This section
explains how to retrieve the data needed to issuing a license from the DNV Software license
administrator.
These steps use the Windows’ Command Prompt utility, if you are not familiar with the tool, please
seek for assistance from your IT Helpdesk.
Phast v6.7 Installation Notes 32 Knowon Issues

Start the Windows Command Prompt

Start the Command Prompt utility: from the

Windows’ Start menu:
• click on Run
• in the field, type cmd.exe
• click on OK

A new window with a DOS prompt will appear.

Run three commands

At the DOS prompt, type the following commands (including the double quotes)
“C:\Program Files\DNV\FLEXlm\Utils\lmhostid.exe” –ether >info1.txt
“C:\Program Files\DNV\FLEXlm\Utils\lmhostid.exe” –flexid >info2.txt
IPCONFIG /all >info3.txt
DIR info*.txt
Please note the path returned by the last command as this is the location of the text files you are
creating. Here is the typical outcome on Windows XP SP3. The command to type are in the red box
and the path in the green box, that is “C:\Documents and Settings\Astrator”
Phast v6.7 Installation Notes 33 Knowon Issues

Email the information to DNV Software License

Administror
Browse to the Directory reported as above to find
the three text files you created (info1.txt,
info2.txt, info3.txt) and email the three text files
to Software.support@dnv.com. In the email, also
include any details such as your name, the name
of the product you intend to run and its version.

This concludes the license request workaround.

Add a License File without Administrator Rights

The Licence Wizard requires the user to have Administrator Rights on the local machine. This section
explains how to add a licence file to your machine.
The workaround will only work for Security Key2 license. For Standalone2 or Floating2 licenses the
License Wizard must be used.
Using the Windows’ File Explorer, please copy the licence file in the following folder (depending on
your version of Windows):
• Windows XP:
C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\DNVS\Licences
• Windows Vista and Windows 7 (File Explorer may not display the folder ProgramData):
C:\ProgramData\DNVS\Licences
• For versions of Phast older than version 6.7, for any version of Windows (the folder may have
to be created first.)
C:\FLEXlm
This concludes the workaround for importing a license file without administrator rights.
