The Time Has Come

Huey Long spent four turbulent years as governor of Louisiana.
Though a lightning rod of controversy, he instituted a vast free
textbook distribution program, a school-building program, and free
busing that improved and expanded the public education system.
Additionally, Long’s night schools taught 100,000 adults to read.
He was a tremendous public speechmaker. In urging people to
take action in a particular program, Long was quoted as saying,
“The time has come for all good men to rise above principle.”
The same is true for us. During the past month you have read
articles detailing the Oakridge Neighborhood Back 2 School
Bash, August 16. Today the time has come to rise above the
sentiment and principle of doing good and take the step of committing to put
your hands and feet into the ministry.

If your child has not already been enrolled in our Children’s
Ministry, a quick visit to the Children’s Ministry Registration
Station will provide you with temporary security tags and give us
the information we need to effectively minister to your child.
Infants & Preschool Children
Childcare and teaching are available during the 9:15 hour and 10:45 worship service in
the Nursery and Preschool Departments.
Kindergarten–4th Grade
During the 9:15 hour, K–4th graders meet in graded classroom groups for Bible
learning and fun.
K–2nd graders attend the first part of the 10:45 worship service with their families
and then are dismissed through the large black doors at the front of the auditorium
to attend their own age-appropriate children’s church, called KZ Church. Parents, we
encourage you to go with your children the first time they visit KZ Church.
3rd & 4th graders attend the worship service to listen and learn with their families.
Xtreme AM (5th & 6th Grade)
Our preteens meet in their own Xtreme spot, Room 205, at 9:15 for a time of Xtreme
learning, Xtreme prayer and Xtreme relationship-building, then join their families for
the 10:45 worship service.
Youth (Grade 7–12) & Adults
Groups for ADULTS and activities for YOUTH begin at 9:15AM. Stop by
the Welcome Center to find out about each of the groups and how to get there.
Cellular Phones & Pagers
Thank you for turning off, or muting, your cell phone, pager and other electronic
devices during this morning’s worship service.
Assistive Listening Devices
ALS devices are available for check-out at the Resource Center in the foyer.
AED (Automated External Defibrillator)/First-aid
Facilities for guests needing first aid, health counseling, and blood
pressure checks are provided by our Parish Nurses located in the west
hallway in Room 1117, Sundays, 10:30AM–Noon.

Lost items may be reported or claimed at the main office of the church during

Decker who has served in France since 2003.
This past summer she spent several weeks
involved in ministry in Sierra Leone and will
share how the Lord is leading for her future.

Eau Vive Church Project, Lille , France
September 26–October 11, 2008
Three or four more team members
are needed for this project. We worked
at this church (Eau Vive) in Sept. 2006.
We worked on the former garage of the
Post Office at that time. The garage
is finished and they are using it for
services while they continue to remodel
the main Post Office building for the sanctuary and offices.
Now they need to finish the main building and need more folks
to help. This is a great church and very hospitable. Most of the
heavy demolition and construction is done. There will be lots of
painting and other finishing work.
Debbie and Leroy Zumack are church planters at this church
and they have been supported by First Federated since 1995.
Siberia
September 6–21 or September 27–October 12
Agape Medical Mission in Russia needs labor-
ers to go to Siberia this September. There are
two different trips. Both are medical-evangelism.
However, one doesn’t have to be a medical person
to go. You can go and talk to people through
an interpreter. They are curious to know why
you came so far to do this. It leads easily into a
conversation where you can share Christ.
Another thing that non-medical people can do is fit people
with reading glasses. This can be taught in 45 minutes and they
will teach you in Russia.
Donna Stanger will be going on the first trip. Since one needs
a passport and visa to go, a decision to go must be made soon.

 MISSION ONE Reaching others for Jesus Christ
Dick & Char Griffiths
Mission Board: TEAM
Location: Indonesia/Wisconsin
What do they do? Griffiths continue as
translators stateside for the Hatam
tribe. They left Dutch New Guinea
(now Papua, Indonesia) in 1956 after
having opened the Hatam tribal ministry interior, building
an airstrip at Minyambou, reducing the language to writing
and teaching simple Bible stories to primitive people bound
in superstition. Today 15,000 Hatam are saved and national
churches have collected funds to pay for subsidizing the cost
of printing God’s Word in its entirety.
Prayer Requests:
• For the 2nd check to the complete Hatam Bible text this
month; completion of the layout in Sept. & Oct.; proofread-
ing including Rev. Simson’s check of each verse in Oct./
Nov.; final proof/filming/printing in December; binding and
delivery to Papua in Jan. ‘09.
• For Rev. Simson’s wife’s health needs; God’s hand on his
children; completion of his home in Minyambou; present
and future ministry once the Bible is dedicated.
• For revival within the Hatam church.
• For the Griffiths family.
David & Vreni
Closed Country
What do they do? David is International Research and Strategy
Associate for their mission board. His duties involve a
combination of travel, study, writing and correspondence
from home and on-the-field teaching, research, discussion
and counsel. He is responsible for missiological research and
reflection, strategic planning, teaching and writing. Vreni, a
homemaker, also serves with David in their local church.
Praises:
• The leadership transition is moving ahead in another coun-
try. David’s final trip there is planned for September.
• David’s completion of the evaluation regarding commitments
to Jesus by teenagers.
Prayer Requests:
• For their two youngest children needing to take out signifi-
cant loans for college.
• For the sale of an old office which is a financial weight.
• For travels to the US in October; ongoing smaller research
and writing projects.
• For their youngest as she starts college life.

Peggy McCracken
Mission Board: CCC, Christian Embassy
Location: Washington, D.C.
What does she do? Peggy’s ministry is evange-
lism and discipleship with women ambas-
sadors and women chiefs of staff to members
of the US Congress. She pursues avenues in
hard to reach areas of the world represented in Washington
in embassies; gets to know non-believers in casual settings
by creating social events where they feel comfortable; begins
new groups and does follow-up.
Prayer Requests:
• For some of their groups as they take a recess for July and
August.
• For personal appointments, a few Bible studies, and a leader-
ship conference this summer.
• Their office move from the 7th to the 2nd floor in the same
building.
• For opportunities to share how the Savior can calm the soul
during this volatile season.

political atmosphere. As you can imagine, people are busier,
tempers shorter, stress-levels increase, and jobs are on the
line. But, no matter who runs or wins elections, our mission
is the same.”
Tim & Iris Loomans
Mission Board: Global Recordings
Network
Location: Krasnoyarsk, Siberia
What do they do? The Loomans’
desire is to clearly make known
the truth of Jesus Christ to every
ethnic group in Siberia. As a team,
they are involved in recording messages of salvation in the
heart language of 32 ethnic groups. The recordings are dis-
tributed by partnering with Russian churches, missionaries
and others. They work to train national missionaries to serve
in Siberia and the former Soviet Union.
Praises:
• For safe return from their visa trips.
• The building project is moving ahead rapidly.
• For an order for 1,000 CDs in the Tatar language.
• For Igor’s trip to the Ukraine.
Prayer Requests:
• For more single guys to go out on recording trips.
• For a reliable secretary needed for the office to run smoothly.
• For a helper for their son’s homeschooling and other work
that needs to be done around the house.
• For God to send workers.

Serving Opportunity: Backyard Club | Aug. 11-13
The Children’s Ministry is conducting a Backyard Bible Club
Aug 11–13. Sign up in the Backdoor or see Howie or Sherri if
you can serve.
Testimony Night | August 13
We will share testimonies from M-Fuge and also have testi-
monies from those who have served elsewhere! Come hear how
God has impacted those who served in missions this summer!
PARENTS AND CHURCH MEMBERS ARE WELCOME and
there’s an ice cream social afterwards! (All parents that want to
help with serving ice cream contact Howie). Please email me
your written testimonies – I may put them in the newspaper or
create a link for them to be put on the church website. Put them
on your facebooks as blogs too – that could be a cool witness to
your friends). Also, you will have an opportunity to share your
testimonies during the 10:45 service on August 17.
Worlds Of Fun/Oceans Of Fun | August 14–15
Join us for an awesome trip to both parks! Cost $100 for both
parks. This includes a meal each day and covers parking costs,
GAS, drinks, etc. We will stay overnight at a local church. Meet
at the church at 6:30AM to carpool down to KC! We need LOTS
of adult drivers!
Prayer Walk | August 20 | 6-8PM
Head to your own school campus and spend time praying for
the upcoming school year and how God will use you to reach
your campus for Him. Prayer Guides will be available for you to
pick up in the BackDoor.
I-Cubs | August 31
Aug 31, I-Cubs against the Omaha Royals. We leave the second
that our 10:45 worship service is over and head to the 1:05PM game.
Cost is $10 per person. Also be prepared to make a QUICK stop at
McDonald’s along the way. Bring your sunscreen! PLAY BALL!

Revolve Tour | October 3–4 | Deposit Due!
Teen girls are invited to join us for this year’s Revolve Tour
(The teen version of Women of Faith). We have pre-purchased
20 tickets and are now looking for teens that would like to secure
their spot. To do so, please submit a $20 deposit (nonrefund-
able) to Pastor Howie by next Wed. Sept. 13. Total cost is $90,
including hotel, a lunch, and registration. The actual conference
is Oct. 3rd and 4t, in Minneapolis, MN. Moms, we need you as
