Question 1-
Identify the Dos and Donts of Cross Cultural communication with examples
Communication issues can take on added dimension of complexity. Every culture has its
own tacit assumptions and tendencies when it comes to face to face interactions and
trying to get across your point across effectively can sometimes be difficult. Even when a
language barrier doesn’t exist, cross cultural communication can be challenging.
Therefore some of the dos and donts of cross cultural communication are as follows:
Explain with rational the outfits required to be worn along with accessories
for Corporate Meetings in the following categories:
Blazer: A blazer isn’t always required but it can smarten up any look, making you
feel more confident throughout your pitch. You could choose a blazer in a dark
block colour with either a chequered pattern or without.
Bottoms: Smart trousers or chinos are a safe option (preferably dark or beige in
colour; don’t pull out your summer whites for a business meeting – no matter the
weather). If you’re in a startup or in the creative industry, jeans could be suitable,
provided they are dark denim with a straight cut (no skin-tight or ripped jeans).
Shoes: Chelsea boots, brogues or formal shoes are all a great option in brown,
black, leather or suede.
Accessories: A belt is a wardrobe staple and should be worn with every outfit. A
watch is also a nice touch but make sure it’s not too flashy – you don’t want to
distract your audience with an accessory.
Outerwear: If your meeting is in the colder months and you need to wrap up
warm, choose a pea coat, trench coat or a formal wool jacket.
Long-Sleeved Dress Shirt: Wear a cotton dress shirt in light blue or pastel
colours. An Oxford dress shirt is absolutely appropriate for business casual wear
and can be worn in a relaxed state by keeping the top button undone or wearing a
more casual knit tie with it. A simple white oxford shirt is the ideal shirt for
business casual wear as it can be elevated to business attire for a last minute
meeting with the addition of a tie kept in your desk drawer and a blazer thrown
over the top.
Chinos / Khakis: Chinos are appropriate in many casual work environments, but
should ideally be paired with a contrasting blazer to elevate their casual heritage.
Accessories: Accessories are a great way to distinguish yourself from the pack.
Choosing a knit tie or pocket square for your blazer pocket will make you look
very dapper. Depending on your environment, a collar pin may work as well, but
when in doubt, skip it. You could also consider a more casual wristwatch with a
more formal outfit or pairing a dress watch with a more casual outfit to add a
touch of elegance. Cufflinks are also a good way to enhance your outfit, just
like tie bars. Wrist bands are a bit too casual and when in doubt, skip them.
Top: Keep it simple with a chiffon shirt, simple jersey top, turtleneck or patterned
blouse. You could also layer with a blazer for a smarter look.
Bottoms: Suit trousers, chinos and structured wool trousers are all acceptable for
company meetings.
Skirt/Dress: A dark-coloured bold bodycon dress, pleated A-line or midi skirt are
working women’s go-to ideas for professional clothing. They are feminine options
that are suitable for the workplace.
Accessories: Light jewellery is your best bet; don’t go for any bold statement
options or big earrings – these will only distract from what you are there to do.
Formal dress code for hijab wearing girls: One must dress and act like a
professional. For a great week’s start, on Monday, wear a captivating outfit that
compromises of black flared pants. Along with this, a neutral blazer and vinyl
heels will be a great choice. For a decent look, one can wear a hijab that is one
shade lighter than your blazer and finish off the look with a simple handbag.
Clothes: In general, business casual means slacks (pants that are not jeans) and a
blouse or nice top (think no crops, t-shirts or cotton tank tops), a skirt or a dress.
Popular combinations often include a nice blouse with a blazer and black slacks,
or a 3/4 length collared blouse and a skirt or a dress that's about knee length or
longer. Some offices allow jeans and polos as part of "business casual," and others
have even looser definitions. It depends on your workplace norms.Classic
combinations that never go wrong include a dress (with or without a cardigan,
depending on the season), or black slacks with a nice, solid-coloured top.
Shoes: For borderline casual-business-casual outfits, your shoes can make a huge
difference. Pair them with a pair of patent leather high heels, suddenly you look a
lot more dressed up and looking smart casual.
Saree: The saree comes in many colors, materials and styles. You should choose
soft and neutral colors when dressing for the office. Bright colors with embroidery
can be mistaken for festive and social outfits. To make this outfit more formal,
women wear their hair in a laid back hairstyle such as a bun and avoid any kind of
accessories such as large necklaces, bungles and big earring studs. Women avoid
makeup with this look to make it as professional as possible. For the shoes, formal
sandals, pompom and heels will match this look perfectly to complete the formal
style.
Kurtis: Kurtis are the safest choice while picking a workplace outfit. You can
wear the plain and printed, long and short, fitting or lose but they will still create

that formal look. You can also easily pair these with other outfits to switch up your
formal wear.
Pants: Ethnic outfits can be styles using different style pants but they don’t all fit
in the wok environment. You should avoid wearing Leggings, jeggings, jeans and
shorts to the workplace. They are casual wear and unacceptable in the workplace.
Pair your straight kurta jacket or shirt with a pair of straight pants and some
leather shoes. For women, palazzos, culottes and cigarette pants can be matched to
create a formal wear. Palatiala pants are very popular in the workplace. They are
paired with kurti and traditional sandals to create a Patiala salwar.
Casual long sleeve tops and well-tailored bottoms along with heels or flats are the
perfect base for a modest small business casual outfit. Even sleek sneakers can
sometimes make the cut. Cardigans, sweaters, boots and jewelry in color or print
preference can be added to style one’s outfit. Unlike the other dress codes, well-
fitting jeans are appropriate for most small business and casual workplaces.
However, it is recommended to steer clear of leisure pants, including yoga pants.
