Procedure:
Anticipatory Set - 3 min
Attention gainer: Stories of conflict resolution
● Share two stories of conflict from personal experience; one with a good outcome, and one
with a bad outcome which have even led to further conflict
● Ask a few students to share if they are comfortable a personal story of conflict and how it
was resolved or unresolved. Be sure to ask about their personal feelings during and after
the conflict
● Tie in how these personal feelings influence actions toward the terms of conflict
resolution and how it relates to the agreements of the end of WWI
Initial Phase - 6 min
● Give students story impression handout, assist students with any words/terms they may
be confused with in order for them to generate their version of what the article might say
● As a class, brainstorm potential connections of the terms
● Have students share ideas with each other
● Have students write their personal summary paragraph using terms
Middle Phase - 6 min
● Have students read the Treaty of Versailles article
● Have students write a second summary paragraph
● Have students compare and contrast initial and conclusive summaries
● Connect any predictions made that were similar to the Article
Concluding Phase
● Stress the importance of the how the Treaty of Versailles, peace agreements, and League
of Nations could have influenced further animosity between the conflicting nations
● Ask students if they think the terms were fair.
Follow up:
● Using the information learned from previous lessons of the learning segment students will write a
5 paragraph argumentative essay.

writing, discuss in your groups what you think these words mean and may refer to. The words
are organized in sequential order and should be used in your story the same way. Be prepared
to share your story with your group and the class. Your story should not be longer than a

Directions:
You will complete a 5-paragraph essay arguing your stance on the terms of the
Treaty of Versailles. Do you think it was fair for Germany to blamed for the whole war?
Were parts of it fair? Was the league of Nations a good idea? Whatever your stance is,
be sure to back it up with evidence found in the sources we studied in class. You are
expected to cite your evidence using in-text citations and to generate a bibliography
using at least three sources. Each paragraph should be 3-5 sentences, double spaced,
