Essential Question:   How can our community help to support the homeless?

Three Points to Prove: #1:  The community could start donations.
#2: Be in contact with homeless shelters.
#3: Assist with health care treatment needs.

Point that this Source Proves:   # 3 Assist with health care treatment needs.

Excerpts (These should provide insight into the Point to Prove):
This website is providing information of what homeless aren’t able to be provided with and how their
lifestyle currently is, “these individuals are living on the street or in a car, staying in a shelter, or hopping
between relatives’ or friends’ homes for an indeterminate amount of time.

It was said that “without health insurance or the ability to pay out of pocket, many are left without
consistent or adequate health care, making them more likely to get sick and die than those with stable
housing.”

This plan has included information of how everyone as a community could lend a hand, “For example:
donate to local organizations in your community that provide services to the homeless, including
nonprofit safety-net clinics and homeless advocacy groups.”

Analysis (How does this source support the Point to Prove?):
This website allows us readers and helpers of the community to understand that these people
aren’t as privileged as we are. They don’t have the things that we have don’t have the opportunity to get
those chances we do. There are certain people that they have mentioned experience homelessness, such as
“military veterans, unemployed or underemployed individuals, those with substance abuse or mental
illnesses, women who have experienced domestic violence, very low-income families who earn far below
the median annual income for their area.” It was mentioned that without health insurance or any chance to
pay for things up front that is where people are left with to suffer to provide for their own care.
Evidence that was provided in the website had also stated that homeless could be a cause of us all
getting sick. With no home or proper supplies for them to care for themselves gives them a reason to go
seeking for it. At times when they touch things that we later may touch that object becomes unsanitary
due to the care they aren’t able to receive. Some “health conditions such as diabetes and high blood
pressure occur with similar prevalence in homeless versus non-homeless individuals.” These conditions
aren’t controlled well for those that aren’t in a steady household.
We all know the results of what could happen when there isn’t proper care for us. Many of us see
this happening around our community as well. It isn’t a pleasant site to see. They have also mentioned
that some people that “experience homelessness or extreme poverty, you might not feel welcome.” They
have done a survey and it resulted to many people feeling discriminated because of their lifestyle. It
makes them rethink of even turning to people for help because they don’t feel like they belong there.
There is a bunch of things we could all do as a community and it’s the smallest things that matters. We
are all human beings, those who aren’t as privileged shouldn’t be treated any differently from those who
are privileged.
