CHAPTER 1 - INTRODUCTION
This manual is intended to inform and educate the operator of the WINGS
software application and its purpose, limitations and capabilities. The data
included in this instructional field manual is exclusive to operating WINGS.
W.I.N.G.S. stands for Windowed Instrument Navigation Guidance System; and is a type
of software that provides an aircraft pilot real-time data on aircraft instrumentation via the
on-board avionics of their vehicle. This data is provided in a windowed format, on a second
screen via A³, otherwise called ‘Advanced Avionics Access’, a type of data sent via Redis.
FEATURES
STARTUP PROCEDURES
To begin utilising the WINGS application, the steps displayed below must be followed to
initialise and use the software. When troubleshooting any issues involving this program
said user is therefore urged to follow the steps described below first to fix any problems.
and then launch ArmA 3 ® with ArmARedisClient and WINGS activated in launcher.
03 ☑ Begin playing your WINGS supported mission, or join a WINGS Mission via a server
and ALT+TAB to the WINGS.exe, click ‘Connect’ and return to ArmA 3 ® and enjoy!

This mission contains 6 airports, subsequently named RNWY01, RNWY02, etc. They’re
the runway data used in the mission that tells WINGS what airport you plan to fly toward.

STEP 02: Double Click on any Runway Game Logic in the Editor
The above example has a specific format, and must be followed properly. Failure to use
this format may cause undesired effects, or ultimately crash the game, server, or applet.
There are a few method for incorporating this type of data into your own ArmA missions:
Select all Runway “Game Logics” in the Editor, Copy and Paste them elsewhere.
Merge your mission using the Editor, this may cause some compatibility issues.
Create your own Game Logic based on specific rules described in detail below…

REQUIRED FORMAT
Where “000.00” set a 5 digit frequency, and “ABC” set a 3 Letter Morse Code Name.

The above example demonstrates a properly configured mission. By launching your own
mission and opening the map, the user will see a list of airports they have created. It’s so
important that you properly test your map by flying from airport to airport, and taking time
to ensure your radio panel reads the proper frequencies required to travel to an airport..!
☑ All Airports are uniquely named (no 2 RNWY01’s, etc), and properly formatted.

INSTRUMENTATION SECTION I
This section discusses avionic instruments that pertain to the aircraft’s performance and
other important functions. These instruments monitor the overall performance of the given
aircraft in flight, and indicate important aspects of the current flight situation in operations.
INSTRUMENTS INCLUDE
Clock
Exhaust Gas Temperature
Fuel Flow Indicators
Fuel Quantity
Oil Pressure
Oil Temperature
Instrument Vacuum
Instrument Ammeter

The on-board clock instrument shows LOCAL TIME in the Upper Half, and
shows USER TIME in the lower half. Provides accurate visual data on time.
The fuel quantity indicator shows the vehicles’ current on-board fuel levels
in gallons. The fuel quantity indications are demonstrated in the text below:
F – Full Tank
¾ – 75% Tank
½ – 50% Tank
¼ – 25% Tank
E – Empty Tank

INSTRUMENTATION SECTION II
This section discusses avionic instruments pertaining to the physical nature of the aircraft
in relation to direction and space. These instruments provide the most crucial requirement
for flying the aircraft in a stable fashion, and indicate the most important data to the pilot.
INSTRUMENTS INCLUDE
Airspeed Indicator
Attitude Indicator
Aircraft Altimeter
Turn Co-ordinator
Horizontal Situation Indicator
Vertical Speed Indicator
Engine RPM Indicator
FM 20-18 WINGS OPERATORS MANUAL © 2018 VOLUMEINFINITE. ALL RIGHTS RESERVED.
The attitude indicator provides information on the aircraft’s current pitch, roll
gyroscopically. Pitch indicates the elevation or descent of the aircraft’s nose
toward a given direction, while roll indicates the aircrafts rotation in degrees.
INSTRUMENT: ALTIMETER
The turn co-ordinator indicates the aircraft’s ‘standard rate of turn’ shown as a
combination of both the aircraft’s roll value, and the slip / skid rate showing the
current center of gravity within the aircraft using a ball, and is affected by Yaw.
The horizontal situation indicator or HSI shows the aircraft’s rotation in relation
to the northern pole; otherwise known as a compass. Additionally, the heading
card is available to help set a visual course, and is controlled by two set knobs.
The vertical speed indicator or VSI shows the aircraft’s rate of climb, or descent
based upon static pressure that affects the internal mechanism of the instrument.
It can indicate whether the aircraft is maintaining or losing altitude while in flight.
The engine RPM indicator shows the given aircraft’s engine rotations-per-minute
as a percentage. In fixed-wing aircraft such as planes, the RPM is adjusted using
the aircraft throttle. In rotary aircraft such as helicopters, it changes automatically.
END OF SECTION II

This section discusses avionic instruments regarding the navigation systems inside of the
aircraft’s cockpit. These instruments provide vital information on the aircraft’s course, the
chosen navigation point in relation to the aircraft, and the glideslope when nearing a zone.
INSTRUMENTS INCLUDE
The in-game navigation system is available by bringing up the map, and selecting
a navigation point. Doing so populates the ‘Compact Radio Stack’ or CRS, shown.
below in the relevant section. Selecting an airport automatically updates the CRS.
The compact radio stack, or CRS provides complex radio navigation support with
instruments on-board the current aircraft. By choosing an airport, it deciphers the
many frequencies assigned to said airport, and can be controlled by inputs below:
COM1
COM2
NAV1
NAV2
ADF
DME
The user can click these buttons, and if clicked again can mute/unmute that frequency’s
Morse Code Identifier. Additionally, ArmAFP Software supports Saitek Pro Flight panels.

This section will cover a brief FAQ, or Frequently Asked Questions regarding solutions to
potential problems that arise from a misconfigured WINGS. Furthermore, there will be an
explanation of ArmAFP, an application custom built to support the WINGS software applet.

Can I use Saitek Pro Flight Series Hardware in ArmA III now?
Yes, launch ArmAFP and set up your program how you see fit.
See above, and adjust the relevant OBS Knobs using +/- until it activates.
Can I set ‘Custom Controls’ to manipulate the app from ArmA III?
In ArmA 3 ® the user has the option to set controls for WINGS via the custom controls
menu in the game. The following method is used to access this menu system and set
controls that can allow you to manipulate WINGS from ArmA 3 ® as the user sees fit:
Launch ArmA 3 ®
Click Options
Controls
Open the Drop-down Menu and select “Custom Controls”
Use CustomAction 20: Toggles HSI Lock/Unlock
Use CustomAction 19: Increase HSI Value
Use CustomAction18: Decrease HSI Value
Use CustomAction17: Increase ADF Value
Use CustomAction16: Decrease ADF Value
Use CustomAction15: Increase VOR1 Value
Use CustomAction14: Decrease VOR1 Value
Use CustomAction13: Increase VOR2 Value
Use CustomAction12: Decrease VOR2 Value
Use CustomAction11: Toggle Backlight On/Off
Use CustomAction10: Toggle Backlight Colour
By assigning these controls, the user is able to turn on/off their instrument backlight
and various other functions without having to ALT+TAB from ArmA 3 ® into WINGS
and back again. Furthermore, additional controls can be assigned to reduce a need
for using the mouse, and instead setting button controls to successfully send inputs.
