RULES BASED ON THE CONSEQUENCES

INTODUCTION

Consequentialism is defined that an action is either good or bad depending on the

consequences or the effects of the action. No actions are good or bad. The effect of these actions

to other people is what matters. Utilitarianism as a form of consequentialism agree to this term

that only the effects of the action are what is relevant. It promotes actions that maximize

happiness and the wellbeing of the majority. Consequentialism says that the right action produce

the good stuff the most in the world. Rule consequentialism however recognizes that analyzing

every effect of an individual action is time consuming and the chances of doing this is uncertain.

John Stuart Mill thought that there is more in the good for the people than pleasure and pain.

Rule consequentialism chooses rules based on the consequences that these rules have. It assess

the rightfulness of any given act, in which everyone who follows these rules would bring about

the best overall consequences. Such rule exist in the form of rule utilitarianism. Rule

utilitarianism judge morality of an individual by its actions in reference to the general moral

rules. These particular moral values are accepted as a moral code if it produce more wellbeing

than other possible rules.

BODY

The acceptance of rules is a matter of having certain desires and dispositions. An act is

morally right if and only if it is called for by these set of desires and dispositions resulting to

good effects or consequences. In general, in order to determine whether or not an act is good, it
is based on the beliefs and the point of view of the person. Citizens of the country have their own

various rights and responsibilities towards the society. Rights and duties that are very valuable

and interrelated. The human rights of a person are the certain standard of human behavior and

are regularly protected as natural and legal rights. According to [ CITATION Wha19 \l 13321 ], these

human rights are essential to all human beings, whatever their nationality, religion or status in

life. It is equally entitled to people without discrimination. Human rights exist to help people

know their roles and responsibilities to the society. It helps them be protected from abuse and

those who have power. It guarantee people the means of necessary basic need such as food and

shelter and take full advantage of all opportunities. Human rights covers a wide variety of rights

like the right to a fair trial, protection from enslavement and freedom of speech, religion,

thought, choice and belief. Without these rights, harm and chaos will arise that would lead to

poverty, abuse of power and crimes.

Right to education and freedom of speech is plausible to agree with rule

consequentialism. Education is an elemental human right and essential for all other human rights.

It is a very powerful tool for children and adults to lift themselves out from poverty. The right of

educationis given to all human beings to have access to education without any restrictions and

eliminate inequality at all levels of the educational system. According to [ CITATION Und18 \l

13321 ], right to education is legally guaranteed without discrimination. It has the obligation to

protect, respect and fulfill the rights of education. From a young age, children are often sent to

school to learn more about that they already know from home. They learn the basic subjects like

Math, Science and English. They learn how to interact with other people who are younger or

older than them. Education for a young mind is highly important because not only will it

improve the mental stability of the child but also it creates the wellbeing of a child. The concept
of education is not limited to hat is learned inside the four walls of the classroom. It expends to

our history, traditions, culture, values, and beliefs. It enhances the creativity and efficiency of the

child, helping them later to be a productive citizen of the country.

On the other hand, freedom of speech is a principle that supports the freedom of an

individual to express their opinions and ideas. The freedom to express is recognized as a human

right that everyone shall have the right to hold opinions without interference. This freedom exist

to enables us to be heard, express and say our open opinions and ideas about everything. The

importance of free speech as a basic and valuable characteristic of a free society is to allow

different opinions out in the open. Free speech is not only about the ability to speak but also the

ability to listen to others and allow other views to be heard. People go through a time where they

don’t want to be disagreed with, but being with being who disagree are those people who can

make a change. Although the freedom of speech and expression may be for everyone and can be

applied to all kinds of ideas, it includes those which are deeply offensive. There are common

limitations and boundaries to freedom of speech. It comes with responsibilities that can be

legitimately restricted. According to[ CITATION Wha17 \l 13321 ], the government have an

obligation to prohibit hate speech and incitement. Restrictions can also be justified if they protect

specific interest or the rights and reputation of others. The idea of having a offence principle is

used in the justification of speech limitations.
