Pedagogy

Online The teacher will be meeting with the students synchronously, but on the
Activity computer using a program such as WebEx or Zoom. The teacher will first
cover the different types of erosion on their PowerPoint or whatever lecture
format they prefer. This would include quick descriptions and pictures of
what is happening so the student has a basic understanding of the different
erosion processes. The teacher would instruct the student to take notes on
what they were showing.
After the teacher has gone over the basic processes, they would put a link
to the gizmo into the chat box or anywhere the student could access it. The
teacher will instruct the student to click on the link and begin to review, but
to keep the teacher on so they can ask questions and guide them in their
learning. This part of the lesson is independent of sorts. The student will read
through the Gizmo including the introduction, Frost Wedging, abrasion, and
so on. After they have read the description, they will watch the simulation of
each erosion process.
This website allows the student 5 minutes of time to do the Gizmo without
interruption or an account, so after allowing the students to work for 6
minutes to compensate for discrepancies, the teacher will bring the class
back to the meeting. The teacher will have pictures of different process on
their mode of teaching (powerpoint in this case) and will flip through each
without a caption. In the chat box below, the student will answer which
erosion process each is using the information they’d learned from the
simulation.
