Thesis Statement: Millennials communicate the way the environment has provided
them with the most convenient way of doing it.

Millennials adapt to the technology of today’s generation. They say that the millennials
have no sense of physical interaction because most of them are isolated to technology.
Moreover, they seem to forget about talking with other people physically. However, I
must say that it’s false and is also unfair. Millennials communicate the way the
environment has provided them with the most convenient way of doing it. With the fast-
changing world comes the advancement of the various ways on how we communicate
and interact with each other. Gone are the days when communicating is just meeting
personally or talking on the telephone.

Technology has helped us in many ways; however, there would be disadvantage to it if

not properly used. Social media plays a vital role in the communication process of the
millennials. They use different platforms in order to communicate efficiently. For
example, Facebook, Twitter, Reddit, Viber, or even dating apps. These means of
communication differ much on the traditional way of communicating. Technology has
altered it in so many ways. Aside from the use of internet, millennials also have the
luxury of SMS and calls. It is highly a useful tool for them to communicate especially in
times of emergency. Although, technology may have provided such convenience for
them, we can’t avoid the fact that when it is being abused it causes many issues such
as blackmailing, cyberbullying and other forms of media-based crimes. Technology has
so many uses. It can be used through communicating, doing activities, transactions,
learning and so much more. When a person chats or sends them texts or messages, it
gives them convenience than talking in person because it may induce some time and
maybe effort in going to the place of another. But it should be remembered to use it in a
proper way.

At times like this, when we are facing a pandemic, technology is a useful tool to
continue with our daily lifestyle. It is highly useful as we go on our lives. It’s like
welcoming everyone to the new normal. With technology, we don’t have a hard time
communicating with some certain people. Even academically, we use our cellular
phones to comply activities. Thus, this only gives me more reason to use this kind of
communication that we, millennials, use nowadays.

One of the most common uses of technology is communication. As millennials converse

through technology, it has been observed that they use informal words. Due to this
convenience, some millennials shorten messages to someone which leads to
misspelling some words. Most of the technology users use words like ‘ok,’ for okay,
‘brb’ for be right back, ‘lng’ for lang and and the list goes on. This attitude has been
considered as a problem especially when one writes an academic paper. This action
affects their language competence.

Technology is a toll for us to communicate and we should use it in a most proper way.
We communicate the way as to what we are provided of. The advance technology and
the devices are the new catalyst of our communication process. Although, glitches are
still prone with this kind of means, yet, we are challenged to achieve a more advance
and a more technologically-inclined way of communication in the future.
